    - Visual Studio just trashed my toolstrips!! Yes I suppose this is what I will have to do. It's a shame VS doesn't do this automatically, considering that the "bug" is well known. The problem as I see it stems from the extremely complex system of generating source code, as opposed to storing the visual information in its own format. Perhaps WPF will be more to my tastes in this regard. I've decided to redesign my form from scratch, which will take a bit of work, but at least it will be clean.     - IndexOutOfRangeException on DataGridView I don't believe so, I can physically see my datagridview refresh every 5 seconds. I made a couple changes that seem to help, but I still recieve this error randomly when I click on the control. If it just idle's and recieves the refresh, I don't get any errors. I want to be able to easily replace the "person" and have the firstName/lastName update on the form (as well as have the user be able to change them from the form).     - works on VS2005 Machines and does not work on NON VS2005 machines i am sorry the msgbox i forgot was in there. i put that in there to make sure the error was coming from the tcItemMaintenance. i originally thought it was the tabPages collaction also the problem is trying to debug it. when i run in on any machine VS it works the tcItemMaintenance is created, there are 8 tabs in the collection. but needless to say the msg box is where the error happens now that was just a testing line of code. it is definitly the tcITemmaintenance Control. Now what is happening. i did as u suggested and put in if tcitemmaint is nothing then block so it will skip that section of code, but as soon as it gets to the next control the same thing happens. the next control is a combobox it has the same nullreference error. even though all these controls are added during design to time can i recreate them during runtime with causing duplicates and errors all over the place Or is there something all together going on here i have never seen anything like this before. This would be a cool trick to get working so I ditched what I did and tried out Ken's example. Here's a couple of pointers based on a sample application using two columns... First of all you want to make sure your grid uses columns that fill the grid. If the column sizes don't fill the grid you paint onto the grids background and it looks odd. Of course you could build the ability to give the painted rectangle an aspect ratio depending on the size of all displayed columns. I found it easier, in my two column sample, to just set the columns to auto fit the grid. But it's something to watch out for. You also need to set the template cells background colour to transparent otherwise when the cells are painted they will over paint your progress rectangle with white and it doesn't work. Because you do that you need to paint the remaining rectangle, for example if you paint 10% in red for one row then you need to paint the other 90% in white or other colour. In my example this was the reason for auto fitting the columns, just made drawing easier. If you went for an aspect ratio then you'd have to calculate sizes of rectangles. I am getting the "dfsvc.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close" error when trying to install a clickonce app for a user that does not have admin rights. It works fine for admin users. I know other people have had this issue but I have not seen a clear cut solution. Does anyone know what is going on. Also, is there a log file that might have more information.

I checked the event viewer on the machine and I see .Net errors with the following text:

I noticed another thing. When logged in as the non-admin user, I can't see the following path:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Deployment.

Should the normal user see that Path

I thought I would post the result if anyone else has the issue. It looks like the non-admin user did not have read/write access to the following key.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Deployment
