Hello,

I have a general question about the install of Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 and the MSDN package. I had elected to install the SQL Server components, and I am not able to directly access the 'GUI' or front end. I am new to all of this, and i am looking for the command to bring up the splash screen and load SQL.

Currently I can use studio to tell it to connect to a database, though I dont know what I am missing to only work with this version of SQL. To get what I am after, do i have to uninstall everything and install the express versions first, then will it upgrade I also have a SQL Server 2000 CD that came with some courses I have taken "at your own pace". would this option qualify as well or will I have problems later on

Thank you,

John

I am assuming you have installed Express, if you have VS2005 Professional and above you need to install SQL Server 2005 Developer edition it comes with two Management Studios one default to VS2005. if you want Reporting Services installed you need IIS installed if not the SQL Server installer will disable Reporting Services as an option. Hope this helps.

My apologies, I have the Visual Studio 2005 Standard Edition; I will check my install options. So I can install all of express and then Visual Studio 2000 Standard Edition; wont i run into issues if i want to create and publish some of my works

I am also trying to only load the 'front end' of the SQL portion from the Visual Studio 2005 & MSDN package so that I can convert an access database to a SQL Database.

VS2005 Standard comes with standard Express which comes without Management Studio and other needed tools so uninstall the Express and download and install the Express Advanced it comes with most things in the full SQL Server except the Agent and some restrictions. Hope this helps.
