Service Release 1 will be released on July 23 2007

It will not contain IntelliSense, I am sorry that is too much to bite of in a service release, but we are working on that.

Service release 1 adds 3 main new features:

  1. Database references
  2. Filegroup and file definitions are moved in to the project file
  3. Variable support

Besides that it has official support for SQL Server 2005 SP2 and Windows Vista

We will also be release Power Tools on top of that, in there you will find:

Data Generation

  • Sequential Data Bound Generator
  • Editors for the Data Bound Generator, Sequential Data Bound Generator and the Regular Expression String Generator, to make it easier to configure these

Refactoring

  • Types
    • Move schema refactoring
    • Disambiguiate Schema refactoring
    • Wildcard Expansion refactoring
  • Targets
    • Strongly Typed Datasets
  • Tools
    • Refactoring command generator, based on the refactoring log to create sp_rename deployment scripts

MSBuild

  • Schema Compare Build Task
  • Data Compare Build Task

New tools

  • T-SQL Static Code Analyis
  • Dependency Viewer
  • SQL Script pre-processor to expand variables and includes inside .SQL scripts

Schema Reporting isn't included in the Power Tools

Schema Reporting - DBSpecGen functionality for the project system allows you to easily document your database schema.

Nope, schema documentation, is not part of this release of the Power Tools, we are finishing that one, but it is not ready yet.
