Hello,

I have experienced that the caret sometimes disappears in 3rd-party toolbars in IE7 RTM, especially after launching IE. The bug was also present in previous beta releases but not in IE6.

Preproduction steps for the Google Toolbar
1 Open IE
2 Click in the search box
3 Click on Google Settings > Options and then cancel the dialog
4 Type something and notice that the caret has disappeared

Reproduction steps for the Windows Live or Quero Toolbar
1 Open IE
2 Click in the search box
3 Start typing something
4 Move the mouse cursor around the search box and notice how the caret
disappears suddenly

I am posting this bug report here because the connect bug tracking database was turned off after RTM :-(

Best regards,

Viktor

Re: Internet Explorer Extension Development Disappearing Caret in 3rd-party Toolbars

Notes:

By "Click in the search box" I mean the search box of the respective toolbar and not IE7's built in search box.

The caret disappears when the mouse is hovered over a toolbar button in the 3-rd party toolbar area for the first time.

Update:

The caret also disappears if the mouse is hovered over the status bar.

1 open IE
2 set focus in search box of arbitrary 3rd-party toolbar
3 hover with the mouse over the status bar
4 caret has disappeard

Interestingly this bug only occurs after IE is newly opened.
