    - DataGridView Custom Columns. Hi, I am trying to implement a custom control that can exist in a DGV cell. I had the control already working at many places in my UI but its the DGV part thats tricky and difficult ..... Custom Control: A combo box that shows a mapped version of database values. So the database column would have B and S and the combo box would display to the user "BUY" and "SELL". It would display BUY or SELL depending whether the database has B or S resp. And when the user changes the value in the combobox its again changed back to the correct coding scheme before being stored. This combo box as independent control in a UI works perfect. Implementation: I create a custom class inherit from combo box and create a BINDABLE property called DBBoundTag and bind it to whatever column. depending on what the user selects i format the value and then set a variable in the control class. Lets say user selected "BUY" i will set variable to "B". When the underlying list wants to see the updated value it accesses the DBBoundTag property and its Get mothod returns "B" so the property so the correct thing gets stored in the database. DGV Implementation ---------------------------- This is where it gets tricky.. I don't set the datapropertyname of the column through the designer. But there are some things i dont understand and hence the implementation isnt working: 1. should i inherit the cell class from DGVComboBoxCell instead of DGVTextBoxCell 2. should i inherit the column class from DGVComboboxColumn intead 3. Also when i run this code the cell's do not populate. CLEARLY the thing that is BOUND is a property of the editing control which does not come to picture until the control is gets into editing stage How do i overcome this 4. When the user selects a value from the combo box after going into edit mode, the variable in the underlying control class IS getting set. But the underlying list is not accessing the DBBoundTag Property so when i leave the cell i dont see any updated values in the cell. 5. How do link the editingcontrol and the cell. seems like the data is not flowing from the editing control to the cell. PPHHLEASE HELP !! See, the problem is that Join allows the message pump to continue working, so the window will still receive messages, but the main thread will not be able to actually do anything (it is blocked, after all). What you might want to do instead is create an asyncronous call by creating a delegate for tck() and calling BeginInvoke() on that delegate. You can then create a callback method that will get called once tck() is complete. The details should be in the documentation for delegate.BeginInvoke().     - disabling the mainmenu in a form Yes, the menu items do have an Enabled member but i would prefer not to use that because a lot of them are not always enabled and will have to keep track of their original state. I would have preferred to just disable the MainMenu all together and re-enable it accordingly. But it looks like i might have to work with the menu items after all. I handle DataAdapter.RowUpdated() and DataGridView.DataError() to create error messages for rows with problematic data.     - Problem with DataSource and ListBoxes I figured it out! Dear lord what an annoying and non-obvious problem. Ok. So, my program is broken down into tabs, and each tab has a ListBox pertaining to some aspect of the program. Each of those ListBoxes was bound to a DataSource. In addition, there are some other listboxes on the forms, some of which are to be filled out when an item was selected. The ones that don't get filled out during a selection were already populated with information retrieved from previous tabs, and in those cases, the DataSources and DisplayMembers overlap (meaning while they all come from the same DataSource (dataSet1) and the same display member, e.g. "Table1.Name"). So, I'm not sure what was happening, but when I make sure that only 1 ListBox in the whole program points to "Table1.Name" then it works perfectly. Does anybody know a fix for this, by chance Thanks! another way you can try some 3rd party control.Here is a sample.

You can use this control to have the same contexmenu style with XP and Windows 2003.
