I have read a few other threads on this issue. (1 2 3 4) These generally cover resolution of the problem rather than prevention.

I have a few ClockOnce deployed applications and sometimes one or more of them won't run, giving the error:

Activation of C:\DOCUME~1\<user>\STARTM~1\Programs\MYAPPL~1\MYAPPL~1.APP resulted in exception. Following failure messages were detected:
+ Value does not fall within the expected range

I can get round this by deleting everything under C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Apps\2.0 but this doesn't help me prevent the issue.

I have read it could be caused if the application has the same version but different content to that on the server but I don't see how it could have got into that state in my circumstances.

I don't want my users' use of this software interrupted - does anyone have any advice as to any measures I can take to avoid this problem in the future

Thanks

James

Re: ClickOnce and Setup & Deployment Projects "Value does not fall within the expected range" - Prevention rather than Resolution desired

Is this likely to be anything to do with using revision numbers as well as build, minor and major That has given me problems with SourceSafe before as well so I'm trying not to use them now and manually incrementing the Build number.

I moved to incrementing the build number manually but I am still seeing this problem all to often.

Does nobody have any suggestions as to how to avoid it other than to use a deployment method other than ClickOnce
