Hello

I've downloaded the latest version of XNA: GSE, signed up to Creators Club, downloaded the launcher, created a key and entered it into GSE.  The 360 is sitting there waiting for a PC connection but the deployment just times out.

I've checked the subnet and they're both 255,255,255,0.
It doesn't work whether it's wireless or wired.
I can't ping it from the PC, it just times out.
Got another pal to try pinging their 360 from their PC and they get a similar time out.

I've also made sure all the required ports are open, I think.  I'm not sure, we have a Belkin router and I've added the ports the docs say to add but I can't test whether they are actually open or not.

Looking in the FAQ it says if you have trouble deploying make sure you can ping it, unfortunately it doesn't say what to do if you can't ping it.

Any ideas

Thanks

Scott

Very odd, I had the same problem, but I generated a new key and it worked, I don't know why that worked but I assume you have tried that already

Hi wahey.

I was incorrect in my first posting. The diagnostics instructions are incorrect.  It isn't possible to ping the Xbox 360 from the PC in any state.

I hadn't tried that so gave it a go. No joy. Connection still just times out.
Don't know what else to try. It's a Belkin router and the virtual server section only lets me add ports to 1 ip address. So say I add 1000 I can assign it to 192.168.2.8 (the xbox360) or 192.168.2.13 (my PC) but not both. I don't know if it's that or not but I'd have thought ping would work fine (and that still times out).
Thanks!
Scott

Hi Albert
Yeah, it's waiting for the PC connection while I'm trying but still times out. Sometimes I've tried while the pad has powered down and the screen has darkened - should that be ok still
The 360 ip address is 192.168.2.8 and my PC 192.168.2.13.
Thanks
Scott

The screensaver and controller shutting off won't make a difference.

I know you've heard this already, but the one thing you want to be super-sure about is the connection key. Make certain that you've transcribed it exactly onto your computer. Watch out for letters and numbers that look similar, like I and 1, or S and 5, especially if you have a non-HD resolution. (We did make sure that 0 and O don't make any difference, though, since they confused everyone!)

After transcribing the key, be sure to accept it on the Xbox 360, and set the new key to be the default on the PC side.

As Albert noted, the instructions for ping are incorrect -- this is not expected to work. (Albert and I both tried pinging our consoles and it failed, but we can both connect to them just fine to deploy and debug.)

I have same problem as "waheyluggage"

When i try to deploy i get a "Error 1 The connection timed out before reaching host. Make sure that host is connected on your local subnet and waiting for a connection. "

I have generated a new key and still have the same issue.

Everything else Xbox360 related is working like xbox-live and streaming music, pictures etc from networked computers,

Please advise,

Ok! :) It works.. I generated a new key again... and this time it worked.

Same here. Generated my 3rd key and that one seems fine. It could well have been me writing it up wrong - the 360 is on the standard def tv at the moment and I had to look really carefully to catch the difference between 1 and I. Going to go back to the hi-def tv I think.
All seems to be working now though - nice job on it all.

SuperFreq

I was having the exact same problem and I think I figured out what was going on for me:

I was so caught up in copying the connection key that I didn't realize that each time I had the "Cancel" option highlighted and I just pressed A when I was done (thus cancelling my key).

The funny part was that I was taking pictures of my screen so that I could try the same code more than once to make sure I wasn't just typing it in wrong. That's when I noticed that all the pictures have the "Cancel" selected.

I hope this helps someone from taking apart thier whole network and readjusting all of thier router settings like I did :).

On future releases I would suggest either getting rid of the cancel button or making accept be the default.

Also this MSDN tutorial tells you to ping your xbox which does not work and made me very confused. Maybe it should be changed to reflect this.

If you look at the troubleshooting tips It says to ping your xbox. Doesn't work.
