I am looking for some explanation regarding res://ieframe.dll/dnserror.htm appearing in the status bar of Internet Explorer 7 briefly after hitting the go button. I have a website that some users complain about extremely poor performance, and I'm not seeing it from my end, however, I do suspect that there may be some DNS issues with the domain name based on the behaviour they describe. The only difference I see when I go to my site from others on the web is that res://ieframe.dll/dnserror.htm flashes in the status bar prior to loading the site. I've done all DNS checks I know of and DNS checks out fine. Any help on this issue would be helpful.

tiberious, I am having a problem with the "waiting for res://ieframe.dll/dnserror.htm" and can find no answer to the problem. This message flashes on the url and IE7 shows that the page cannot be found. IE7 won't work at all after that nor will Outlook. I have to restart in order to get connectivity to my DSL. Everthing seems to work fine for a while until the message appears again, which requires a restart. My DSL shows that I am still connected even though I can't connect with IE7 nor Outlook when this happens. I have tried about everything I know for resetting the DSL modem, clearing temp file, cache, etc. I have searched Microsoft's site and the internet to no end for a solution but can't find one. Most say it's a firewall problem and not IE7. I am using Zonealarm free version with AVG virus software. No one else using Zonealarm, according to Zonealarm, is experiencing this problem. Do you have any suggestions

Hummm....not sure why this is happening, but the "Waiting for res://ieframe.dll/dnserror.htm..." message seems to be specific to IE7. There are'nt many references to it on the web. When I see the message, it's very temporary, and the page does load after that with no loss of connectivity.

I would agree with whomever suggested that it is a firewall issue. To troubleshoot this, I recommend disabling ZoneAlarm and any other firewall software (including the Windows firewall) temporarily to isolate that variable. If the problem still happens with the firewalls down, I would install FireFox and go to the same URL that is crashing IE7 to see if it is your browser that is causing the problem.

My opinion is that if you have the Windows firewall activated and configured properly, there is no need for any other firewall software, though ZoneAlarm will certainly disagree with this.

Thanks for the response. There is no particular website I am trying to pull up when the message appears. It does flash temporarily on the url message bar, but the page never loads. I will try your suggestion of shutting down Zonealarm and using Windows firewall to see what happens.

Tiberious, cutting of Zonealarm and using Windows firewall didn't do the trick. I have since downloaded and started using Firefox and uninstalled IE7. We'll see if this works. I have to think the problem is in IE7.

Irbuck,

I was having same problem on my laptop, although I had 2 other computers connected to internet w/ no problems: one directly and one thru wireless network.

I installed Firefox on the laptop and it is not working either though it doesn't give me any reason why, unlike IE7.

I saw another post on a related thread saying he had fixed problem by initializing the router w/ a pin in the pinhole at the back of the router and that now he could get online.

I tried this and it didn't work. Have you been able to access internet with Firefox

Sharon

At the end of the day, it seems that it was a firewall issue all along. Switching to Firefox didn't help. Turns out, when I made a selection is ZoneAlarm to allow the DNS/DCHP in the trusted and internet zone on the High security setting, everything worked just fine.

I get the same message and page not found. When I refresh page it works fine. Has anybody seen this problem or fixed it. I've had it happen on about 5 different computers running XP pro and 2000 pro with IE 6 and 7. Thanks

Hi Jay,

I finally called PlumChoice and they told me that someone had manually changed the IP address on my computer and that was the reason--it was not automatically acquiring the correct IP address.

It was $25 for it to get fixed in 15 minutes--maybe you could have them fix one and you can watch them do it and then you could fix the other computers yourself.
