    - Looking for best approach for MSMoney Look-A-Like [VB] If you're familiar with MS Money; I am developing an application that has the look and feel of Money but different functionality. How do they do it or what is the best approach. I've read several ideas, but before I start I wanted to get additional feedback: The concept: A Customer button that opens a customer "home" page with customer specific tasks located in the spine with the results displayed in the window to the right. A Reports button that opens a Reports "home" page, again functioning the same as above. There will be several of this "pages"... I've thought of using the MDI/Child approach but the number of panes used in each group became difficult to manage. I've thought of the SDI approach, but again, the number of panes was way to complex to manage and the performance wasn't great. So, the latest I've heard and I think I would like to understand better is creating individual controls (Customers, Contacts, Reports, etc...) Then each of these controls would consist of several panes based upon the options available in the spines of each component. Does any of this make sense Any help/ideas is appreciated.     - UpdateCommand in GridView Why do I need do specifify updatecommand for some gridviews/datasources and not all havent done this for most of my gridviews and they work fine, updating back to the sql database. But for one datagridview it demands and updatecommand or otherwise i get an expception. All Datagridviews are addedd in the same way and all of them for really simple tables, no fancy sql, just show everything from a table.     - Visual Studio just trashed my toolstrips!! I deleted a resource that I (thought I) wasn't using and all of a sudden visual studio craps out some message boxes telling me all it can't find a certain file, etc, and it wouldn't shut up so i put the file back into the resources directory manually and it finally stopped beeping at me, but when I went back to my form, my menu strip, tool strip and context strip were all empty! I checked the .Designer.cs file and all of the definitions for the items were still there, but all of the AddRange()s were gone! This is unbelievably frustrating, my file is a complete mess now because I've had to go back and manually create these AddRange() calls, and half of the 20 or so toolstrip separators i don't know where they should go so most of them are just floating around; i had to create new ones and now i have a lot of garbage. Anyway is this a known problem I think it has happened to me before on a smaller scale. I was wondering are there any utilities for cleaning up a .Designer file It seems to me they can get awfully messy with control defs that aren't even used anymore and unbound defs.     - IndexOutOfRangeException on DataGridView Cory, I am getting the same exception, its also driving me nuts. I have a datagridview bound to a bindingsource with a filter set. I have managed to narrow my error down to my rowvalidating event handler. for some reason if i add a row to the end of the datagridview (when bound to filtered data) i get this exception. You can cath it in you dataerror handler and discard to stop users seeing it but im not sure if it has any adverse effects and i would like to get to the bottom of it. One other thing is that when adding a row to the end of my filtered datagridview the validation handler fires once and no exception occurs. I then fires a second time and thats when i get this exception. I cant really see many similarities between what you are doing and what I am doing other than the fact that we both try and access the current row in one of our handlers. This seems pretty random to me, perhaps this error is hiding some deeper problem but i havent got to the bottom of it yet.     - How to get my app on top of all others. Me .BringToFront() Me .TopMost = True Neither of these do what I need to do. I have written a printer monitor that forces a user to enter authentication before printing is allowed. It works just fine except for a small detail, that I've had trouble with before. I am unable to get the authentication form to appear on top of all forms (not just the cuurent app). This is an absolute must. I've looked and search, and the closest I've come is a suggestion that somehow I access the notify Windows to put my app on top of all others, and short of resorting to an API call, I can't find a way to do this within .NET.     - BUG: TabPage not resizing/repainting properly The code generated by vs2005 is different to that which you posted, the event handlers are automatically added and in a different place (i assume that you just showed the relavent parts ) I downloaded a copy of c# express and installed it on an old machine and the same problems occur there as well, I thought it may have had something to do with my graphics drivers but seemingly not. One thing i found, if you change UseVisualStyleBackColor to false, then the problems go away, but you end up with no visual styles :( The problem is also there if you use a panel, then a splitter and then just a tabcontrol, dock set to fill. Not sure exactly what you wanted an image of, the code or the tabcontrol. It seems easily enough to duplicate it in code.     - Programmatically Changing Control Properties Here's the problem. I have a panel with 50 input controls of one type or another, each with an associated text descriptor. On validation I need to check each one of those inputs to ensure that they contain data, if one is empty I need to highlight the corresponding text. Each text control has the same name as the input control preceded by an x eg xfld1 --> fld1. Is there any way I can loop through the input controls such that if it is empty I can highlight the corresponding text: Conceptually the code would be something along the following lines:- foreach (input) { if (input.Text == "") { xinput.Backcolor = color.red; } } The only 2 ways I've found of achieving the requirement are either to re-declare every control as an array and iterating through the array (this is a bit complex with multiple input types) or individually checking every input control (VERY tedious).     - dfsvc.