Is it me or is there no help for the Power Tools I've seen the stuff on Gert's blog, but how do I use the new MSBuild tasks for example

There was a brief word doc that was supposed to be included with the power tools. Let me check and see if it's on the download page or if it's part of the setup. Hoping that it wasn't forgotten. If it was, I'll get the contents posted here as a temporary solution.

Okay, the docs -are- installed, as a pdf, when you install the power tools. Unfortunately they don't show up on a menu anywhere, so you need to know to look for them. You'll find them in [Program Files]\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\DBPro\PowerTools. It's the only PDF file, and it's got a very long name that's hard to miss Smile.

Let me know if you have trouble finding it.

thanks,

The Power Tools.PDF explains how to compare schemas between two live databases. What is the syntax to compare schemas between a database and a DBPro project I have looked at Microsoft.VisualStudio.TeamSystem.Data.PowerTools.Tasks.xsd recommended by document but did not find any property that can be used to declare a DBProd project within a MSBuild task command.

Thanks,

Unfortunately, I don't think that is a supported scenario with the power tools. Let me ping one of the developers to verify (the person that created the power tool is out on vacation this week).

Unfortunately, I've confirmed. We do not yet support comparing a database to a project using the MSBuild task. Going forward, we know it's an important scenario, but it was not one we could fit into the time we had to create this first set of power tools.

I would expect that this is a scenario that we would want to support as we look forward, but I can't give you any specific timeframe at this point.

I am sorry that I did not have better news for you on this.

thanks,

Stevn is right this is not supported, this will be added in a future release of the Power Tools.
