The following particular point is not clear to us although I read the TFS official licensing document! Does TFS support a concurrent users licensing model I ask this question because I noticed that the talk is always about user CALS which effectively means tying a specific user name to TFS all the time !!

The problem for us is that we have 13 developers that work at different times of the day, therefore it would be more cost-effective for us to use the concurrent licensing model (If indeed such thing exists in TFS). I know that our system administrator can reassign user CALS but this will be a daily overhead!!

Please advise

My understanding is that currently there is not a concurrent user licensing model.

My understanding is that as long as you have purchased X number of "Team Suites",

or X number of "Team Suite" MSDN Subscriber licenses,

then you have X number of TFS "User CALs" automatically.

Then X number of concurrent users can legally access TFS at any time

without any manual assignment of "developer to CAL".

In other words, its an "honor system", where you would then do your later regular "license trueup" with Microsoft,

if you discovered you had more than X number of concurrent users.

But I certainly could be wrong ... (smile)

Thanks a lot skipster32 & Mickey,

Question: From where can we get an official statement as whether TFS supports concurrent users or not

Some possible sources:

1) The latest download of the "MicrosoftR Visual StudioR 2005
Team System Licensing
White Paper" ,

where it says, "Basic Licensing Model

In general, the Team System client products are licensed on a per user basis ... "

2) Your company's Microsoft licensing representative,

or associated Microsoft software vendor ...

3) A call to Microsoft with your Microsoft licensing agreement support number ...
