Hi All,

Currently I'm working with DSL Tool v.1 from September 2006 SDK. I would like to try the Dec CTP. Is there any problem if I just install the new SDK with my DSL project Should I re-install September SDK first I'm in the middle of a project, I'm affraid if something goes wrong then I cannot continue. Can anyone give me suggestions about this TIA.

Sorry, when I said re-install I meant uninstall.

Herru,

I haven't tried this myself but from what I understand from this post from Gareth I think the "mirgration" shouldn't be to hard. It will probably "just work". Of course you have to decide for yourself if you are willing to take the risk! I do think you have to uninstall before you can install this CTP.

Good luck and let us know about your experiences!

Edward

It 'just worked' when I did this for a DSL. No guaranties that this will work for yours of course :)

There is no need to uninstall. However do bear in mind that it is a CTP. If you are at a critical point in a project and you are not blocked by some issue fixed in the CTP, then I would suggest waiting until the VSSDK4 release which should be available shortly. Even then there is potential (as with any software upgrade) to destabilise your environment, so you'll have to weigh the risk of that against the benefits.

Thanks Everyone.

Actually I'm not blocked with the DSL tools itself. But I found lots of interesting stuff in the MPF that comes with Dec CTP that might help me to build my DSL package. But its true, I'm already far with my project now (I dont want to say it is in the critical point), I'm not brave enough to take the risks. Especially when Blair said the RTM of SDK 4 will be available soon. I'll hapily wait.

But just a trial question then, lets say another system has this Dec CTP, can I just open my DSL project there without any problem TIA.

I'm sorry, I don't know because I've not tried it, but generally we don't promise forwards compatibility .

Certainly you can expect there to be issues attempting to use a designer built with the later runtime, so at the very least you'd need to re-generate and build these as Gareth explains here:

Well then, thanks again to you all.

But I'm still curious, if anyone in this forum has experience in this matter, I would really like to know. In the meantime I will try to find one of my colleagues who is not working with SDKs and is willing to take the risks for me. Of course I will let you know the result.

Hi All,

As I promised to let you all know about the result, it also "just work" in my other machine. I used a testing environment, with Sep and Dec SDK installed. It works OK untill now.

But I also got an error. It is about VsIdeTestHost. When I first run my old project, there was pop up window says something like: "The Add-in VsIdeTestHost failed to load or caused and exception. etc etc....". It asked if I want to remove this Add-in, but I did not remove it. The error message is the system cannot find the file specified with error number: 80070002. Does anyone have any idea about this
