    - datagridview - testing values of an unbound column Hi there. I have a datagridview that I populate via a table adapter and everything is working just fine. Now i'd like to give the user the option of: selecting multiple records in the grid by checking a checkbox. this checkbox is available for each row of data and i created it by adding an unbound column. What i'd like to do is enable a button on the same form only if one or more records have been selected by the user. how do i do this I was thinking about using the event: Private Sub DataGridView1_CellContentClick( ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.DataGridViewCellEventArgs) Handles DataGridView1.CellContentClick End Sub but this event can potentially be fired many times and for any column that's selected. And in one column i want to have different type of cells (hosting different editing controls). For example, in the same column first cell shall host a combo box control, second cell shall host a text box control, third cell shall host DateTime picker control, another with Colorpicker control, etc. if i follow the host controls in windows forms Datagridview cell and c urrently if i change the cellTemplate property of DataGridViewColumn to calendarcell, then all the cells in that column become calendar cell.     - Removing multiple items in a ListView "at the same time" Hi all, Suppose we have 5 items in the ListView: "Alpha", "Bravo", "Charlie", "Delta" and "Echo". When we execute RemoveAt(0) followed by another RemoveAt(0), the first two items got removed. If we execute RemoveAt(0) followed by RemoveAt(1), "Alpha" and "Charlie" got removed. What I want to achieve is: I can multi-select items in the ListView to decide which items i'd like to delete. For example, I select "Alpha" and "Delta", so the index 0 and 3 are stored in SelectedIndexCollection. Then I enumerate this collection to delete these two in one run. At this time, if I run RemoveAt(0) first, the index of "Delta" will be changed to 2. I now want to lock individual controls on the form depending on conditions. I have an image cell(whenever required) which is needed to display the image as a thumbnail. I want to display a description next to the image.     - Usefullness of any event Rofl... You won't let this one go eh Data-binding exposes all evils in the world. I still avoid it. VB was a brilliant tool. Simple and effective. Unfortunately that wasn't enough for many people & projects, they expected too much of it so developers had to invest lots of time and experimentation to learn it's quirks and work-around its limitations. "Hardcore Visual Basic". .Net (VB.Net & C#) is an evolution of VB in the sense that Microsoft has gone and tried to develop a framework to abstract the muck that has become the Windows Kernel. It's a framework now rather than a development tool wrapping COM. This gives developers more power than they had with VB, along with a bundle of new tricks. (Serialization, security, XML, threading, globalization, etc.) The fact is it's still built upon the same kludge that is Windows so don't be surprised when something happens that doesn't seem logical. I don't remember the exact quote but it's along the lines of " If you get nervous every time the universe does something that doesn't make sense, you're going to be nervous every day until the day you die." It absolutely matters where the code is placed :) This "this" pointer only works in instance methods, and the code I provided will only work if that instance method is on your form class. If you want to change the content of a text box from a global function, a reference to the form must be stored in a global location and the text box field must have public or internal access.     - Using the Windows password in my application I have a WinForms C# application for which I currently have two methods of login - either the user enters their password when they log in, which I store in my SQL 2005 db encrypted, or I just let them in based on their windows login id. In both cases I do not ask for a username, I get this from their Windows network login. What I would like to do is something that I have seen other applications (Lotus Notes) do. If your application password is the same as your windows password, it just lets you in, but if they are different then you must enter the application password. I am not worried about the db login, just the application login. I have been searching for an example of this, but I have not had any luck. If this question has been already asked and answered, my apologies, but please point me in the right direction. Later I will need to do the same thing in an asp.net application, but right now my problem is only winforms. Any help would be appreciated.     - Dump controles to image /saving to image I have a SplitContainer with two custom controls in it, what I'd like to do is to dump the whole thing to an image, like if you take a screenshot and cut away all but the SplitContainer. I've read somewhere that you could do something like this by creating an image and the get an Graphics object from the image and let the controls draw on that. I understand that since the SplitContainer is a standard control this might not be possible, but I can change the two controls if necessary, just as long as I can find a way to specify where the controls will draw on the image. My problem is that after looking at System.Drawing.Image and not having found any way to get a Graphics objects from I'm not sure where to start, so any pointers, example, or such would be much appreciated. After the DataError occurs, if you set e.Cancel to true, the focus will keep in DataGridView, so the button cannot get the focus to trigger the click, while a toolstrip does not need focus.     - Need Help with Variables and Databinding I am creating an application that provides a full-text search on a db. The full-text search works fine and loads some brief descriptive data into DataGridView1. The user then selects a row and the SectionText column of text is loaded into DisplayTextBox. I make two calls to the db to speed it up. The SectionText column can be several pages long and slows the search down significantly so I bring back only what is need on the second call. At this point I need help with two problems: Problem #1. Transferring string data from the DataGridView1 (Record1 & Record2). If I put these variables into Textbox3 and TextBox5 and then use that in the WHERE clause, it works but is clumsly. I would prefer to work directly with these variables if I can get the syntax right. Is there any way to bind the menustrip control to a XML file so it loads its items on runtime similar to the TreeView on ASP.NET

You would probably have to add the items individually; then you are also stuck creating the events for them too. At least with a treeview you can have one procedure to process the selection based on the selected node. I am not aware that the menustrip has this capability.
