Hi,

Wondering is there any good articles or guidelines out there on the best way to build and structure test modules/projects/solutions, especially as regards making them easy to partition, group, view and run within the test manager test view.

To kick the tyres we build one test class file that contained all the tests against a utility class in our main class library. With an average of 5 or 6 test methods per utility method the test class quickly grew quite large.

Just wondering have other people any good insights into structuring tests to make it easier to manage.

Thanks

Donal

Donal,

You can use test lists to manage your tests. Check out this for more information on managing large number of tests. Hope it will help.

Hi Rubel,

Thanks for the quick answer - I'm running VS 2005 Team Edition for Software Developers - and I dont have the "Create New Test List" menu option available. Is this functionality only available in the edition for testers

Thanks

Donal

Yes. Test Case Management is not available in Developer edition. Please check this link for more information on features comparison of various editions of VS.

Hi Rubel,

Thanks for the info.

Any plans to bring out a "Jack of all trades" edition in the near future ;-)

Thanks

Donal,

You can use Visual Studio 2005 Team Suite which is superset of all the editions.

Thanks,

Donal,

In Orcas we have now included support for Unit test in VS Pro Sku. For Beta2 we will also have the support for testlists to help in test case management to some extent.

Thanks,
