I am not sure what had happened, but every time I use a copy command (ctrl-c) in VS 2005, the stuff that I am copying automatically gets copied to my toolbox as a code snippet. It is driving me absulutely insane. My toolbox is growing every time I copy and paste.

Thanks for any suggestions,

Igor

Are you using some 3rd party add-in or macro

Also, I would try to close all IDE instances, open a VS DOS-prompt and type:

devenv.exe /setup

to reset the IDE.

I also get the same thing.. everything is going to the toolbox..

I've run that command, and it does nothing. As well I ran the one that resets the settings. And that also does nothing.

I've got all this text now in my toolbox.

All the text I press CTRL+C for.. goes in there. It's really annoying.

What toolbox group are the text snippets placed under

Thanks,

they're getting placed under the Standard "snippet"

And they all have a text file icon followed by "Text: "

You're saying they get put into a group called "Standard" Is there anything else in that group If not, could you try deleting it and see what happens

Another thing to try is resetting the toolbox (right-click on it and select "Reset Toolbox").

This is happening to me too, both copying and cutting. The snippet goes into the last tool group I used. Four others in my group have the same setup I do, but are not having this issue.

i've reset the toolbox countless times..

and it always keeps happening..

I've tried to see if the short cut in the settings is set.. but it's not..

it's so annoying..

Does it still happen if you copy from the Output Window instead of an editor window How about if you copy from the Task List or Error List

Do you have any third-party add-ins or macros installed

Thanks,

-Josh

Re: Visual Studio Extensibility Copy command copies to toolbox

it doesn't matter where I press CTRL+C from. The aspx editor (Design and Source) and the .vb editor.. anything I highlight and press CTRL-C for.. it says "Toolbox Item(s) Added" at the bottom left of the window.

As for add-ins or macros.. I've got nothing in my Add-In Manager..

Here's an image of what my toolbox looks like: Link

Please try the following:

1. Shut down VS.

2. del /ah "%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\VisualStudio\8.0\*.tbd"

3. Restart VS.

Let me know whether that fixes it.

Thanks!

Re: Visual Studio Extensibility Copy command copies to toolbox

so far.. that did the trick..

nothing goes into the toolbox now when I press CTRL+C .. (which is a VERY good thing)

I hate to be so quick to say that it's fixed.. but it looks that way..

thanks a lot.. this has been bugging me forever..

Great, I'm glad it helped. In case you're interested, here's what I think happened. In addition to its normal functions, the toolbox manages something called the "clipboard ring", which maintains a history of items you've cut/copied and allows you to cycle through them. Normally these items are kept in a separate toolbox group which is permanently hidden from view. Somehow that group got deleted from your toolbox, so the copied items started going into the active group instead.

I'm not sure how your toolbox got into this state, but I'll see if I can add a check to make sure we re-create the clipboard ring group if it gets deleted. (I can't promise this fix will go into VS 2008, because the bar is rising as we get closer to RTM, but I'll try.)

Thanks again for your feedback.

Re: Visual Studio Extensibility Copy command copies to toolbox

Hey Josh,

I tried to fix my tool bar by doing what you said, and so far looks ok.

I have some info that may help you however, if I remember correctly this problem of the "clipboard ring" group started when I watched the tutorials on AJAX, and the guy said you could "drag and drop" code into the toolbar to save time and instead of copy/pasting. Once there, one would simply drag and drop it back the text into the editor. I'm pretty sure this is when the problems started. Maybe dragging text into the toolbar isn't the best thing. Maybe it just needs a new group.

Hope this helps.

Perhaps you can answer a quick question. I would like to have the AjaxControlToolKit component group always there, but for some reason it keeps disappearing... and I also started to notice that the Solution Explorer and Properties pane on the right hand side, keeps going back to a really small size and VS doesn't seem to want to remember any of these settings on exitting.

Thanks,

Dan.
