We are generating reports on II6 (.net 2.0). Most of the times everything works just fine, but from time to time we get following exception:

System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x800003E5): Failed to open report.
at CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.ClientDoc.ReportClientDocumentClass.Open(Object& DocumentPath, Int32 Options)
at CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.ReportClientDocumentWrapper.Open(Object& DocumentPath, Int32 Options)
at CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.ReportClientDocumentWrapper.EnsureDocumentIsOpened()

When this problem occurs the pool needs to be restarted. The wndows server event log doens't have any trace of this exception. What could be the problem How could we analyze the problem. Many thanks.

Hi all,

I have a support case open with Business Objects for this issue. I have been working with them for a few months now but still no resolution.

If we get this fixed I'll post the solution.

Thanks

Andy

Re: Crystal Reports for Visual Studio Crystal Reports for .NET 2.0 - Failed to open report

Lunchbox

Hi there

I also ran into this problem yesterday when we were doing load testing on our test server.
This problem came up only 3 out of maybe 50 report requests, so I'm not sure if it's got something to do with avalability of the needed report object files perhaps Because we finished testing yesterday and today the reports open with no problem

Hopefully we can get an answer soon from business objects.

Thanks

Alain de la Kethulle

Hello,

Does any one know what could cause this behaviour

I've an application which runs for almost 10 month in production and never had this problem...

Now, in 10 days, i've had this two times... Unfortunately, I don't have any access to the server: so i can't track any changes except the ones performed when upgrading my application...

Thanks in advance

Alain de la Kethulle

Hi Alain,

The problem still has not been resolved. Ití»s a painstaking process and BO doní»t have the most efficient support team.

I'll keep you posted...

Thanks

Andy

Hello Andy,

Thanks for your reply,

Has BO already determined what causes this bug

Concurrency problems, cache, bad file closing procedures ...

Maybe I can help search isolate the problem but as i said above, it will be difficult to provide exact information for me as I do not have direct access to the server (even indirect acces is not possible :-) )

Rams

Hi All,

I am also facing the same issue with Crystal Reports for .NET 2.0 ... unfortunately there is no supporting documentation to resolve this issue ...

Is this anyway related to the Concurrent users ... I believe there is a limit of 5 concurrent users beyond which Crystal reports.NET 2.0 will fail ..

Do you guys have any such experience ... if so could you please help me out how to trace such errors .. error messages in event log will be of much help ..

thanks

Hi Alain and Rams,

BO have not resolved this issue as yet.

I have passed your comments regarding concurrent users onto them. Hopefully this will help.

Out of interest does anybody have this issue: when I edit reports in Visual Studio all of the Crystal Reports context menu options are duplicated. Refer to the screen shots - http://193.108.82.67/CrystalReports10042007SS.zip

Thanks

Hi, I have similar problem

System.Exception: Load report failed. ---> System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x800003E5): Failed to open report.
at CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.ClientDoc.ReportClientDocumentClass.Open(Object& DocumentPath, Int32 Options)
at CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.ReportClientDocumentWrapper.Open(Object& DocumentPath, Int32 Options)
at CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.ReportClientDocumentWrapper.EnsureDocumentIsOpened()

rpt filepath is corect, but load report failed.

Big Andy 78

Hi guys,

Here is my latest response from BO:

Hello Andy,

thanks for your notes and the screenshots.

Your issue is not linked to the entry in the forum and the guy who wrote there is wrong.

The 5 concurrent user limit was for RDC in ASP. But you and this guy, you are using NET where we have 3 concurrent threads lecence model.

If your application would reach that number it would be queued automatically but not run into that error.

Even more confusing were the screenshots which you sent from your system.

I discussed this issue withthe colleagues from CR Design and they told me they have never ever faced such a double command problem in the designer.

We hope this only occurs on your testsystem and not in live production environments.

We strongly recommend to reinstall the whole NET developer environemt including the NET framework and the crystal designer. Please use, if possible, a tool from MS called REGCLEAN to see what inconsistent keys you might have in your registry.

Or you might also take into your consideration to install on a different system.

Again, our hint regarding the error message is to try to produce this error with our own samples.

Pls keep us informed

}

Thanks

Andy

Re: Crystal Reports for Visual Studio Crystal Reports for .NET 2.0 - Failed to open report

HelmutM

i receive similar problems with a .NET 2.0 Application hosted in a Citrix environment. This System has a lack of a drive c: (x: is used instead)

regarding the informations gathered with Sysinternals FilemonNT.exe, CR tries to get Directory information of c:\, if this fails, this exception is thrown.
If i connect c: to any network share, so that c: becomes valid, the report loads sucessfully

Filemon Output of a sucessfully opened report:
...
08:51:32 test.exe:5944 QUERY INFORMATION X:\Programme\test\Reports\rptTest.rpt SUCCESS Attributes: A
08:51:32 test.exe:5944 OPEN C:\ SUCCESS Options: Open Directory Access: 00000000
08:51:32 test.exe:5944 CLOSE C:\ SUCCESS
08:51:32 test.exe:5944 OPEN C:\ SUCCESS Options: Open Access: All
08:51:32 test.exe:5944 QUERY INFORMATION C:\ SUCCESS FileBasicInformation
08:51:32 test.exe:5944 CLOSE C:\ SUCCESS

08:51:32 test.exe:5944 OPEN X:\programme\test\reports\ SUCCESS Options: Open Directory Access: All
...

maybe it is a premission problem of c:\ in your case. Any hints
