Hi,

I am newbie in Team Foundation Server Setup and I just have a few question. This is the scenario:

I have SQL Server 2005 in one machine(server X). I will install my Team Foundation Server in different machine(server Y) and I will use the SQL Server of Server X as my database server. Is this possible in Single-Server Deployment I know that there is a Dual-Server Deployment wherein I may separate the database to application and I may install also the SQL server in the same machine but due to licensing issue for SQL Server we are not doing this.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,

Re: Team Foundation Server - General Installation of TFS Single-Server Deployment

Hi Ron,

A single server deployment of TFS is where all components (SharePoint, SQL Server, etc) required for TFS are installed on the same machine. A dual server deployment is where TFS is separated into 2 tiers, data and application and these tiers are installed on separate machines. The data tier contains your SQL Server installation and the application tier contains SharePoint, SQL Server Reporting Services and TFS.

So for your setup you would require a dual server deployment that would allow you to use your existing SQL Server (server X) and then deploy the application tier to server Y. The TFS installation guide has really good walkthroughs for setting up a either a single or dual server deployments.

Hope that helps.

Glenn.
