Ashley Lessard

Hi Everyone,

As program manager, I'm a recent addition to the Crystal Reports for Visual Studio team. I look forward to contributing to this forum as often as I can, and I'm excited to hear any feedback, comments, or suggestions that you have.

I encourage you to visit our Developer Resource Center as a great starting point for all of our developer products. It has links to sample code (118 C# and VB samples), our Developer Library online SDK documentation, our Developer Zone, and Business Objects Support Forums.< xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Also, for those of you that are new to report design and using the Crystal Reports Designer embedded in Visual Studio, check out the "Creating Reports" documentation at http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-US/library/ms225242.aspx It has a wealth of information to help you get started.

I look forward to talking to you all in the forums!

Thanks,

Ashley Lessard (Business Objects)

Howdy Folks,

I figure I should introduce myself as well. I work with Ashley on the Developer Mission team at Business Objects. I write the documentation that ships with our products, as well as some of the lovely samples that Ashley pointed out on our developer community site.

I've been working on the Crystal Reports team for a little over a year now - starting with Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2005, and then Crystal Reports XIr2. Currently, I'm working on the newest addition to the Crystal Reports product line, which I'm sure we'll talk more about in the coming months.

I'll be acting primarily as a moderator here on the forums, although I will do my best to answer some of your questions. If I get a chance, I may spend some time talking about some of the other great products in the Crystal Reports family.

Hello,
I have been working with Crystal Report XI, in VB.NET 2003, works well but now that I tranfered the code to VB.Net 2005. I am getting this error.
What my code does is printing the Time Sheet for each user aprox 100 users. After printing few of then I got the error message.
"CallbackOnCollectedDelegate was detected Message: A callback was made on a garbage collected delegate of type 'CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.DataSetConversion!CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.DataSetConversion.DataSetConverter+CrdbAdoPlusDelegate::Invoke'. This may cause application crashes, corruption and data loss. When passing delegates to unmanaged code, they must be kept alive by the managed application until it is guaranteed that they will never be called."

Could you please give me any idea to solve this issued.
Thanks
Edgar

Hi D.M.,

Probably the best places to start for general information are the Crystal Reports product documentation websites. There are numerous places where you can find more information.

If you are looking for specific information, please let me know and I will try to point you in the correct direction.

Dave,

I am in need of some direction. I am a VS2003/2005 user and also a licensed developer of CR XIR2 and I am looking for some guidance or documenation about using the embedded crystal reports designer component. I see many mentions about being able to use this as a part of my application, but I can find no documentation about it's requirements, dependencies or implementation.

All suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you;

David

Hi David,

I don't think I quite understand your question.
The Embedded Crystal Reports Designer is a Visual Studio plugin that allows you to create and edit Crystal Reports report files from within Visual Studio. The embedded designer is different than the standalone designer because while the embedded designer runs within Visual Studio, the standalone designer is an application that runs independantly of Visual Studio.

The embedded Crystal Reports designer is generally not available for use in third party applications (There are a few exceptions of course, including Crystal Reports for Visual Studio, Crystal Reports for Eclipse, Crystal Reports for Delphi .Net, etc.).

For most applications, the component that people most commonly use is the Crystal Reports viewer componnent. If you are wondering about how to use the viewer in an applications, you can find some more information in our documentation.

Are you looking for information about using Crystal reports within your own application

In older versions of CR, there was the RDC (runtime designer component ) that you could embed within your application. I am trying to get back to the point where I can recover this functionality. All the documentation I can find talk about the old active-x control, but there has to be a update with XI-R2. I assumed the embedded designer was the follow on to the RDC.

My need is this, my users have a need to create there own reports via my applications ADO.Net Datasets assembly. So I expect I need to create a usercontrol with the RDC functionality as a part of this library to allow the users to access this structured authenticated dataset. From what I can see, there is 'No' RDC type documentation for the XI-R2 version of the software.

Thoughts

Thanks;

David

Hi Ashley,

I want to know , whether Crystal Reports are built in VB.net or they are a seprate Component which needs to be installed. Like in classic VB , its a seprate Component. And also refer me some good tutorials fr Crystal reports both Window and Web based.

Thanks,

Re: Crystal Reports for Visual Studio Crystal Reports for Visual Studio Program Manager

I have a simple Crystal Report added to a simple asp page. (vb.net in VS 2005) The versions of my crystal report software and vs crystal report viewers have been configured. When the page first loads, it will load the report that was orginally created. Once you hit refresh it will allow you to get the records for here and now. The problem comes when you hit refresh. Once you hit refresh, it asks for logon credentials. (The report is pulled from a 2000 SQL server and will not accept Integrated Security) I have the logon creditionals scripted in the code, yet it still asks for them. If I can get some quick help solving this problem... I'd really appreciate it. Thank you!
