We have a user that is the administrator for a team project. He can access the source code and can run team builds generated for his project. The login issue arises when he attempts to access the Sharepoint site for the team project. When he right-clicks on the team project name and selects Show Portal Site, a login dialog pops up populated with TFSservername\username and not the typical domainname\username.

tfs_server01\joe123 instead of company_domain\joe123

He cannot access the site unless he changes the login to domainname\username and enters the correct password.

The build log file issue occurs both within Visual Studio and if attempting to access the build log from within the Sharepoint site. When he clicks on the link to the build log file, he receives an error denying access to the file. I suspect this is also related to the issue as stated above.

When the problem was first discovered and we couldn't solve it, we had the user's machine re-imaged. The problem repeated. We thought it might be related to Visual Studio and Team Explorer being installed by an account with admin access on his machine and not his regular user account. We removed all and reinstalled after granting hsi account admin rights. The problem was again seen. We had him clear his cookies and the next time he tried accessing the Sharepoint site from within Visual Studio, the login dialog did not pop up and he was able to access the site. The next time he opened Visual Studio and tried to access the site, the problem appeared again.

Any suggestions on how to solve this We are stumped.

Thanks!

Stephen

Re: Team Foundation Server - General Sharepoint Site Login Issue and Build Log File Access Issue

Hi Stephen,

I have a few questions:

1. Can this user launch IE and navigate to the WSS site Does that give him the same problem

2. Does the user have permissions on the WSS site itself TFS will not automatically propagate permissions to the site.

3. Do you get a red 'x' on the Documents node in the Team Explorer If not, can you open documents from the Documents Node

Thanks!

1. Yes, if he launches the site by using the bookmark in Favorites, without VS open, the same thing happens.

2. Yes, he has full Administrator privileges on the WSS site itself and on the Report site as well

3. No, he has not red X's on any of the folders

Here is some more information:

1. When he launches Visual Studio, and clicks on the Team Explorer tab, he is prompted to login with the same login dialog issue TFSservername/username

2. If he right clicks on the Reports folder and select the option to go to the Report site, the same dialog issue occurs.

3. If he then changes the dialog to domainname\username and logs in, the site opens; if he then right clicks on the team project name and opens the Sharepoint iste, it opens without the dialog; if he shuts down Visual Studio and launches it again, issue 1 here again occurs.

4. issue 3 here is repeated if he does the reverse, Sharepoint site first, report site second.

Continued thanks!

Stephen

Hi Stephen,

Interesting. Have you checked the "Stored User Names and Passwords" in the Control Panel Make sure there isn't an entry for your server there or it will always try to use that username/password to start with...

I checked and there are no listings at all in the Stored User Names and Passwords control panel on the server.

What's next

Sorry for the delay in replying. The issue no longer occurs. However, we are not certain why that it no longer happens. I guess this is one of the those that we will chalk up to life in the computing world unless it occurs again. Thanks for checking up though!!
