I can't check in my db scripts from solution explorer. I can check them in from the pending changes window and from the Source Control Explorer tab but not solution explorer. When I attempt to do it from solution explorer it freezes Visual Studio and I have to kill the process. Anyone else have this problem

thanks,

Creighton

When you try to check in from Solution Explorer, does the Check In dialog appear, (in which case it hangs after you click the Check-In button) or does it hang before the dialog appears

Does it hang before or after the files are committed to the server -- i.e. if you restart the IDE and check status/properties on the scripts, are they still checked out

Is this the Database Professional SKU of VS or are you using the database project that comes with VSTS

Thanks,

It doesn't sound like exactly the same symptoms, but I wonder if the following hotfix might help:

When I attempt to checkin the dialogue doesn't appear. I am using DB Pro RTM and Visual Studio Team System. Also I am able to check in files via the pending changes window.

thanks,

I'm having the same issue...this also happens when I try to run a compare. It says it is "Examining changes since checked out" but never does anything. If I press ESC, it comes back and I can use the IDE again. It is like there is an invisible dialog box or something that I can't see.

Did the hotfix above fix the issue It doesnt sound like the same problem, and my web app is not quite as large as the hotfix suggests.

No that definately didn't help. VS 2005 Service pack 1 helped. Make sure you run through all installations. This is a great blog entry on the installation.

I did an install of SP1. We use TFS, and the point of putting on SP1 was to increase the support of web apps and solution files with TFS. I am not sure if there was an existing install of Web Application Projects on my machine before installing SP1 though. It went through the install 3 times i believe, once for each piece of VS. (TFS, Team explorer, and VS 2005). I'm a bit wary of uninstalling the SP1 and doing a reinstall, becuase if VS gets royally messed up, I don't have time to waste fixing my machine, as this bug issue has already set me back on my dev schedule..

Microsoft Web Application Projects 2005
Version 8.0.50727.762

That is my current version after the SP1 install...is that the same as yours if not, I guess I will remove that one piece, and try re-running SP1.

Thanks!

Looks like I have a different version

Microsoft Web Application Projects 2005 Version 8.0.60504.00

Well, maybe that is my issue....

Hopefully this uninstall won't be overly painful!

Thanks for you help!

Good luck, I feel your pain, I just lost 2 days of development because source control stopped working.

OK, so I never installed the Web Application Projects becuase it said it was included in SP1. So that is where I got my version from...I don't get it. I had never installed that prior, and now I have a version below yours.

Apparently if you install SP1, you get my version, if not, you get your version, which is odd since you said you installed SP1.

I found this link with what the before and after looks like for SP1:

You mentioned being able to hit the ESC key to reactivate the IDE and wondered if a dialog was hidden.

There is a possibility you are hitting the scenario discussed in this post (which also contains a workaround):

That was it! Thanks! That was driving me crazy...I switch from dual to single everyday (dual at work, single at home)...
