    - Post Deployment Storage.sql & Indices I've found the workaround for creating a file in a filegroup in the post deployment storage script. In Schema Objects | Storage | File Groups I have this: ALTER DATABASE [$(databasename)] ADD FILEGROUP [SECONDARY] and in the Scripts | Post Deployment | Storage I have this: IF NOT EXISTS(SELECT 1 FROM dbo.sysfiles WHERE name = 'fapdb_indexes') BEGIN ALTER DATABASE [$(databasename)] ADD FILE ( NAME = N'fapdb_indexes', FILENAME = N'F:\SQLServer2005\Indexes\fapdb\fapdb_idx.ndf', MAXSIZE = UNLIMITED, FILEGROWTH = 1MB ) TO FILEGROUP [SECONDARY] END However, the reason I am creating a second filegroup is to store my indices on a second set of HDD spindles. So, when the indices are created the second spindle set doesn't exist.     - Changing comments programatically I would like to be able to change comments for items in sourcesafe via the API. I can find the IVSS Version and see comments for an item/version but there does not seem to be a way of modifying a versions comments. I know this can be done via the IDE so there must be a call for me to duplicate this functionality. I found the IVSS VB project that is a VB.net project that attempts to mimic the SourceSafe IDE but it does not allow editing of comments! any help would be appreciated.     - Cherry Pick Merge causes conflict I know this subject has come up a few times in the forum, and I've read the answers to those - but still not sure I'm following the answer. I am following an admittedly old webcast from TechEd 2005 by Douglas Neumann that talks about TFS Promotion Modeling, and the ability to Cherry-Pick merge a particular changeset. I'm wondering has something changed since the beta when this seemingly worked Very similar to the demo, I have the following setup: DEV branched to QA (changeset 29) DEV class1.cs QA class1.cs Make a change to class1.cs and check it in + add new property called "NewFeature" for the next release (changeset 30) Make another change to class1.cs for a bug fix and check it in + add new property called "BugFix", need this in the QA branch. (changeset 31) Now, Cherry Pick Merge DEV to QA, selecting only changeset 31. (*should* only contain the new BugFix property) Get Conflict error saying " The source and target both have changes " Note that nothing has changed in the target branch (QA).     - About the warm up period and pass webtest context to loadtest plugin I am new to vsts and playing of it these days. It seems the warm up period test result has been included and affected the final test result (such as total tests, response time). Is there a way to exclude the warm up period result Transaction is used for my load testing and vsts is able to get avg. response time for each transaction, but how can I get the total response time (TTLB) for each transaction There is a counter is used in webtest coded and wanna pass the result to loadtest plugin, and write the result into a file once the loadtest is finished. I did some research in the forum, it seems context is the way to pass this value but how to pass it to the loadtest Please give a simple example if possible. Thanks!     - "An error occurred loading this property page" when accessing options page on end-user machine Hi, I have a VsPackage, which has a custom options page and a new menu item. When I deployed the package to the end user machine, I found I could see the custom options page and the new menu item. The new menu item worked fine but when I clicked the my custom options page, it gave me an error message: "An error occurred loading this property page". Any idea what went wrong I read some posts saying that the solution was to change the font. And It didn't work for me. I'm using Visual Studio 2005 Profession Edition. I found even on my development machine, it only worked when it's started as "/rootsuffix Exp /noVSIP". When it's started as "/noVSIP", there are no new menu item and no custom option page.     - Can't remove working folder in Visual Sourcesafe v. 8.0.50727.42 I've got a tree: - application - client - server First I set 'client' to a working folder. Later I set 'application' to a working folder, and now I want to remove the working folder connected to 'client'. But I can't. If I choose "Set working folder..." and erase the folder, the Ok button becomes disabled and I can't confirm. This seems to be a problem only on the version of Sourcesafe. I'd be grateful for help.     - Problem printing local report without preview I am having trouble printing a report without preview. The report designer works and I can print from it, but the process would be too slow for the final application. I have tried the walkthough provided by Microsoft for printing a report without preview and keep getting an inner exception (the program seems to read the dataset, first query (view), but can't find data for the second query(view) and throws the exception. The iterations of course overlaps each other, since we begin the Beta iteration at the same time we have the Production iteration for the preceding version. Lets assume we release Version 1.0 to our customer and we also have started working on Version 2.0. How do we handle bug reporting between versions of the product -We find a bug in Version 1.0 Production = What field should we use for telling that this bug was found in "v1.0 Production" - The same day we find a bug in "Version 2.0 Beta". - 2 bugs reported this day.... but one in version 1, and the other in the current beta of version 2. Possible solutions: 1.     - Transactions in a Unit test Hi, To create a transaction in a unit Test case, I have used TestContext.BeginTimer & Endtimer and have used these values in Load Testing. In the Load Testing result I can see this transaction name, but the problem is when I am doing a Data Driven testing and including the BeginTimer and EndTimer, no transaction name is showing up in the Load Testing result.     - Need help with web test validation rule. Hello, I need a little help with a web test validation rule. I am sure this is simple but I cannot select the correct rule. When I record, the system shows a "Form Post Parameter" : ctl00$PageContent$fldPayer. I wish to validate it's contents. This would seem straight forward but I cannot select a validation rule that works. I trid both "Form Field" and "Required Attribute Value" (the find text works but that is too simplistic, I what to value the contents of a specific field) My guess is that "required attribute value" is what I need to use but I cannot figure the the tag, attribute combinations I need to use.     - TFS Warehouse and Work Item Field Change Integration Hi, Our Bug Rates report has flat lined. The error seemed to coincide with the changing of a CustomField from a integer to a string. The field is called BugSeverity and is in the Bug Work Item. Originally it was numbers 1-5. During the change process, the Custom Field was removed from the Bug Work Item in the Process Template and the Project Bug Work Item Template. The field was then deleted from TFS using the witfields command line tool. The BugSeverity field was then recreated as a string and re-added to the Process Template and to each Project. Around that time the Bug Rates report flatlined. However, we had had this same problem previously and it was solved by rebuilding the TFS warehouse. Rebuilding the warehouse did not solve the problem this time. Here is the initial error message. The stack trace is much longer. I am just providing the intial error.     - vb file problem with visual sourcesafe I'm using visual sourcesafe internet. I have a problem checking in VB files. ASPX files seem to be ok. I receive this message when checking in a VB file: there was failure uploading the URL http://domain/sourcesafe/vssupload_db1/ ... Do you want to retry the operation. I can create the vb file and the file is initially added to sourcesafe. But once I start making changes, it will not check back in and produces the error above. Any help is appreciated.     - Users can no longer connect to TFS Hi, I came across a very strange problem. I have a group of developers which connect to TFS regularly. They are all members of the domain group 'Developers' which in turn is a member of the 'Contributors' group of my team project. Some developer, which has been connecting to the server for a some time, can not connect any more and is prompted with the User/Password dialog. No changes were made to the server group membership or the doamin group membership. This happend more than once before with no apparent cause. When I add that user to the 'Contributors' group individually (not through the domain group), all goes back to normal.     - Splashscreen difficulties I'm writing a small windows app using Visual J# Express. I'm having a lot of trouble with the splashscreen. I've created a form with a background image. I can remove the title bar, but the form still has a border around it which I'd like to remove. My image is a png with gradient transparency. The background of the form being gray ruins the transparency effect. I'd like the image to show slight transparency through to the desktop. Also I'd like to achieve a fade effect after the splash has been displayed for a few seconds. My attempts to achieve this affect on my own yield a very poor choppy fade. I'm hoping there is a better way to do that too. Can anyone point me to a good tutorial for splash screens. Obviously I'm not trying to do anything that hasn't been done before. The Visual J# web page seems to indicate that you can set a splash page from the Project Properties, but I've found no way to do that.     - Database Validation Rules I see built-in database validation rules that can be used with webtests. My quick try to use them the way I use the other validation rules failed, I get an error "DatabaseFieldValidation Validation Object reference not set to an instance of an object.     - Call was rejected by callee I'm running into a different problem as well here. I'm getting this error message when I attempt to trigger a custom menu item added by a VSIP Package using the DTE automation. I have a regular winforms application that launches an instance of Visual Studio and gets the DTE object that it exposes through OLE Automation. I have a VSIP Package registered that is essentially a slightly modified ToolWindow that adds a menu to the View menu. I've noticed that the VSIP Package doesnt load up until the menu item is clicked, so as a quick work around, I want to trigger that window just to force the VSIP Package to load up. I'm doing that with DTE.ExecuteCommand("View.MyToolWindowVB"). When this is called, an exception is thrown indicating that the call was rejected. I can manually select that menu item no problem, and I can trigger other menu items (ie "File.NewProject") without problems. If a subsequent build is initiated but no code has changed since the last build, then Code Analysis is not performed again. This makes sense because CA can take too long on large projects. Although CA isn't run because nothing changed, the violations from the previous run are still applicable if nothing changed, however the list of violations is cleared from the Error List tool window. Considering that Visual Studio CA writes a *.CodeAnalysisLog.xml file to the build output folder, this could easily be reloaded into the Error List window with minimum performance impact and would correctly represent that issues still exist in the project.     - Why does VS2005 auto check out all project files when opening a solution without a .suo file? Whenever I do a "clean" build or create a new workspace from revision control, VS2005 always checks out all of the project files within a solution. I tracked the problem down to the presence of the solution's .suo file. This file isn't covered by revision control, so cleaning the workspace or creating a new workspace unlinks this file. This seems like a pretty bad bug, since it prevents me from doing unattended builds. If you call devenv directly from the command-line the same problem happens. I'm using VS2005 team suite.     - MSDN Library Installation Problem from DVD Hi, I have just purchased Visual Studio 2005 Professional. I have installed the application itself with no problems but now I am trying to install the MDSN Library that comes with it (3 DVDs). I keep getting the same error on the 2nd disk: Error 1305.Error reading from file: C:\Program Files\MSDN\MSDN8.0\netdevfx20\1033\cpref16.hxs. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it. No matter what I try, I can't get this to work. I have Windows Live OneCare internet security installed but I have turned off the virus scanner in case that was the problem but no joy. Then I tried copying the DVDs to my computer so I could try to install from there but I got the following error while I was copying the 2nd DVD: Cannot copy _17693_RTL_x86_enu_NET_Framework_SDK_HxS: Data error (cyclic redundancy check). The file mentioned in my first error message is in the CAB file that is mentioned in the second error message so the messages are obviously refering to the same problem. I am sure that the file is corrupt. Is there any way of requesting a peplacement disk or can the Library be downloaded from anywhere I am not an MSDN subscriber but I have bought Visual Studio 2005 Professional.     - Ajax accordion, how to stop certain items from collapsing? Hello, Im making a menu using the ajax accordion and loading its options from an SQL database, its pretty much all completed and running well. My problem is there are certain options in the menu that have no child items, because they themselves are links and therefore I do not want them to collapse when clicked. Ive seen the UpdatePanelAnimation in the Ajax site wich when you uncheck the "collapse" option it wont collapse, that is basically what I want, but I cant figure out how to make it work. I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me how to stop specific headers on the accordion from collapsing, whether its by using the Ajax UpdatePanelAnimation or something else.     - No start icons after install of VS Pro I have installed and uninstalled, or tried, several times and I do not get any icons in the start menu. I had it installed and upgraded xp to vista. Now I don't have the VS icons to start the IDE. I can't even find the program I am supposed to run to make my own icons. The install goes through without problems, but when I try to uninstall I get an error. I have Visual Studio Pro. I didn't see anyone on here with this problem. I don't think you'll be able to get exactly what you want, but the following resources may help you. They are resources for extending and customizing VS and the Team Explorer.
