    - IE7 icon Problem Firstly, let's clear up the icon definitions. Favicons are those that are downloaded from the linked website and show the websites logo or whatever. The icons that we are all concerned with here in this fourm that are in error are the windows icons. These icons along with an array of others are usually contained in system dll files. Indexes into these files are kept track of in the registry and in the shortcut or favorite itself under properties. For example if the dll has 256 icons and windows calls the dll as shell.dll, 255 the 255 is the index into the icon file. In this case the last one (base 0). The problem here is with IE7. The registry entries under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT (url and internetshortcut) appear correct. Icon files or container files contain an array of icons. Windows displays icons based on the index into the icon file. So if you call the icon file followed by a number, the number indicates which icon in the container file is to be used. This value is stored in the favorite or shortcut under properties. The index in url.dll for favorites is 0. The zero points to the first icon of the array in this dll, which is the correct icon for favorites. There is another container file that windows uses called shell32.dll. The first icon in this container file is the windows default icon. Now, when IE7 accesses the favorite, it changes the icon container file name from the url.dll file to the shell32.dll file. Microsoft appears to be ignoring the problem throughout the Beta stage into the final release. Until Microsoft realizes that there is a problem and fixes it, I suggest changing the icon in the properties dialogs of the offending favorites from %SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll to C:\WINDOWS\system32\url.dll. Unfortunately, as soon as you access this favorite with IE7, the icon file will be reset to the wrong one again. The solution is to set all of the favorites to read-only until MS comes up with the fix. All browsers based on IE like Maxthon will experience the same problem until the error is corrected by MS.     - Problem with "hello world" button 1 Hi all. I'm new to IE extension development and I'm trying to get a basic "hello world" extension together. I've hit a problem and would greatly appreciate your help. I've followed the "Adding Toolbar Buttons" tutorial at http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa753588.aspx The button is showing up, but when I click it nothing happens. I'm not sure what the script language is meant to be - I assumed Javascript.     - Problem in accessing site on IE7 I have an site developed in ASP 3.0 and Javascript 1.3.The site runs fine on IE6.This site depends on some built in activeX controls as TDC ..etc heavily. Recently I upgraded to IE7.Now when I start my application ion IE7,it show me " Internet explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close.When I click on the "ok" button on the pop up message the application closes / crashes. I have confirmed that the TDC is responsible for it.IE6 has TDC.OCX version 1.3.0.3130 but IE7 has version 7.0.5730.11 .     - Cookie folder has disappeared! I need help. I have run SpyHunter several times and it keeps coming up with the same cookies for me to delete. When I go to look at the actually cookie file (under document and settings\myname... there's no cookie file anymore. I do a search, and still nothing. Under folder options I have the "show hidden files and folders" enabled. So, it's showing me all the hidden files. No cookie folder. I have all Windows updates. I am using IE7. Other than some annoying cookies that are somewhere on my computer, the computer has no viruses. I did have an issue earlier in the week regarding "ultimate cleaner", which I had to resort to using "SmitFraudFix". Since I didn't go looking for the cookie folder until after I became aware of the ultimate cleaner, I don't know if the folder was missing prior to it, or if I lost it because of it.     - IE7 FTP Security Issue I have run into a security hole in my ftp site that has only now become a problem with IE7. The structure of my ftp directory involes several streaming media folders and a Client folder in the root directory. The contents of the client folder and its children are all password protected. Inside these folders I upload content for my clients to view approvals and allow them to upload files for my own use. The root directory has read-only permissions for everybody because of the streaming content I am hosting. In the past when a client logs into their ftp folder, the password protected nature of the client folder prevents them from moving up in the hierarchy outside of their folder. In IE7 however, I have found that a client can now leave her folder and move all the way through my hierarchy, into all of the folders I have designated read-only for everybody. She can not of course enter other client's folders because of their password requirements; however, I do not want a client to have the ability to navigate through these parent directories even if she only has read persmissions. I suspect this issue has to do with the new way IE7 reads ftp folders. What solutions do you suggest I am considering creating a second domain specifically for client files, thus separating the streaming material. I suspect this would solve everything, however I would prefer to just reconfigure my current setup if there is a solution present.     - IE7 div not stretching to fill width I keep getting this and I can't find the fix to it anywhere.... please help! When a div doesn't have enough content to fill the width of the area the div doesn't fill the whole width. A gap will appear at the end of the div in IE7 browsers. I don't want to have to set fixed widths for the middle content section so that it can shrink to fit re-sizing the browser. I've tried everything I can think of. Setting the width to 100% breaks it because the left navigation pane or right pane will no longer float. It's probably something really obvious so I can't find it on blogs.     - IE7 and Windows Explorer Folder Hello, I would like to write some kind of addon or extension to IE7 that will allow an Explorer folder, for example C:\myProjects, to be opened directly inside of IE7 tabbed window; this will help my desktop from being so cluttered. Current, if I open a new "tabbed window" in IE7 and type in "C:\myProjects" in the address bar it opens an Windows Explorer folder outside of IE7. To me this makes no since since both IE7 and Windows Browser share the same underlying framework.     - How to get image or picture data? I wanted to know if there's any way to retrieve the actual "image" as such in a BHO. I want to add functionality such as "Save to folder" or "send by email" for images through my BHO. However, after quite a bit of searching, I don't seem to get the actual image "data" as such. I either need the image's file saved in IE's cache or some sort of binary blob which I should be able to save. I tried the RetrieveUrlCacheEntryFile from wininet.dll but either I'm not getting it right in managed code through the pinvoke thingy, or I'm using it wrong, but it's returning the file-not-found error code for each call.     - Protecting/Backing Up Internet Explorer History File In an age where it seems like everyone is wanting to ERASE their internet history files, I am seeking to back them up to another file name, or preserve them in some way against arbitrary erasure. My children are inquisitive and sometimes visit inappropriate web sites. They are aged 12 and 15, and both have been computer literate since about age 3 or so, and especially since they learned to read at age 4 or so have become (as you could imagine) quite instinctive about computers and their many uses and possibilities on the internet. With this comes the natural curiosity of a child, visiting inappropriate sites, downloading adware, and the problem that they have learned how to cover their tracks in Explorer, by erasing either the entire history or specific sites they've visited from internet history file.     - IE 7 display blank page on refresh when viewing session enabled PHP pages served from IIS 6!! Pages using PHP sessions and external javascript in the head portion of the html document and which served from IIS 6 to IE 7 are not refreshing properly (displays blank on refresh).     - problem with IE7 - links suppose to open in the same page but it opens a new page in my website Hi i'm designing this website using dreamweaver 8, i used frameset method to devide the page into 3 frames top frame which contains the flash navigation menu, left frame which contains ads , right/content frame which contains the content of the website. when the user click any of the links on the menu it should be opened in the content frame , it worked fine in IE6 , but when i upgraded to IE7 things changed every link now opens in a new page! this is the flash code i'm using in each link getURL("../services_en/services_en.html" , "content"); content is the name of the frame that i wish all the links appear in. i've tried the <base target="content"> included in the head tag of the menu page but that didnt work for me. i belive the problem is from the browser since it's working fine in IE6 , what should i do any patch files should i download or there is any specific target i should add in flash Tag: Internet Explorer Web Development Browser for Windows Mobile::Need more infomation.?     - Calling ActiveX function from Javascript Hi, From what I've heard, you're supposed to be able to call an embedded activex function or set one of its properties from the javascript in an html/asp page as long as the function or property is declared as public in the code. I have an activex control embedded in an html page with the object tag: <object ID="gis" classid="clsid:C9905EA4-468A-46c0-BCF4-49A547B3A2E6"> Then I try to call a public function of the control like this: <script> function showbox() { gis.ShowMBox(); } <script> All the function does is show a messagebox. I have an html button that calls the javascript function like this: <input type=button value="SetDoc" onclick="showbox()"> When I click the button which calls the javascript function, which in turn calls the activex function, I get a page error icon in the status bar, and when I double click it here's the error message I see: Line: 12 Char: 2 Error: Object doesn't support this property or method.     - activex cab file Hi, I have an activex control that also contains a .dll to convert file formats. VB6 packages it into a cab that work fine until the program uses the dll. Gets a file not found error when accessing the dll. Works fine if I move the dll to the system32 folder. But this is internet based app. Looked at destindir it is set to 11 (system32) also set it to blank but no joy.     - IE7: iexplore.exe Application Error Well, after I updated my QuickTime, I've been getting this error when I close out a window that had a PNG image in it (because QuickTime loads PNG's): iexplore.exe - Application error The instruction at "0x09809bc7" referenced memory at "0x00000038". The memory could not be "read". Click OK to terminate the program. Everything works fine after I click ok, and nothing seems to be malfunctioning. The locations where the instruction/memory are will vary, but that's the most recent one I recieved. I've tried repairing QuickTime, but it didn't help. I haven't tried uninstalling it completely/re-installing it, but you'd think that repairing it would work. Anybody know what the problem could be Thanks for the help.     - Javascript validation not working in IE 7 but works in IE 6 JavaScript validation is not working in IE 7 but works just fine in IE 6. Function to validate a text box to check that the input is numbers only else, raise an alert message and return false. This function is called on the OnBlur event of the textbox on the page. In IE 7 and FF 2.x, the error message is raised when an non numeric input is entered in the text box but after clicking on the page/any other control of the page, the validation is disabled and allows the user to continue to fill the next field. However, the page works fine in IE 6.0 and does not allow the user to fill in the next control till the current text box value is corrected. Any insight in this matter would be highly appreciated.     - IE7 and changing an image in a different frame We have a series of GIS mapping applications that run using ESRI's ArcIMS software with a javascript based html viewer. We use a series of frames on a single page to display the base map, legend, table of contents, and an overview map. The applications have been running for about 4 years without any major browser issues.     - document.location.search is null in ie7 rc1 for local url I launch my app from a local file and pass it the location of a remote server in the query string. For example, given the following shortcut: "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" file:///c:/abc/abc.html REMOTE_SERVER=https://ie7.microsoft.com/server/ I have javascript on that page which parses document.location.search to obtain REMOTE_SERVER . Hye all! I would like to dig more infomation base on Windows Mobile platform. My situation here i have to design & develop a mobile web site perfectly for Windows Mobile platform. So i need more infomation such as what version of Flash player using on that Windows Mobile browser. What other plugin/scripting did that mobile browser (IE ) supported such as Javascript or else. How about image format supported is that browser support alpha channel image such as PNG transparent image to view on that browser
