I have been unable to create a team project, or even connect to the Team Server. Here is the steps that I have tried, and not sure what I a missing

I logged on the server as TFSSETUP and tried the following

1. On creating a project: the request failed with status not found 404

2. On connecting to team foundation server, TF31001, Team Foundation cannot retrieve
the list of projects from Team Foundation Server <servername>. The Team Foundation
Server returned the following error: The request failed with HTTP status 404: not found

3. I am able to browse to the server status page, just fine.

4. I try to connect to the Reporting Services using the SQL Server Management Studio
It says: The attempt to connect to the report server failed. Check your connection
information and that the report server is compatible version. Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.
UI.RSClient. The request failed with HTTP status 404: not found

I logon as the TFSSERVICE account
4) Retried and I am able to connect to Reporting Services.

It sounds like your TFSSetup account doesn't have SQL administrative access. I believe you need to be a SQL DB admin in order to create Team Projects.

Hope this helps-

Adam,

Do I need to make this account the admin on a particular database, or just add it to the sysadmin role on the server The account TFSSETUP doesn't show in the SQL Server list of users
in the Management studio.

Thanks
Nik

The simplest thing to do would be to make it a sysadmin (or a machine administrator as I believe they're automatically SQL admins by default). Other than that, I believe that it would need admin permissions to all of the TFS tables (e.g. TfsIntegration, TfsWarehouse, etc.), the STS databases, and the Reporting databases. It's possible just setting that would allow you to create projects, but I haven't tested that case so can't confirm.

Best of luck-

Cheers,

Adam

The account TFSSETUP is already under Local Administrators Group. I added it to SQL sysadmin role. Then added it to the databases I could add it to..

I also did the following:
1) Content Manager permissions in SQL Server Reporting Services. Browse to /Reports">http://<TFS Application Tier>/Reports, click on the Properties tab and add userxxx or a group to the Content Manager role.

2) SharePoint site creation permissions. Access the SharePoint Administration site (Administrative Tools->SharePoint Central Administration) and click on "Set SharePoint administration group." Make userxxx or a group the SharePoint site administrator.

Still no Luck. Team System installation is a nightmare.
