It has been a long time (feeling instead of real time) since XNA 1 released. I've been waiting for news about the next big thing. But it seems it's rather quite; no early info is out. What will be the next exciting things I can only guess...

1) Maybe it's an XNA Game Studio Professional which works with VS Pro version. But I'd rather like an XNA SDK to work with any IDE.

2) Maybe it's great enhancement to the framework. Many more D3DX stuff come into XNA, lifting XNA to the same level as MDX/native DX in functionality. Hmm...I hope the functionalities are not dropped just because they're not supported on XBox.

XNA GSE has only been out since 1/3 into December in 06. Version 1 isn't too old!
Since C# is a .NET language, I doubt it will ever be available for other IDE's expect for maybe VS Pro.

Umm, I guess you mean the xbox portion. Because you could just add the XNA references to your C#/VB/C++ projects and go from there. If you want the Xbox deploy/debug functionality for other VS2005 edition, then I completely agree with you.

Because C# is a .NET language, it can be used by MANY IDEs across MANY platforms. The way the .NET platform was built, it is very easily platform independent. As for the languages, all it takes to write in a language is a text editor and a compiler. An IDE is just a graphical front for the compiler, debugger, and other tools.

EDIT: Maybe I misunderstood your point; thought you were referring to C# rather than XNA being able to work in other IDEs. XNA can be used by any IDE as well, it is just a set of .NET assemblies. Building Content, Templates, and 360 Deployment is what makes C#E/GSE the full package. In fact I develop most of my XNA stuff in Visual Studio 2005 Team Suite, and run a "client" program in C# Express with all the content.

XNA v1 has only been out since December guys, none of us have even touched its full potential... so start producing results and stop waiting for Version 2.

Ahem, we may be building and running XNA pretty much everywhere eventually.

Patience young Padawan, the XNA team has already said they're working on things. There's a lot you can do with what you have already. No one's come close to tapping XNA's full potential yet so work with what you have and be happy.

I was wondering if we could expect networking soon. (in Express or Professional)

Any news on this

Thanks!

Quotes from another thread dating from august 06:

Our biggest deviation from the standard Compact Framework assemblies is that we aren't exposing any networking on Xbox in this first release (I can't comment on future plans other than to assure you they do exist :-)

It's highly unlikely that crypto will ever be exposed on the Xbox 360 but network access is something that we are "aggressively" investigating for our next release. We can't promise anything on this front though.

Fear not, when we're ready to make an announcement about the next version, that announcement will surely get made...

It's unlikely to happen just by a dev like me posting something in a forum, though. I'm sure you can appreciate that the marketing people care a lot about that kind of thing, and will want to pick the right time and place to go public about whatever is coming next.
