    - Project references I have a custom project type and i am having some trouble with adding references to other projects in the solution to my custom project. The problem is if i have a project (say a console app c#) and i add a new instance of my custom project to the solution and reference the original console app it all works fine. However if i do it the other way round, ie have a solution with my custom project in it and then add an existing project to it and try and reference it, the reference doesnt work and in the properties of the reference i have: "Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt. visual studio references" as the path. I have also noticed this is true with the nested project example and (i think) the iron python one too.     - SP1 upgrades only Developer edition not Team Explorer I have an issue on my build box where we've upgraded to SP1 but only the Dev edition is upgraded, the Team Explorer version is not. I tried running the installer many times and each time it says it was seccussful to in enu sp1 for Developer Edition, but Team Explorer is never upgraded nor am I asked to upgrade it durring be install. Any ideas on how to fix this I need to be able to build with SP1 dlls, I am running into some errors that are fixed in SP1. When I build and run on my box which has team Explorer SP1 all is good but as soon as I use Teambuild and the our build box the app fails.     - Installing Visual Studio SP1 on Windows Vista Hi, I'm installing Visual Studio 2005 Standard on Windows Vista Business. This is a clean install of the operating system, and on my prior installation, VS2005SP1 installed perfectly. However, now, I'm having an issue when I try to install VS2005SP1. It seemingly doesn't do anything. It will go through the installer, even asking me to accept the agreement, then upon completion will go away, as normal. There's no indication that the install completed. Then, when I go to install the VS2005 Vista patch, I get the following error: "The upgrade patch cannot by installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch." The two files I'm using are VS80sp1-K 926601-X86-ENU and VS80sp1-KB932232-X86-ENU Any assistance on installing these files would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!     - what is the different Hello! I need a complex build system so I have modified Microsoft.TeamFoundation.Build.targets on my own. Now it consists of to parts CoreCompile and Compile where in CoreCompile I have solution for common libraries which later is referenced in complex target Compile. Target Compile consists of other msbuild target files where I have defined different options for solutions. Everything were ok while I`ve been testing my build from commandline. There problems have started when I patched server build. The build is compiling like I wanted to and build output and storing on build drop locations is fine but theres a problem with build report. When I run build the build steps is shown like this: Initializing Build Getting Sources Getting list of changesets... Copying binaries to drop location Copying log files to drop location Failed I have no errors found on my build log file but report thinks that build is failed. And where is Compile build steps I can`t find nowhere the perequisites for build programming to integrate with TFS build system. Help!     - Unable to uninstall Trial version of VS 2005 Professional I have the trial version of VS 2005 Professional installed on my PC. The trial period has ended and now I want to install my fully licensed VS 2005 Standard . During my attempts at installing VS 2005 Standard I experience the following: Upon opening VS Standard, VS Pro Trial opens, instead, with the message that the trial has ended, please upgrade. When I try to uninstall VS Pro Trial, it fails. The first time I tried uninstalling it, the uninstall process hung for over two hours, so terminated it and restarted my PC. During the second attempt, the uninstall failed because an .msi file was missing. I tried to re-install the product (VS Pro Trial) in order to get all the files back, but I was unable because the previous install of the trial was detected (with the message, "please uninstall" before re-installing. I tried removing all references to VS from the Registry as well as all the files, then rebooting. The install still detected the previous version of VS Pro Trial. I restored the registry and all removed files and did a system restore to the point prior to all the above events. Upon attempting the VS Pro Trial uninstall, the process failed during the component loading: "A problem has been encountered while loading the setup components. Cancelling setup." I tried installing VS Standard, again. Again, it installed but VS Pro Trial opens, instead with, again, the "trial period has terminated." How can I get my licensed VS 2005 installed I'm going around in circles. If I could uninstall the expired VS Pro Trial, I should be able to install my VS Standard.     - Team Build producing PDB files despite Release Mode Configuration Build Hi All, I have a Web Application Project built with Web Deployment Project and another web service project being built via Team Build. How come when building in Release mode there are pdb's still generated for some projects and not for all My WAP or Web Service projects generates a PDB. I don't really understand this logic.     - Work Item optional AllowedValues Hi, I have added a 'Requested by' field to my task items in tfs and added [Global]\Submitters as a list item. this is a group that contains users from our network domain list. This was working fine for us until a couple of people left the organisation and then if we tried to change work items where one of these people was in the 'requested by' field, it wouldn't let us save as that user no longer existed in the group.     - Reverse Engineering C# projects Hello, I'm trying to reverse engineer a UML model from my very large solution and it's not working. I'm hoping someone reading this can help. I've got a solution with 170+ projects. Three are C++ projects, the others C#. I've got all but 9 C# projects unloaded. I select the solution node in the solution explorer, then select Project->Visio UML->Reverse Engineer. DevStudio says it completed, Visio starts, but all I get is an empty UML model. Below is the output window results: Performing pass number: 1. Performing pass number: 2. Number of warnings: 0. Exporting UML model to Visio... Reverse engineering succeeded. I'm running DevStudio 2005, and Visio for Enterprise Architects. Some of my projects were created with Whidbey Beta1, others with Beta2. All of my assemblies are strong named. One thing that might be of interest is that all of the projects have file references to the output assemblies of the other projects (for reasons I won't go into now). I'm able to reverse engineer UML models for individual projects, just not the solution as a whole.     - Can't rename the Build Server? We are evaluating whether or not we want to virtualize our build machine or have it as a separate piece of hardware. We created a new build server on vmware named ServerB. We changed a single build type that used to run on ServerA, to run on ServerB just to make sure we were comparing apples to apples when measuring the performance delta. That worked. Convinced that ServerB, the vmware machine, was 'fast enough' we decided to decommision ServerA. We renamed ServerB to ServerA so we wouldn't have to change all our builds. Our network admin made sure everything was right on the network, and then we brought the new ServerA up. None of the build scripts, or build types that we'd created worked. We took down the new ServerA, and restored the old ServerA and everything worked. We tried this 3 times with the same result. Googled around to see if anyone else had experienced it and didn't get anything similar to what we've done. We really don't want to have to change all our legacy build scripts.     - Please tell me that this has been solved in SP1... When you try to add a link from a work item to a versioned item in Source Control you may get an error "Unable to save all edited documents..." in Visual Studio. Someone said that this problem corresponds to a limitiation of the numbers of characters you may have in a file path (260 chars) but this happens to us in much shorter paths (around 100 characters).     - Custom Bitmap problem I am pretty sure that this has been asked before but I have been stuck on this for a while. I am moving an add-in to VS Package. The problem is that if I use the default bitmap strip the icons on the tools menu show up. If I change the id to point to the custom bitmap strip (in resource.h) the custom icons do not display.     - How to I search for files changed since check-in?? I performed an initial check-in of several thousand files all under one folder which represented a project. Here it is 3 months later and now I want to see only the files that have changed since the initial check-in. How do I do that Using history I can see all the changesets but I want a list of files changed without duplicates.     - Crystal Report problem I'm trying to get a crystal report to view in a webform using an SQL server, but keep getting a log on error, despite following the tutorial. I searched for the answer and read through 10 pages, but I still can't figure it out. I'm trying to use integrated security (I left out my pw and userid on here, but its in the actual code).     - No online MSDN links when using proxy server hi, I noticed that Sandcastle doesn't generate online msdn-links when the internet connection is through a proxy server. --- copy from email to Eric Woodruff --- I did some investigation on the ResolveReferenceLinksComponent2 component stored in the BuildComponents.dll assembly. I noticed that the MSDNResolver that was internally being used by this component uses a ContentService (which inherits from SoapHttpClientProtocol) that had no proxy support (although it supports a proxy, the proxy wasn't set) The problem with the online MSDN links only occurred when I have my PC connected at a customers network that uses proxy settings to connect over the internet. At other networks (without any proxy settings) everything works out fine.     - Passing Parameters to Stored Procedure in Report I have created a non-embbeded crystal report in VS2005 that calls a stored procedure. The procedure needs an input parameter. As usual, the report's parameter has the same name as that of the stored procedure i.e. @ParaOne. In my code I pass a value to parameter @ParaOne but the program complains that the stored procedure's parameter has not been assigned a value. Please, assist me on how I can get the procedure fired up.     - Can't open document from TFVC After installing several things related to WPF (e.g. Microsoft Windows SDK v6, VS2005 extensions for .Net 3.0) I can no longer open document files (e.g. Word, Excel) in Source Control Explorer by double-clicking them, or by right-clicking and choosing "View". I now have to go to Windows Explorer to open them. Since installing the products mentioned above, I've reinstalled VS2005 SP1 but the problem still exists. Dear ViewState:

The TFS can be used with MS Project 2007 and MS Excel 2007 to manage the team project. But I have not found any information about how to integrate TFS with other IDE or technologies as PHP etc. You need to find a 3rd party component.

The Eclipse IDE also supports Java projects, Ruby, Embedded development etc. Additionally tools like the Adobe Flex 2 flash IDE are also based on Eclipse and the Teamprise plug-in works well with them.

It does not have to be integrated. As long I can do source control and project management, is fine. The tool currently used for PH is Zend.
