Hi,

Odds are you do not have permission to either the report file, or the temp directory where a temporary report file is created.

You can go to sysinternals.com and search for a utility called filemon. It will create a log file that shows all file access by all applications.

Hi,
Did u find a solution to this issue We are having the same problem but it only occurs periodically. All will be working fine and then this error occurs and will continue for all Crystal reports until you do an IIS Reset.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Hi all,

BOs still have not resolved or diagnosed this issue. I am getting increasingly impatient with their support department as they dont seem to be doing a great deal from their end.

If you know of any other forums for this this problem then please let me know. I will forward details of other occurrences to BO and hopefully this may convince them that action is required.

Here is my latest (frustrated) response to BO:

This is not acceptable.

All the evidence for this issue indicates that there is a bug in the latest releases of Crystal Reports. The error is thrown by your API and it started occurring immediately after we migrated from "Visual Studio 2003/Crystal Reports XI" to "Visual Studio 2005/Crystal Reports XI Release 2". Furthermore the Filemon/Regmon log files that I sent you (07/02/2007 09:19) prove that the problem lies in your API.

I raised this issue with Business Objects in December 2006 when we purchased a support case. I have followed all advice and instructions given by the support team however I do not have a resolution and I am exceptionally dissatisfied with your responses, response times and lack of a resolution.

Regarding the responses and response times; the worst example of this is it took over two weeks to get a response to my replies on 16/01/2007 04:09, 22/01/2007 06:28 and 25/01/2007 01:42.

And more recently it took over a week to get a response for my feedback left 22/03/2007 10:29 where I pointed out that BO had provided me with incorrect advice, and when BO did eventually responded 30/03/2007 02:50 I was given the exact incorrect advise again.

In addition to this a lot of my questions go unanswered and I have been provided with bad advice on a number of occasions.

This does not feel like a professional service.

In response to your latest comments:

Unfortunately we cannot escalate a bug if we cannot replicate it.

What steps have you taken to attempt to replicate this bug I have supplied:

- Detailed information of this bug, our implementation and supporting topics

- Source code at your request

- Log information from the OS, Filemon, Regmon, ASP.NET and IIS

So far, the issue seems to exist only on your machine and is still not known here in our database.

As previously stated (05/04/2007 01:28) there are plenty other people experiencing this problem:

Please try to replicate the bug in a stable environment with our own samples and not your code.

As I have already stated (05/04/2007 01:28) our environments are stable. We have state of the art servers managed by professionals. Our product was working robustly for nearly two years. This changed when we moved to Crystal Reports XI release 2. The only unstable component is Crystal Reports.

In addition I have tried your sample code and it worked correctly. However this sample code uses a different implementation to ours. I raised this on 16/04/2007 07:33 but I have not receive a response from you.

If you can replicate the issue, please contact us and send us the code.

This problem is replicated on nearly a daily basis. What steps have you taken to try to replicate this

If you need assistance with your own code please contact our consultancy departement as we from Techsupport are not in a position to debug customer code.

Our code is standard; it is based on guidance provided in books published by reputable publishers and from similar online resources. Our implementation uses your standard objects to create reports in a typical manner.

We sent you samples of our code at your request.

This case is open now for 125 days. That is why I am freeze it again to give you enough time to replicate the issue.

I am NOT satisfied with the response times from your department and the lack of resolution. Our customers have suffered with this problem for more than 125 days. This directly affects our reputation and relationship with our customers.

If I do not get a satisfactory response from your team I will escalate case through your complaints department.

Hi,

Just wanted to add that our solution to this problem was to phase out Crystal and go with SQL Server Reporting services. Reading your post, I am glad we bit the bullet and did. We are absolutely happy with the new reporting suite and it handles our requirements without any issues - the server just runs without much fuss at all which is a huge contrast to when we were running Crystal. As our business hosts clients from across different countries, it was imperative that 24hr process time is achievable.

Hope you resolve your issues soon...

Regards

John.Tui.

Hi John,

Thanks for the info. I think we are going to re-write our reporting module with SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services.

Cheers

We wer able to intercept one error by using ntfilemon. The error was being caused by the fact the the root of the system drive didn't have access to the 'users' group.

I believe it had a different eror code than what you are reporting, but the call stack was the same.

Hi JoeBlow,

Thanks for the advice.

We actually caught the error using Filemon and Regmon a few months ago and sent the information onto Business Objects. However they still havent diagnosed the bug.

Thanks

Andy

Yep, BO's 'award winning support' sucks as much as their product.

Has anyone found a viable resolution to this error message We have several sites that receive the message and am curious if BO ever resolved the issue.

Thanks!
