hi to all, I've installed on my desk VS2005 Pro and the SP1 Beta.

now that SP1 was finally release, i tried to install but it tell me that my VS2005 version isn't right to apply SP1.

I think it's depend from SP1 beta installed, so tried to remove but SP1 beta uninstall required VS2005 DVD and I have not the DVD because I installed it from the ISO downloaded from MSDN.

is there any way to uninstall SP1 beta wthout the DVD or is there any way to install SP1 over the SP1 beta

thanks

which version of VS2005 do you have and are you applying the correct SP to it If it exists, tried removing the beta SP1 with a beta removal tool

I have the same problem - I tried to install SP1 final over Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition with SP1 beta, and it didn't work. Is the use of a beta removal tool the only solution for this problem And in this case where can I find such a tool

like i stated, im not sure if one exists - generally there is a beta/CTP removal tool. I'll see what I can find

What you could try:

  1. Reinstall the SP1 Beta if you can't uninstall to begin with (assuming that it is installed)
  2. After the installation, immediatly uninstall it

or

  1. Download and run the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility
  2. Locate the SP1 Beta in the list and click on "Remove", this will remove the setup information from the registry
  3. Install the RTM of SP1

or

  1. Completely uninstall Visual Studio
  2. Reinstall Visual Studio

I am having same problem too.

I am suprised microsoft did not included the uninstall SP1 beta option in the official release.

Had the same problem with VS 2005 SP1. Tried to install SP1 beta earlier but it was taking ages so I canceled, I guess it did not install but left some garbage behind. Yesterday I tried installing SP1 several times, no luck.

After that I was unable to install/repair any existing/new software or sometimes even run the installed one i.e. Office 2k7 TR, VS 2k5 Pro and other non MS-software.

I've uninstalled:
- VS 2k5 Pro
- Net Compact Framework (all versions)
- Net Framework (all versions)

I've run those programs (in order stated below):
- http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/ linkid=47065
- http://blogs.msdn.com/tims/archive/2005/09/20/471815.aspx (cleanup by javascript)

I've done everything mentioned here + removed %windir%\assembly\GAC directory
- http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2005/04/16/408856.aspx

and finally rebooted my pc.

I was able to at least install .Net Framework 2.0 with no errors this time. Now I'll try to install VS 2005 Pro + SP1. Keep your fingers crossed ;)

BTW MS should find a solution to this issue ASAP.

ive just installed it on my production/main machine - no problems what so ever but ive also NOT had the beta installed. I never use beta on production machines as Microsoft also clearly states everytime :-)

I made it ;)

At first VS 2005 Pro gave me some error and the process closed, so I uninstalled XMS Parser (all versions), SSMSEE, SQL 2005 Express, VSS Writer, Native SQL and run installer again.

This time it worked like a charm ;) I hope there will be some simpler method to do it right, soon.

You can uninstall the VS2005 SP1 Beta in the Add/Remove programs utility in XP. Just make sure you've checked the "Show Updates" box. By uninstalling that and the Web Applications Project, the installation worked fine.

Re: Visual Studio Setup and Installation VS2005 SP1

ahmedilyas

that's true but remember, the beta and CTP products still leave some thing behind even after uninstalling causing the RTM'd versions (or even beta's) to not install correctly

Hi,

The uninstaller is included,

just make sure that you check the box for "Show Updates" in the add/remove programs dialog.

all the updates will show up, inlcuded those to visual studio.

you can now proceed to remove the sp1 beta.

I hope this help you.

antonio.

Yes, you can. Heath Stewart blogged about this a couple of days ago:
