Portal error

I have a user who is an administrator for a project and has been given administrator rights in the portal. His team members as contributors can see the portal, but when he right clicks the project and selects "Show project portal" he gets an error says that it can not find the file. Does anyone have any clue what might be happening with this Could it be a DNS issue Odd thing others in his area can access the portal while this administrator can't (does not appear to be permission related).

No, it is just spitting out the generic file not found error.

Can other users access the portal if they login on his machine by their credential

You can check the DNS setting in his box and server's to see if it points to a correct DNS server.

Others on his team are able to connect to the portal, just he is not able to. I have been thinking that is is probably something on his system that is blocking him from accessing the portal.

The DNS settings appear to be correct, but the domain they are coming from is not the same as the domain that the Portal is hosted in. I have had the user enter the correct information in their Host file, as well as attempt ot manually go to the Portal site via the IP address. All tests failed.

It appears to be user specific, as others in this domain are able to gain access without any intervention.

One other possible diagnostic - start a network traffic monitor on the machine in question (e.g. Ethereal or NetMon) and see what URL he's trying to access.

Thank you for the suggestion. Unfortunately I have confirmed that the URL is not in question. He is able to access the Portal by entering the URL data in IE, but is only unable to gain access to the portal if he inside Visual Studio right clicks the project and attempts to browse to the portal.

Well, we can test whether it's his permissions or not by (temporarily) removing his admin access to the portal and the Team Project and see if he still gets the error (this should take effect immediately for a TFS group, but I'm not sure whether there's a delay for SharePoint or not).

If that's not it, it must be something specific with his machine or installation...

I am agree that it appears to be specific to his computer. I just do not know enought about VS to guess what the setting would be or where to start looking at this point.
