Hi,

We are having a pilot projekt for a development environment for our students with Visual Studio Steam System. The students want to access the TFS both from the terminal server and the lab rooms. Here the scenario:

1. One TFS server
2. One Terminal Server with VS Team Suite SP1 + Team Explorer + SQL 2005 SP1
3. Windows lab rooms with Windows XP SP2 clients + VS Team Suite SP1 + Team Explorer SP1
4. All computers are members of an AD domain and we are using domain credentials for the user accounts.

We are not able to access the TFS and the SQL DB from our Windows XP client maschines. When starting VS Team Suite on the clients the following happens.

1. When trying to add the TFS by using "Connect to Team Foundation Server" we get a dialog to put in username and password but nothing happens. When clicking in "Cancel" we get error TF31003 (user account does not have permissions to connect to the TFS). No error logging in the event log on the TFS server. Just in the IIS log we can see that "devenv.exe" try to access the web server through port 8143 which is the secure port we are using for TFS.

2. When trying to access the SQL DB from VS Team Suite by using "connecting to database" we can not access the database when using "integrated authentication". Here we get two error codes in the event log on the terminal server where even the SQL DB is installed.

  • Event ID 17806
SSPI handshake failed with error code 0x8009030c while establishing a connection with integrated security; the connection has been closed. [CLIENT: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx]
  • Event ID 18452
Login failed for user ''. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection. [CLIENT: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx]

When using a SQL account instead it is no problem to connect to the database.

When we ty to do the same things from the terminal server with VSTS installed everything is working fine. No problems to add and access the TFS and the SQL DB with integrated windows authentication.

So the hole problem should not depend on permissions of the user account.

Any ideas

Thanks!

/Michael

Re: Team Foundation Server - General Problems to access TFS from Visual Studio Team Suite

Misun

Hi again,

I want to add that it works to access the project web pages on the TFS server like
https://<servername>/sites/<projektname>/ from any Windows 2003 Server in our
domain but not from the Windows XP SP clients.

When trying from the server I get the NTLM authentication dialog to put in username and password and then it works without problems. From Windows XP i get the dialog too but after typing username and password three times I get "HTTP Error 401.1 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials."

In some way Windows XP seems to "talk" in another way than Windows Server 2003 does.

Any idea¡¯s

/Michael

This happens in my org all the time.

Here is a question for you, do you guys use a proxy to get to the internet do you have a nice friendly name for your server, i.e. tfs.myschool.com for example if so (which is my case) make sure you add an exception to you IE proxy settings to bypass local addresses and in the exception section add *.myschool.com:<proxy port> this should get you going just fine.

Let use know if that fixed it for you.

Cheers,

ET

Just bypass the Server ip in internet explorer proxy. To do that go to Control panel -> Internet options -> connections -> LAN settings-> < xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Select check box for bypass proxy server for local addresses and click advanced, enter the server IP in the exceptions.

Let me know if this works.

You are right but I've notice that sometimes you also need to add the proxy server IP and port in the exceptions as well.

Dear all,

Thank you for prompt reply,i tried that by adding the server ip on the exceptions list, but this doesn't work.

i want to rectify the problem, how can i access the TFS from the server it self to make sure it works fine and there's no any problem related to any one of its services.

Navigate to http://ATServer:8080/services/v1.0/registration.asmx. Can you reach this do you run the web method there this is one of the service that TE connects to when it starts. Also you could clear your TE cache. Here a few links with things to try

Yes My Dear, SP1 for TFS solve the problem,i posted this problem before installing SP1 for TFS.

after I installed it,i tried to login from Team Explorer window and its passed and now i can create team project as well.

i think the problem was in the TFS Server service which authenticate the users from Client Team Explorer, and it has been updated in the SP1.
