When I attempt to install Visual Studio 2005 Team System for Testers on Vista Ultimate, I get the following diagnostic: Windows XP Service Pack 2 required. I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

Hello,

I'm sorry you're having trouble installing our product. That is definitely a weird message on Vista that shouldn't occur. Have you installed all latest updates from http://www.update.microsoft.com Try that and please let me know if that resolves the issue.

Thanks,

Thanks for responding, David. I tried your suggestion and Windows Update states that there are no new important updates available for my computer. The available updates are (1) for my monitor, (2) languages, and (3) Windows Vista Ultimate extras. I obtained my VSTS as a download from MSDN (a 3 CD ".iso" pack which I burned to CDs using Roxio on an XP system). I have incidents available but I'd hate to use one for this. Vista has otherwise been running fine for a couple of months now.

Hello,

To be honest with you, I'm not very familiar with how downloading from MSDN works. The only thing I can think of at this point is that you may have missed to copy the correct files, or at least some of them.

I'm sorry if I'm not as helpful as I would like to be. I suggest recopying the files or downloading them directly to your Vista box.

Thanks,

Thanks for the response David. I too wondered about the integrety of the download so here is some additional information. After viewing your original response I realized that the Vista PC I was installing on had previously had XP installed on it. It was brought to Vista using a clean install which I did myself. I have since installed VSTS on another Vista PC which is brand new and came with Vista (Home Premium) already installed. VSTS installed successfully, using the same MSDN downloaded CDs. That makes me suspect the Vista install on the problem PC. Can you suggest anything Right now I'm considering re-installing Vista although that will mean a lot of work since I have many applications installed and configured. Do you think a "repair" will help Thanks in advance. -Steve-

I have re-installed Vista (clean install) and my problem has gone away. I have since been able to install VSTS successfully. Thanks for the input. For now I would say, if anyone else runs into this problem, re-installing Vista is one way to fix it. Thanks again.
