I had an older version of IE Developer Toolbar installed in IE6 and wanted to upgrade to the newest version (1.00.2188.0). I uninstalled the older version and installed the new version, but now I cannot get the toolbar to show up. When I first start IE6, it's not there, so I right-clicked on another toolbar to see if I can show it and it's not listed as an available toolbar.

Curiously, if I go to the Manage Add-ons dialog, both IE Developer Toolbar and IE Developer BHO are listed and both are enabled. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the newest version to no avail. Unfortunately, I don't have the installer for the previous version. Any ideas are appreciated.

I had the same problem then in a moment of genius I remembered that I'd disabled the IE Command bar with a registry hack, once I'd re-enabled it the DevToolbar re-appeared. I know it unlikely, but I thought I'd mention it just in case this is your problem too.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\CommandBar]
"Enabled"=dword:00000001

1 to Enable - 0 to disable.

Best regards

I am still not able to get the toolbar to show up. Fortunately I've found another way to use the "View DOM" feature as well as all the other features of the toolbar:

In IE 6, select the following menu option: View -> Toolbars -> Customize...

In the "Available Toolbar Buttons" section on the left, you should see the "IE Developer Toolbar" button. Highlight it and click the "Add" button to move it to the "Current Toolbar Buttons", then click "Close".

You should now see the IE Developer Toolbar button in the Standard Buttons section of IE. Clicking on that button shows/hides the "View DOM" feature of the IE Developer Toolbar and also allows you to access all it's other features.

I'm using IE 7 and the only way for me to use IE Dev Toolbar is by marking it from View-> Explorer fields. Not so nice solution though.

I thought I had the same problem, but eventually I realized: it doesn't add a new toolbar. It just adds a little blue mouse-cursor icon to the standard toolbar. When I click that and I can see the IE developer explorer bar.

Just thought I'd mention that in case anyone else was as clueless as me and just didn't see the button.

I get similar results, was surprised when I saw the screenshot at http://watin.sourceforge.net/gettingstarted.html are different from what you're describing, but I see the same Blue Cursor button marked IE Developer Toolbar as you say I should get. But unfortunately get no response when clicking on it... no View DOM, no panel, no nothing.

Anyone know what might be causing this

Internet Explorer 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.070227-2254

Thanks!
