    - Real API functions in a DX world If anyone here know about the programming language GML you would know that Game Maker uses DirectX. The problem is whenever one add a real API (button for example) into it, it will get an ugly border around or if it is an edit it will get artifacts. One solution could be to create a static child window beneath to solve it. But I was thinking whether there are other ways.     - Rants on XNA 1.0 This is my first reaction when I installed and tried the 1.0 of XNA. To summarize my feeling: it's still 95% for XBox and no nearer to replace the old MDX 1.0. So I decided not to migrate from MDX to XNA though I want to do that very much. I feel like MDX 2 more; amen to MDX 2. The hardest issue for me is the content pipeline, which is very necessary, but the workflow is fixed and it assumes the contents are only built before the program runs. The helper functions wrapping D3DX can only be used with types in the content pipeline. I have to utilize the full content pipeline just for generating something dynamically, of course with significant performance cost. Or I have to write those D3DX utilities my self. Currently I don't have a good idea on this. The other annoying thing is about type names. When using XNA with WinForms, the Point, Rectangle, Color, etc. are all need to be fully qualified in many source files. Those clones in XNA are in the same namespace with other XNA types. I don't want to import those types but I have no way to avoid them. Another is about types in Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Game.dll. They're mixed with basic types in the Microsoft.Xna.Framework namespace. So if only one source file used any of those game types, that assembly has to be referenced, thus those type names are occupied and I have to avoid those names. Why not let them in their own Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Game namespace Well, since it already released, it will mostly stay like this.     - 2D Collision to Windows boundaries... Hi there, I'm a beginner with XNA, and for the sake of personal knowledge i'm trying to create a simple breakout clone (loving the cliche of this). Anyway, this far i'm going ok, but now I have a problem with collision detection between the ball and the windows boundaries. I also know what is causing this problem, but I dont know how to solve it. The code has been set up that the ball is stick to the paddle untill you release the ball by hitting space. At this point the ball will move by a pre-set speed (given in the class of the ball) along the Y axis. This works without problems. However, the direction the ball is moving on on the X axis is set pick a random direction. This ransomness is causing the problem with the collisions. When the ball collide with the top or bottom of the screen (the Y axis) everything works perfect and the ball, will bounce back. But when the ball hits one of the side walls (the X axis) the ball sticks against the wall and wont move anymore. The problem here is the randomness given to the X axis of the bal. If I start the game without thise random code running the ball will bounce against the walls with no problem. But doing this means the ball will not get a random direction at the point it is realeased from the playerpaddle, so the whole point of the game will be gone.     - HOWTO: The fastest way to update shader parameters? Good day all, I'm new to HLSL/XNA and C#, and here's a rather silly question for y'all. " Hang on a sec, that's exactly what I'm doing!! Ever since then, the more new parameters are added to my shader code the more worried I am.     - Post-Processing Woes I've started experimenting with full-screen post-processing after using a tutorial on Ramblings of A Hazy Mind (tutorial number 8 I believe), that lets you modify many things using pixel shaders, unfortunately I'm unable to find good examples of post-processing effects that will work with this implementation. I'm not really looking for a different way of doing this, rather I'd like to port an effect I've had trouble with into something that will work with Hazy Mind's system. The main one I've had a problem with is a Blur/Glow effect that I found on the XNA5D site, unfortunately it also implements a vertex shader which I have no knowledge of (I know very little about pixel shaders also) so I don't know how to get it to work without involving 3D models, here is the code (probably going to have some smiley faces or something). For those who don't know, Hazy Mind's post-processing system only uses pixel shaders (as far as I know).     - Model scaling without effecting the real coords Hi, when I load my models they don't always have the correct size in relation to each other, so i want to scale them. When i multiply the world matrix of the basic-effect that renders the model with a Matrix.CreateScale(0.2f) matrix i get the visual correct result. But the coords are scaled too. So when i want to set the position of my model i need to multiply the x, y and z coords by 5 to get the correct values for the model world matrix.     - Resource management Hi, I was wondering if loadGraphicsContent can ever be called with loadAllContent=true except the very first time. The reason it's an important issue is that if it can, references can go dead, ex. if I load effect in Game1 and give it to object X, then Game1.loadGraphicsContent(true) is called and I have to reload effect, X's reference to effect is no longer any good. This can be solved with some simple indirection, but it would be nicer not to do that if it isn't necessary. I'm also curious if it's ever necessary to explicitly Dispose() a resource, such as a VertexBuffer, if it is created with ResourceManagementMode.Automatic, or if everything will be taken care of when it is garbage collected. Part of my concern is that I had a huge problem with MDX9 where such objects were not getting garbage collected because they had captured some device events which kept them live even after my code no longer had any direct reference to them.     - Future of DirectX I'm starting to get worried about DirectX, because mostly it becomes deprecated, first there was DirectPlay, and now it is the same thing for DirectInput and DirectSound, I've recently read that they are becoming deprecated in favor of XACT and XInput. Could you tell me why is this happening What will become of DirectX in the future Will be there only Direct3D, or will it disappear either I'd like to give you my opinion that deprecating good API's like DirectInput and DirectSound is a bad idea. Take a look at XInput- it allows only xbox controllers, and what about mice, keyboards, or other joypads And mostly I'm concerned about DirectSound, In Vista there is no hardware support for it, does that mean I have to stop working with DirectSound and go to XACT Why are you cutting DirectSound to something that isn't finished yet I mean XACT doesn't have the main feature that most of programmers use - Custom sound buffers, with the ability to lock, read and write your own data to it. It's just like you were forcing us, to abandon "c++" and move to some kind of "visual basic". I don't like it, XACT allows only wav and adpcm files, which is not enough. Buffer locking is needed for many aplications, like the ones using their own compression formats, or voice synthesizers, or the ones that generate sound out of mathematical functions. How do I do that in XACT I can't! So I'm asking why are you deprecating the API's that can do it Please leave DirectX alone, don't deprecate it, don't replace it, don't kill it. DirectX gives you very big control of the programming aspects. If DirectSound is too old for Vista, then either update DirectSound, or deprecate it to something that has the key features like DirectSound.     - Ortho-picking How is picking in an orthogonal projection supposed to be done The pick example from the sdk works only in PerspectiveFov projection, but not in Ortho projection.     - Collision Detection With Bezier Curves Hi, I'm currently making a small 2D game in XNA Game Studio Express. It involves a player moving around a terrain and being able to collide with it. Nearly all the graphics and settings in my game are user generated so this allows for everything to be quite customisable. For collision detection the user specifies paths made of Bezier curves which are stored in a file. The game reads this file and stores a number of points on the curves in an array. The player is also made of Bezier curves that are converted into points: This shows how I want collision detection to happen; if any of the lines that make up the player intersect with any of the lines that make up the terrain, then a collision has occurred. Once a collision has occurred two things need to be done: Move the player the shortest distance possible so they are no longer intersecting the terrain Reflect the velocity of the player off the line of the terrain so they appear to bounce off the terrain. Bouncing the player should be straightforward but I'm having trouble with moving the player out of the terrain. This is basically what I want to happen: It seems simple enough to just write: playerPosition += intersectionPoint - new Vector2(x4, y4) Which would work for the visual example that I gave but what if points 1 and 2 swap places or points 3 and 4 swap What if the player is colliding with the ceiling not the ground There are many different ways in which these 4 points can intersect.     - How to publish for Computers without XNA? Hello! I've just written my first programme with XNA, and now I want to show it to my friends. When I klick on "publish" ("veroffentlichen" in the German version), I choose the saving folder, then CD/DVD, then "no Updates". The publishing properties are the following: "The application is offline available" "Application Files -> include all files, also the hidden" "required components ->.NET Framework 2.0 and Windows Installer 3.1 are required" "Updates: off" But when my friend tries to install the programm, an error occurs with the message: "This application can't be started or installed.     - XNA project hard freezes XBOX360 A game I have been developing works perfectly fine on windows, however, causes my xbox to hard freeze (all controls stop responding and the device can only be shut off from the power button on the xbox itself), which in turn detaches the debugger. This seems to happen after an arbitrary amount of time, and thus leads me to perhaps memory issues. I haven't been able to find anyone else with a similar problem, but if anyone has experienced similar problems, I'd be interested in knowing how you went about debugging and or solving this issue because I'm having lots of difficulty isolating the problem to any one block of code. At any rate, it seems odd that my managed code (no shaders either) would cause the entire xbox to freeze considering its running in a sandbox.     - Tiling textures I have a .x mesh exported from 3ds (3D studio max). In 3ds, the texture for my floor is tiled, and looks nice and detailed. However, when I load this mesh into my DirectX application, the texture is tiled, but is stretched to the size of the face... so now it looks like gravel instead of carpet! Can DirectX control how textures are tiled I cant seem to find anything. So far I have turned on Anisotropic texture filter which has made a slight improvement... but the tiles are still streched!     - PC project -> 360 (including Game Library) Hello, I just wrote a little puzzle game (Windos Game Project) and now I want to build the 360 version of it, but I have a little problem (probably PEBKAC *g*) I wrote a content-processor for instanced rendering (overriding ModelProcessor) and implemented a new ContentItem called 'Font'. It reads the *.fnt files from AngelCode Bitmapfont Converter. Because I want to reuse this, I put it into a "Windows Game Library" and everything works fine.. Now, if I try to put my custom content stuff into a XBox 360 Game Lib, the build process told me, that there exists no "TargetPlatform" enum - which is needed for the serialization methods. After thinking about it, I realize, that I wouldn't make sense that the XBox Game lib should know anything about the ContentWriter, it's for the build process on the PC (am I right ). Any suggestions how I should re-arrange the whole stuff to make it work 2 separate libs (one with the actual Font : ContentItem used, one for the actual Importer ).     - Multithreading in XNA Is there any way to implememt multi-threaded programming into a XNA based game As multi-core processors become more prevalent, the ability to take advantage of that would be rather useful. Does XNA implement multi-threaded design behind the scenes, a.k.a. in the fundamental way the Game class works I was thinking that for my program, I have multiple GameComponent classes for which the update functions could be run in parrallel. Is there anyway to specify that I've looked up information on righting multi-threaded applications in C#, but I'm not sure if those approaches are compatible with the XNA game loop design (in fact I imagine they would not be). Do you know why download managers won't seem to work with the DirectX SDK Is this the download, or probably the manager

if you want to use download manager try this FlashGet at http://www.flashget.com/en/download.htm its free...

u can contiune u download after u stop it/ disconnected...
