    - Using WebBrowser in a loop I am building a testing tool that will create different scenarios and generate requests to a server, mainly using js. We have been changing manually the html document and opening the doc with a browser (no need for a web server, actually...) Now I want to automate the process and I figured that the WebBrowser Form will be ideal. It sorta works now, but it has drawbacks. This is how it "works" I iterate on the values for the js variable(s) For each iteration, I create an html document and write it to C:\\Inetpub\\wwwroot\\testXX.html the use browser.Navigate("http:\\localhost\testXX.html") This did not behaved as I expected, asi only the last document was executed. I know because I can tell when the server get called by the JS I did a workaround by WebBrowser br = new WebBrowser(); br.Navigate(String.Format("{0}{1}",settings.baseUrl,fileName)); System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(delay); this actually works, but it does them all at the same time at the end of the loop the delay never plays!     - RTF jpegblip and jpeg image are not displayed in RichTextBox Gavin, Thanks for your reply. I saw some solutions like this while researching online. It looks like the solution you posted is using cut/paste to put the image in the RtfTextBox. By default cut/paste in the rtfTextBox stores the image as a WMF file. I would like to store the image as a JPEG. WMF are a lot larger than Jpegs for bitmap pictures. I honestly think this is a limitation in the .net framework for the RichTextBox control, or possibly my syntax for the RTF is incorrect for a jpegblip, and word is more lenient on the syntax. The rtf sample I posted (save the text as an rtf file) will open fine in word2003. But when I "loadfile" in a sample app in c# it displays the text, but no images. The same behavior (text, but no images) can be seen in wordpad. I plan to store the rtfText in a database, so using jpeg images would save alot of space and dramatically decrease load times/network traffic.     - Multiple forms with 1 display at taskbar Hi all, I'm not sure if anyone could understand what I am going to say but I try my best. I having multiple forms which occurs in the following sequence: form1(main) -> form2(login) -> form3(user input action)... I intend to make it such that at any one time, there should be a window display at the taskbar, as the current situation always result in 2 window displays in the taskbar.     - [MSI] - Only deploy a file if it doesn't exist! It's a bit more complicated than an overwrite of that file. RemovePreviousVersions does a complete uninstall of the older version followed by an install of the new version, so looking for it at the start of a new installation doesn't help because it will be there and will be uninstalled. Because Visual Studio setups behave this way, I suggest you create the settings file with a custom action so the uninstall won't remove it. Your code can check if it already exists. Other setup tools let you build patches or otherwise update the existing install without an uninstall, but I think Visual Studio's officially supported upgrade mechanism is RemovePreviousVersions.     - Error installing Winforms 2.0 application with ClickOnce deployment Hi all, I have been getting this same error whilst trying to install the same application on two identical virtual machines (made from a disk image using sysprep), one installs and runs fine the other doesnt. I am installing from a CD built using the VS.NET 2005 publish utility This installs the application fine, but the default action after install is to launch the app which is where it is crashing. Ok, I have some ideas that it is to do with the updates in the .NET configuration as to how it deals with unhandled exceptions as the framework was installed at the same time as my app. I am planning on doing some experiementation checking the .NET config settings and reinstalling .NET framework etc and will keep you guys posted. Following the steps mentioned in http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms973805.aspx#clickoncevsinstaller_topic8 I am able to deploy the windows application using both the technology together. But I have following doubts: 1. How can I auto run the InternetShortcut Url file in MSI, on account of any changes occured to it. I mean if there is change in version (Updation). --- I want to implement the advantages of clickonce through this file as it is pointing to clickonce publish.htm file only. 2. After the installation of application (using modified .msi in ORCA), we get a Internetshortcut url file in the target folder on the client m/c. If we run this internet shortcut url file manually it does open the publish.htm. And from this page when we click on the Install button, it creates (Installs) another instance of the application! --- I don't want to create another instance of the application, it should just install the updates if there is any. Am I skipping any settings in MSI to achieve this Please help me. It would be really appreciated if anybody can give me step by step procedure to combine the best features of MSI and clickonce together. Looking forward to lightening fast responses to this query.     - DecimalTextBox sample I changed it to treat empty string as zero and ignore assignment of bad data. I needed one decimal place with no thousands groups, so I created a custom NumberFormatInfo . I also made it select text on entry so new data replaces the old. This class needs a LOT of work to make it generally useful, but I may be able to get by with my customized version. I like the way it handles the decimal point. The NumberFormatInfo needs to be exposed, or at least the relevant properties of it, and it needs to handle selected text in a reasonable way.     - VS2005 DataGridView I've made some progress with item (2) [insert row and preserve position in a DGV] but can't make it work properly. My questions are on this subject. My RmScheduleDataGridView is bound by RmScheduleBindingSource to my DataSet that has a table RmSchedule with columns ID (primary key), Idx (my position tracker), CatID, JobRefID (filter) and other columns for data of a schedule of rooms in a building. Loading data into the DGV is activated by a ComboBox selection that sorts on column Idx as follows: 'Filter and Sort Ascending using BindingSource on column Idx Dim bs As BindingSource = Me .RmScheduleBindingSource Dim myFilter As String , n As String n = Me .DocRefComboBox.SelectedValue.ToString myFilter = "JobRefID = " & "'" & n & "'" bs.Filter = myFilter bs.Sort = "Idx ASC" At run-time I want to let the user select a row in the DGV and insert a new row above or below the selected row. I tested the AddingNew EventHandler (at the end of the code listing) by attempting to insert the Current Row as the NewRow but I don't know why the stated error is thrown when Exit Sub is commented out. To avoid this, I am using the default constructor for the NewRow, as instructed in Help. 2. Sub InsertRow inserts a new row at the expected location but renumbering Idx is unsuccessful if the user attempts to insert a new NewRow at a position higher in the table than a previously inserted NewRow - see !!! PROBLEM IS HERE!!! and grid views. The problem does not arise when a new NewRow is inserted lower in the table than the previous NewRow, that is, renumbering Idx IS successful if a new NewRow is inserted lower in the table than a previous NewRow. Can someone explain please 3. Towards the end of Sub InsertRow, for debugging purposes I export the List of rows to Excel to check their content in rOriginal and rModified. The [EditorBrowsable(EditorBrowsableState.Never)] is supposed to hide the properties/methods/whatever from IntelliSense. I didn't actually work here, but as I found out on a quick search, it does work on VB.NET IDE but for some reason, C# IDE does not hide it (a bug maybe ), all this in VS 2005 with SP1 + SP1 Update for Vista. Aftet all that, I set the Renderer in the constructor as I did before and all works as expected (besides that little bug). But if anyone has any other suggestions, hints or something, I would like to hear them out. I won't mark your reply as an answer for a few days to see if anyone as any more thoughts on this.     - Splitter Distance Error Thank you for the response. However, this doesn't seem to be the solution to my problem. The SplitContainer.SplitterWidth is set to 5. I tried setting the SplitterDistance value to 50. A value of 50 should more then compensate for the SplitterWidth value, but I still get the error. However, I am not quite sure how the SplitterWidth actually effects the SplitterDistance value. The error message says "SplitterDistance must be between Panel1MinSize and Width - Panel2MinSize". Not taking the SplitterWidth into account, that would mean values for SplitterDistance are valid in the range from 25 - 125. First I want to search if the correct Visio version is installed, so I add a Search Condition to evaluate that and it works fine.     - File verification Hi, What I would do is load all the data from the database into a data table. This will get all the information you need in one local place. A little hit to get the data, depending on number of records, but it could be a smaller hit than constant communication with the database. It's also fairly easy to code using the data adapter. I'd then loop over each row in the table using VS_Programmers suggestion of File.Exists(), simply build the paths and do the check. This covers file verification from the database to the folder. If you need to you can update the records in the data table with files that are verified. Going the other way checking files against the database I would use recursion. Recursion is always a good approach to use when parsing over a file/folder tree structure. Also any application that uses recursion is cool by default. Basically the method calls itself passing in a directory who's files are checked before calling the same method again with a new directory. You would check that the file was in the data table where indicated. Once your finished checking your files I'd then use the data adapter again to update your database. Connection only opens twice and your application processing will be faster because it's working from data in memory. That I feel is a better approach but there are many more other ways you can do it, so my recommendation might not be suitable based on some requirements of your project but that is how I would approach it, get the data from database, parse the data to files, parse the files to data, modify data as appropriate, and then update the database with the modified data. Simply put, a baseform adds three controls, I derive from this form and add NO controls, upon calling show the 3 controls reorder themselves (well specifically the last 2 controls swap positions in the controls collection). Having populated the column.items with objects, and set the ValueMember and DisplayMember, the column correctly shows the pulldown list for a new row. I've tried assigning a string to the cell value, creating a new object with the same values as one item in the items list but both cause errors.
