Clicking on the Location link more often than not fails giving the error: Could not start Microsoft Visual Studio. Try specifying an alternate source code editor in Application Settings.

Clicking Jump to Souce from the Context Menu opens a new instance of the IDE and then displays the same error.

Which version (2003, 2005, 2008 Beta) and flavor (Express, Standard, Team Suite, etc) of Visual Sudio do you have installed Also which version of FxCop are you using

Does jump to source always fail or just sometimes

Re: Visual Studio Code Analysis and Code Metrics Jump to Source fails

Robo Coder 1

VS 2005 Professional.

Using Fx Cop 1.36 beta 2.

It fails most of the time.

I just verified it creating a ghost of devenv.exe process.

Also, this time, clicking Location tells me it could not find the file. Clicking the Jump To Souce creates the ghost process and gives the error I reported yesterday.

With Fx Cop 1.35 I do not recall having such problems.

Todd,

Today clicking Location worked fine. I'll keep you posted if I find more information or if the failure recurres

Thanks for letting us know David. I wasn't able to reproduce this problem on my own machine either. If this problem ever does crop up again I'd be interested to know more about exactly how it happens.

Todd,

I was able to reproduce this consistently where the solution resided under a folder with a space in the folder name.

The particular case is as follows: c:\my\customer\program version\solution\assembly....

After replacing the space between program and version with a period (i.e., program.version) FX Cope was able to open the source file.

Dave,

Thanks. This is a known issue that we are tracking internally.
