Very soon, these forums will no longer permit new posts. The XNA team has moved their forum support over to the new XNA.com site, including the new site for community discussions and headlines, http://creators.xna.com.

We apologize in advance if this creates an inconvenience, but we are very excited about the new opportunities this will offer to our entire community.

We look forward to seeing you there!

It does not appear that the new forums support marking posts as answered or helpful, nor do they appear to offer e-mail alerts or searching. Lastly, since they cannot be marked as answered, there is no "Top Answerers" list like on the MSDN forums. Being on this list is sort of a badge of honor which motivates people in the community such as myself to answer posts for others.

The other content on this site looks exciting, but all in all I think moving the forums there is a big mistake, at least with the current feature set, and the value of the forums will be severely crippled.

Wow I just noticed that you have to have an X-Box Live account to even make a new post in the new forums. Does this mean that Windows game developers who do not own X-Boxes are to be left high and dry with no forum support

Seems like the XNA Team wants to make their product lose popularity.

Nope, signing up is free. You can make a new account without an xbox. More info here: http://letskilldave.com/archive/2007/03/06/The-Permanence-of-Gamertags.aspx

Well that's good to know, although it seems odd to force Windows developers to get an X-Box gamer tag.

Still I hope those that recognize the value of the other features of the MSDN forums that I mentioned will reply on this thread and voice their desire to see those features added.

1) Games for Windows Live will use the same gamertag system. Getting a gamertag is completely free.

2) We are working on integrating searching, we consider it an extremely important to integrate searching of the XNA forums with Visual Studio

3) Email alerts will also wotk on forums.xna.com, but there seems to be some problems with it at the moment (we're still working out some bugs now that we've gone live)

4) Answered/Unanswered Posts are also supported, but there are some configutation features on the forums that needs a little tweaking.

We understand that we are expected to meet the bar set by the MSDN forums, and fully intend to meet or exceed that bar. We ask for your patience while we get these matters fixed.

Thank you for addressing my concerns, David. I have been a top contributor to the MSDN forums for a couple of months now, and I'm happy to donate my time because I'm very excited about the XNA technology and I want to see it grow and reach its full potential.

Not a problem. Please keep in mind that XNA is a brand. WHen we speak of XNA, we refer to game development technologies, which refers to both XNA Game Studio technologies and products as well as DirectX SDK components. Hopefully this will sink in over time.

I don't grasp what your point is there.

Sorry, that's my problem with trying to speed read stuff and respond to multiple forums around the same time -- I cross-posted oneof my responses to a thread to this one.

I need to take a nap

You guys are working hard. Go grab some ZZZs. You deserve it.

Just as a side note... Sorry if I rained on your parade a little bit. Except for the missing features on the forums, this new site rocks! There's a new XNA starter kit and tutorials and lots of goodies, not to mention the site has a very slick look.

Fear not, we have a great big list of what's missing (for me, the lack of code formatting in forum posts is the worst one at the moment). Things will continue to improve over time.

I'm mostly just happy to have got this stuff out to you guys at all! It's been very frustrating during the delay after writing the sample programs, while we were reviewing them, testing them, etc, when we'd see forum questions that could easily be answered by pointing to one of our samples, but we didn't yet have that sample available to point to...

Unfortunately, my gamer tag isn't recognized by the forums; Each time I try to log in it says something about needing a gamer profile. This despite having one that I've verified to work on the X-Box live site.