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close I am getting the "dfsvc.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close" error when trying to install a clickonce app for a user that does not have admin rights. It works fine for admin users. I know other people have had this issue but I have not seen a clear cut solution. Does anyone know what is going on. Also, is there a log file that might have more information.     - works on VS2005 Machines and does not work on NON VS2005 machines below i have a sub and the error that is generated when it runs on certain computers. i dont understand why on one machine the sub would generate an NullReference to tcItemMaintenance and when others run the same code it is fine.     - App continues to stay highlighted as a Newly Installed Program after installed with ClickOnce Thanks, Peter, I appreciate the response. The question remains: why do applications installed with ClickOnce STAY highlighted, even after repeated use, while programs installed with other types of installers (InstallShield, for example) don't What does XP check to see whether or not the application has been used What tells XP to turn off the highlight I'm guessing there is something in the group/shortcuts that ClickOnce creates that is NOT in sync (i.e., a missing setting or configured incorrectly) with what XP needs to identify the app has been used and then turn off the highlighting I know this is a nit, but when a customer is installing the application and having this problem, they think it's our application causing the problem, not XP, so it's not a nit to them. Do me a favor: create a "Hello World" app, install it with ClickOnce and bring it up in XP using the Regular XP Start Menu (not the Classic Menu) and tell me what you see. Try doing it a couple times with different sample apps you create and see if the highlighting goes away for any of those installed with ClickOnce after you run them. Maybe it's an XP problem, but as far as I can see, it's only manifested when using ClickOnce install.     - Two Binding Navigators on a Single Form? Hello. I've been trying to create a tiny application which will access a certain MS Access database and supply interfaces for editing and viewing the data on it. I attempted to use a tabbed interface for no particular reason. Every tab will contain text fields and other input tools to recieve or view data of a particular table. I add my data source, change the table to 'Details', change the fields to what I want them to be where text fields would be cumbersome, and finally drag it to the first tab. The DataSet, BindingSource, TableAdapter and BindingNavigator are successfully added to the form and the fields are visible. After making the necessary formatting changes, I loaded the other tab, and attempted to do the same things for another table. Here is the problem: A Binding Navigator did not appear this time. The fields and labels successfully appear and the related code is added to the designer, however without a Binding Navigator they are useless. I am using .NET 2.0, and Visual Basic Express. The cause of this problem seems to be trying to use more than one table on a single form. Will I have to give up on the tabbed interface and use buttons (or a similar interface) to switch forms instead, or is there a workaround which does not involve coding in a BindingNavigator manually I will, if I must, however I'd like to see a tutorial on applying a BindingNavigator if that is your suggestion.     - display ascii art in a textbox or richtextbox or whatever? hi, i'm trying to write a program with C#. it should display ascii art. i tried to read in a ascii-art-file and display it in a textbox. first problem, the encoding... it replaced the special chars with questionmarks, i solved this by using Encoding.Default. works well, if i save the text in the textbox back to a file and open it in windows editor everything is fine. now my problem is: those special ascii chars (above 127) are not displayed correctly in the textbox. instead of a black box as it should be i get Os or Us and so on... i already tried different fonts (Lucida Console, Lucida Console ASCII, MSI Console,...) but all with the same result i don't know how to fix this any ideas Gr33tz Tag: Windows Forms Data Controls and Databinding Infopath form fetching data from data server Windows Forms

    - C# treeview scrollbar value I need to get a handle to the C# treeview's scrollbar so that I can set the value programatically. I am attempting to sync two scrolling forms together with one scrollbar. I can get other scrollbars from other various controls like the C# panel but for some reason C# treeviews do not let you get access to thier scrollbars. First of all, you'd normally setup PCs in a network to obtain their time from the domain controller so all PCs in the LAN are in sync with each other. That would allow you to use your local clock. Secondly, PCs rarely drift more than a few seconds per month if for some reason they can't resync their clocks. Refreshing the time from the server every 2 minutes is total overkill, once a day should be fine.     - Partially Colour DataGridViewRow Right here's the situation: I've developed an application which is an electronic shift log for the company I'm working for. At each shift the shop floor guys use my application to log events that happen (various details plus an input time). I use the input time to calculate the duration of each event and I have a total duration for the entire shift. The datagridview displays a single shift with several rows in it (which the duration and total duration have be calculated). What I want to know is if it's possible to partially colour a row depending on what percentage of time it takes up. I.E. Lets say that I have 3 rows in this shift. Row 1: Duration 2 hours Row 2: Duration 3 hours Row 3: Duration 5 hours. Which gives me a total duration of 10 hours. How would I colour the 20% of the first row, 30% of the second and 50% of the third So pretty much it looks like a strange bar chart/progress bar. I have talked about using an actual progress bar in the datagridview but its not what the managers want.
