I have created a custom WI bug.xml field to display the calculated project duration and wanted to map this to the MS Project duration, which we believe is pjTaskDuration in MS Project. We modified the mapping.xml file for the project and all seems to upload fine, at least no errors. The problem is that when we publish from MS Project the duration hours is not refeleced in the WI. This is the WI definition.

<FIELD name="ProjectDuration" refname="IGT.Common.ProjectDuration" type="Double" reportable="dimension">

<HELPTEXT>Estimated Project Duration</HELPTEXT>

</FIELD>

and this is the project mapping.xml definition for the above custom field.

<Mapping WorkItemTrackingFieldReferenceName="IGT.Common.ProjectDuration" ProjectField="pjTaskDuration" ProjectName="Project Name" PublishOnly="true" ProjectUnits="pjHour"/>

Can you not map to a custom WI field or maybe we are using the wrong MS Project task field

Re: Team Foundation Server - Work Item Tracking Mapping MS Project field to custom WI field

Hi,

I also used Custom field mapping with MPP and tried the same ...it is working fine..i am giving the sample of this ...let me check out..

<Mapping WorkItemTrackingFieldReferenceName="CompanyName.PlannedEffortHrs" ProjectField="pjTaskText29" ProjectName="Planned Effort (hours)" />

I insert the custom column in MPP and entered 12 hrs for the Planned Effort (hours) ....published ..successfully...and i opened VSTS and check the same it is fine...

I think, if you are using custom field mapping, you have to use the available CUSTOM task text only ....i.e "pjTaskText {number}"

Hope this helps

Thanks,
Kathir

Ok. but how can I include a column automatically as its hapens when I open MS Project, create a new project file and click at Choose Team Project. After that, all fields that is customized to TFS are created as columns, like Work Item Type , Publish and Refresh, Area Path, ... . But doesnt create a column to my field that I created and mapping it to "baseline Start" (pjTaskBaselineStart).

If I click to include a column and include the Baseline Start Column and refresh MS Project, its works fine and get the correct values, but I wish this columns created automatically.

I'm clear

Hi Thiago,

Whatever you told, i also tried out...but the field that you have created of your own ie. (Custom Fields) and you mapped with MPP...when you are connecting to the server and project it doesn't create the Custom Columns automatically (as per my knowledge). So you have to do manual insert the column and work upon...

if you find any cool stuffs reg this. please share with us.

Thanks,
Kathir

I've just gotten:
<FIELD reportable="measure" type="Double" name="Estimated Effort Days" refname="Company.EstimatedEffortDays">
<Mapping WorkItemTrackingFieldReferenceName="Company.EstimatedEffortDays" ProjectField="pjTaskDuration" ProjectUnits="pjDay"/>
to work OK. Bi-directional field update between Project and TFS.
