Hi,

I'm having the following problem. We have Team Foundation Server running in two separate servers. SQL Database Sever is running on one macine (tfs-data) and SQL Analysis Services are running in another (tfs-app). The error I'm getting is that the Warehouse cannot be updated because Analysis Services is looking for the cub.xml file in its oun C:\ drive rather than in the C:\ drive of the tfs-data server.

Here's the error from the logs:

Could you connect to Analysis Services on your Data Tier and right click on the server This would open the Analysis Server Properties UI, in the General tab, you should see a row with "DataDir". Could you ensure that the right path is specified

Thanks,
Othmane

Hi Leo, Is this still an issue Please let us know!

Hi,

I have the exact same issue.

The DataDir path is correct as suggested in your earlier post. The weird thing is that the folder TFSWarehouse.0.db does not exist on my server. The folder C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.2\OLAP\Data\ exists.

The Foundation Server and the Data tier are on the same server in my setup.

Just to add that this problem has started occurring only after installing SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2.

Could you try the steps in this post: http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx PostID=317697&SiteID=1

Re: Team Foundation Server - Reporting & Warehouse TFS Warehouse cannot access Cub.XML file

Kalim_a

Sorry for double post! I posted this accidently in the other thread you referenced to.

Hi,

Thanks, but it did not solve my issue.

I was unable to install the hotfix KB914595 as it is service pack 2, see http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx PostID=1217827&SiteID=1 (albeit SP1 was installed on Rob_p's server on that thread)

I recieved errors in running the setupwarehouse command in Step 2 of rebuilding the cube

I tried the recommended method:-

setupwarehouse -o -s ServerName -d TFSWarehouse -c warehouseschema.xml -a TFSServiceAccount -ra TFSReportAccount

and recieved the following error:-

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation Server\Tools>setupwarehouse -o -s vsts-tfs -d TFSWarehouse -c warehouseschema.xml -a TFSService -ra TFSReports
An unexpected error occurred when connecting to the Analysis Server. Check that your Analysis Server is up and you have sufficient privileges on it: File system error: Error opening file;
\\ \C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.2\OLAP\Data\TFSWarehouse.0.db\Team System.0.cub.xml is not a disk file or file is not accessible.

I tried the orignal post's method:-

Run the setupWarehouse command from the application tier:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation Server\Tools\Setupwarehouse.exe -o -mturl
http://<APP_TIER>:8080 -c warehouseschema.xml -s <DATA_TIER> -d TfsWarehouse -a <DOMAIN>\<SERVICE_ACCOUNT> -ra <DOMAIN>\<REPORTING_ACCOUNT>

<APP_TIER> is the name of the app tier server.
<DATA_TIER> is the name of the data tier server
<DOMAIN>\<SERVICE_ACCOUNT> is the account used for TFS Services (set in your domain)
<DOMAIN>\<REPORTING_ACCOUNT is the account used for TFS Reporting (set in your domain)

and recieved the following:-

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation Server\Tools>Setupwarehouse.exe -o -mturl http://vsts-tfs:8080 -c warehouseschema.xml -s vsts-tfs -d TfsWarehouse -a teamdev\TFSService -ra teamdev\TFSReports An unexpected error occurred when connecting to the Analysis Server. Check that your Analysis Server is up and you have sufficient privileges on it: Authentication failed.

Both occured while I was logged in as TFSSETUP (the setup account). I believe my accounts are correctly setup.

I tried running cmd as Administrator as a test and recieved

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation Server\Tools>Setup
warehouse.exe -o -mturl
http://vsts-tfs:8080 -c warehouseschema.xml -s vsts-tfs
-d TfsWarehouse -a teamdev\TFSService -ra teamdev\TFSReports
An unexpected error occurred: TF30063: You are not authorized to access VSTS-TFS.

Please advise

Thanks,

Kalim

Re: Team Foundation Server - Reporting & Warehouse TFS Warehouse cannot access Cub.XML file

Othmane Rahmouni-MSFT

Hi Kalim,

Just to double check, did you backup and then delete the C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.2\OLAP\Data folder before running SetupWarehouse

Did you try manually processing the cube using SQL Management Studio

Thanks,

Othmane

Re: Team Foundation Server - Reporting & Warehouse TFS Warehouse cannot access Cub.XML file

Kalim_a

Hi

Thanks for getting back Othmane.

I did backup the Data folder before running setupwarehouse.exe

As for processing the cube, I cannot see any databases when I connect to Analysis Services in Studio Manager.

The folder TFSWarehouse.0.db does not exist on my server.

The problem only started after installing SQL Server SP2.

Please advise.

Thanks,

Kalim

Re: Team Foundation Server - Reporting & Warehouse TFS Warehouse cannot access Cub.XML file

Kalim_a

Any idea guys

Re: Team Foundation Server - Reporting & Warehouse TFS Warehouse cannot access Cub.XML file

Kalim_a

I believe I have managed to fix it!!

Weird it may sound but I think it was due to the controller services. I Unblocked it and then ran the following command to rebuild.

setupwarehouse -o -s vsts-tfs -d TFSWarehouse -c warehouseschema.xml -a TFSService -ra TFSReports

It completed succesfully and created the folder C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.2\OLAP\Data\TFSWarehouse.0.db

It also created the database and I am able to connect to the analysis database!

All seems well at the momment.

Thanks for the help guys.
