I'm wanting to port my XNA Beta 2 games across to the 360 but before I start I have a couple of questions about the screen resolution.

I'm wanting to be able to support standard def 4:3 and 16:9 as well as high def 4:3 and 16:9. Now, for the aspect ratio, I'm assuming I can just create a project matrix with the correct ratio, like:

Matrix.CreatePerspectiveFieldOfView(MathHelper.ToRadians(45.0f), 16.0f / 9.0f, 1.0f, 10000.0f);

...for a 16:9 ratio. But, what resolution would I have to set the screen to for the standard def and high def I'm assuming that it defaults to a standard def resolution but I'm not sure what or even how to go about changing it.

Please help.

480i (non-hidef) = 640x480

720i/720p = 1280x720

1080i/1080p = 1920x1080

I've got some code that queries the display adapter looking for the highest supported mode. Works find on my PC, but I haven't tested it on the XBox yet. After I do, I can post it up if anyone is interested.

Yeah, I'd be iterested =o)

So, if I were to set the res to 640x480 and then set the aspect ratio in the projection matrix to 16:9 I'd get standard def, widescreen

What does it default to Also, how can I actually change the screen dimensions They seem to be set by default.

Actually, thinking about it. The aspect ratio should always equal the dimensions of the screen so it seems that 640x480, 1280x720 and 1920x1080 are all 4:3. What are the correct resolutions for 16:9

1280x720 and 1920x1080 are widescreen 16:9.

1280x720 and 1920x1080 are 16:9 resolutions.

Surely they're the high def 16:9 resolutions What about standard def
