when i tried to install the plugin into maya. i got the following error message.

"error X3539:ps_1_x is not supported in this version of the compiler
memory(125,23):ID3DXEffectCompiler::CompileEffect: There was an error compiling expression
ID3DXEffectCompiler: Compilation failed"

now i'm aware of the new ps 1 change. however it would have been nice if the exporter had been updated to reflect this. so it is currently broken.

Ya... Im having a similar problem... Maya 7 unlim wont even recognize the plug in period... it doesnt even show up in the plug in manager.

to get the plugin recognized. do the following.

1: goto ....\Alias\Maya7.0\modules
2: use notepad and create a text file called DirectX.txt
3: put this line of text in it.

+ D3DMaya7ExportX 5.0 C:\Program Files\Microsoft DirectX SDK (December 2006)\Utilities\Bin\PlugIns\Maya\Binary7

the "C:\Program Files" maybe different if not installed in the default loction. so edit that it necessary.

4: save file in the ....\Alias\Maya7.0\modules folder.
5: when you next startup Maya. it will be recognized.

be warned when you load the plugin. you'll get an error message. yet just ignore it and it will work fine. though every time you start Maya with that plugin enabled. it will give the same error message.

Hi,

I have managed to convert some models from maya 7 into .x format using the DX plugin. They are visible in the utility viewer provided by the sdk but they do not show up on any other example .x file viewers. Sometimes they show up but with a lot of flickering. Any ideas
