    - C# show new form vs vb way because this is the correct way of doing things - you must create an instance of an object and show it. Forms or classes generally are not static unless explicitly told therefore you need to create an instance of the object and use it :-) in VB.NET, it is also not recommended to do it the way you were explaining - you will find many problems later on and what happens if you wanted to make several instances of an object how would you know which object to refer to What happens say if you create an event on the default instance but only wanted the default instance to act upon it but instead it may also act upon it on any child instances (ok not the best example but you see what I mean) It's also I guess in a sense, better design/OO practice really than accessing everything via the default instance. If you say modify the properties of the default instance then it may also effect on how you construct the object properly, so if say you set a public property of type string to "A" on the default instance, when you create "child" instances, the property will be by default "A" - and you don't want that. you want a clean approach/clean object to begin with without specifying default or modified values and expect something else As well as this, if you say changed the default instance in VB.NET, a property to something else (some other value) - all child instances generally will be set to that also, so whatever objects you created would pretty much be useless/wasteful because the default instance is the "master" and whatever it says/does, goes and modified the child instances also. Try it - you will see. So if I had form2 and made a public property like so.... Hi Dave,

By 'toggle', I mean that I would like to have the ToolStripSplitButton to stay 'pressed in' until it is clicked again, in the same way that the ToolStripButton can.
