I am trying to bring up visual basic 2005 express' "User Interface Editor" so that I can specify how I want the user's installation options to be set up.

I've looked in the help files, as well as googled this. I've found two ways to get to the editor. Either by going to "View", "Editor" while having the solution explorer window selected, or by clickin on an icon on the solution explorer window for the User Interface Editor.

However, looking at the program, I have neither. There is no button for this on the solution explorer window, and no option in the view menu. Can anyone help me

Thanks,

James

Most of our documentation is written for the full version of Visual Studio, not the express versions. When the express versions are created, they reduce the number of commands that are available by default on the command bars to make it easier to use. If you wish to get to these commands, right click on a command bar, select customize, and then search through the resulting dialog box to find the menu item you need. You can drag and drop that menu item onto a command bar.

Hi, thank you for your help. Actually, the icon I am looking for would be on the solution explorer bar. I did try to go through the commands, but could not find the one I am looking for. What I am trying to do is change the setup interface so that the user can decide where the program installs to. Thanks again for your help.

With more research, it looks like you have to create a deployment project that you add to your current project. However, I do not have the template for this. I have templates for 'Windows Application', 'Class Library', 'Console Application', 'My Movie Collection', and 'Screen Saver'. Does anyone know how to download the deployment project template I've looked everywhere, but the only thing Microsoft will tell you what it does. They do not say where to download it from. This is extremely frustrating. Thanks again!

Did you ever get an answer to this I have failed to solve this, and like you want to add this option to my program deployment.

I'm not sure I'm following what the problem is here.

Are you attempting to create a new Setup project The wizards/templates for Setup and Deployment type projects are included under the "Other Project Types" category.

When you invoke the New Project dialog, there's a treeview on the left that contains a number of different categories. If "Other Project Types" doesn't show up there, it might be due to the Visual Studio profile you selected, or possibly the version of Visual Studio you installed.

The project templates themselves reside under the ....\Common7\Tools\Deployment\VsdProjects directory. If this directory doesn't exist, then I suspect the version of VS you installed doesn't include them. If there are files under this directory, you might want to switch your Visual Studio profile to something like "General" using the "Import and Export Settings..." command under the "Tools" menu.

Sincerely,

Many thanks. It looks like the Express edition does not support this. I neither get 'other project types' on New Project, nor can see any other directory in \Common7\Tools\ other than \VDT

I appreciate your help. Mike

Hi,

Yes, it looks like our version just does not support this. Thanks for all of the help, though. I think we just need the paid version of visual studio, maybe.
