    - Internet Explorer/websites/this is disturbing... I don't know if this is the right forum...if not, and someone could refer me somewhere else, I'd appreciate it. I was on a website that was supposed to have a message board about the retro music videos that are posted on the site (the links to which all seem to be broken in the first place, so I didn't even stream any of the videos). I hadn't been to this site for months (though I guess there was one video link I had tried earlier in the day), and had never posted to the message board before or had any public profile of any sort. In fact, I don't have public profiles posted anywhere. Anyway, the link to the message board either wasn't what it claimed to be, or it had been highjacked...in any case, the link brought up XXX content. Much to my alarm, the page said something to the effect of "Find friends in your area", and specified the city where I live. I find this supremely disturbing, because I know I'd never supplied any profile information to this site...or any site for that matter, it's just not something that I ever do--because, I thought I was protecting myself from anyone that I didn't want having information about me getting it. Apparently they can anyway. I do occasionally make purchases online, that's the only time I can think of that I ever supply my address. But it's by and large only companies like Ebay and Amazon, or textbook dealers...and I never put information into a site that doesn't bring up the secure server icon in internet explorer. I ran every spyware and virus scan I have after the incident, and cleared everything in my history/TIFs/cookies, but I don't know if that addresses the problem, since I'm not sure what the problem is. I'm just really freaked out by this. How the hell did this website get information on where I live And more importantly, is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening in the future Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.     - "Requested lookup key" IE7 Problem Please help! I just set up my new PC with Windows XP and after installing IE7, when i try to go on any website it launches a pop-up, stating "The requested look up key was not found in any activation context" and doesnt launch any webpages. Yet Mozilla Firefox works fine.     - window.showModalDialog() controls are misplaced with IE 7 I've developed a number of modal dialogs with IE 6. The controls in them are positioned with style="position:absolute". Their placement is fine with IE 6 but with IE 7 the controls are positioned so far to the left that they are off the screen. I have an asp Panel control positioned at left:0px and all I can see of it is a piece of the right scroll bar against the left border of the modal dialog. If I position it at left:200px, I can begin to see all of it. When this is run under IE 6 the table is positioned properly. I've reread the documentation on window.showModalDialog() and I can't find anything that describes this behavior. It makes no difference if the dialog is centered or not. Is this a bug in IE 7 or is there something I'm not doing properly. Everything seems to work fine with window.open(). -Dan.     - Please help !!! - Javascript OnChange events are not fired Hi All, have one strange problem. Scenario: 1) Server with MS CRM 3.0 and some custom client-side scripts applied to CRM elements (OnChange, OnLoad handl;ers etc.) 2) PC A with IE7 installed 3) PC B with IE6 installed 4) PC C with IE7 installed Problem is, that some (not all!) JavaScript events are just not fired on PC A and PC B. At the same time, same code form same server are running perfectly well on PC C! OnLoad events are working everywhere. OnChange - almost never on PC A and PC B. I tried to make every change I could think of in IE security settings - it didn't help. During making chaotic changes to IE settings on PC A I managed to make events fire normally - but when I closed IE window and re-opened it - every problem returned back. Event handler code is written on javascript and it does not matter whats inside - even alert("test"); is not working. Does anybody have any idea, what can prevent IE6-7 to stop firing OnChange events I completely lost.. Best regards, Alexander G.     - Help w/ hiding explorer bars with Jscript Hi, I'm trying to hide the explorer bars, I occasionally see them when a page is launched in kiosk mode. I call the script first thing when the page is loading. When I call the script function, I still see the explorer bars.     - IE 7 Uninstall/Install Issues This is not the common inability to uninstall IE 7. I have read through many of the problems other peoples have been having trying to uninstall certain versions of IE 7 to get the newest version. This is not what I am trying to do. What first started the issue was that I had installed IE 7. (Bad choice to begin with. I am a firm supporter of Mozilla FireFox.) After installing IE 7, I attempted to use the program for a website that is IE specific. However, after double clicking the IE 7 desktop icon that had been created, IE 7 had created an immediate error and had to be closed. I couldn't tell what error had been created but I know its on a different line and with a different code every time when I read the "details" of the error and subsequent shutdown. Now, I've figured to just uninstall IE 7 and revert back to IE 6. BUT, after several attempts at uninstalling, I get the following error: Setup cannot copy the file: ieakmmc.chm So I click "Cancel" and I get the following message: Do you want to continue setup without copying this file I click "Yes" and get the following message: If you cancel copying this file Windows might not work correctly. Are you sure you want to cancel this file And once again I click "Yes". What is now being referred to as "Set Up" instead of "Uninstall" continues on, but immediately after that I get another error of the same message, stating that the file "ieeula.chm" cannot be copied. So I go through the same process as I did with the "ieakmmc.chm" file and after finishing this, I get another file that can't be copied. The rest of the files that could not be copied were: iesupp.chm iexplore.chm inetres.adm html.iec After going through those files in the same fashion as I did with the original "ieakmmc.chm" file, I get a new error stating: The file 'mshtml.dll.000' on Windows NT Service Pack uninstall Directory is needed. I treat this error the same way as "ieakmmc.chm" and IE 7's uninstall creates one last error stating that the uninstall cannot be completed. I also tried clicking "Retry" but in doing so, I cannot go past the first file "ieakmmc.chm". I figure to download and install the newest IE 7, because after all that I've read, that will uninstall the previous version and everything will be fine. Well, after downloading and doubling click the installer, I get through almost the entire unpacking process of the installer and get the following error: "update\iesetup.exe is not a valid Win32 application." This error tells me about as much as "I am mad at you, and you should know why, therefore I won't tell you why." So in all of my frustration to still download IE 7, or attempt to revert BACK to IE 6, I have come thus far and am now stuck at what I should do now. PLEASE, I apologize for the long windedness, but I need some help with this.     - BeforeNavigate2 gets bad parameter values Hi I'm new to BHO development and to the ATL sink concept. I'm currently developing BHO on top of IE7 using VS 2005.     - Custom Image Decode Filters for GIF and JPEG? (Possibly the wrong place to ask this sort of question, but...) We have a need to provide custom image decode filters for the standard image types. For most of them, this is easy enough using standard IE facilities to register the filters against the appropriate MIME types. Unfortunately (for our purposes), image/gif, image/jpeg, and image/pjpeg are special cased by IE, so that even if an image decode filter is registered for one of them, it is ignored, and the build in renderer is used. (It would be nice if IE checked for an explicitly registered decoder, and use the built-in one only if a custom one wasn't registered, but that's not the case...) We currently fake this out by hooking the FindMimeFromData() function to return custom image MIME types for these 3, and then registering our filters against these custom MIME types. This works OK for displaying these image types. Unfortunately, FindMimeFromData() is apparently also used by IE to determine the Content-type to return in the file data part of the multipart/form-data returned for an INPUT Type=file FORM, meaning that attempts to upload GIF or JPEG files will get our "funny" MIME types attached to them, which isn't OK. As far as I can tell, there doesn't appear to be enough info passed to FindMimeFromData() to allow our hook routine to determine why it is being called, so it can't return the "real" MIME types in the outbound case, and the "fake" MIME types in the inbound case. I was wondering if anyone has a suggestion for another way to solve this problem. I am not at all knowledgeable about IE extensions, but I have read some things implying that it may be possible to insert a filtering add-on that could find (and rewrite) the MIME types in the incoming stream. However, I haven't found any details or documentation that describes how to do something of this sort. A solution that isn't specific to a particular rev of IE would be preferred, but an IE7 only solution would be acceptable.     - Calling .Net executable from a browser Was wondering if someone can help me with this. I wrote a console application in .Net that reads a Serial port, was wondering if there is a way to call this application from a client script so I can get this Serial Port value into my Web Page, and then submit to server.     - Problem Getting C# BHO To Work/Deploy I have what should be a relatively simple C# .NET 2.0 IE BHO that I am really struggling with. The goal of the BHO is to provide a hook when the users preses a specific button on a given web page. At first, I thought I had the program working 100% - it was doing everything I needed with the exception of the problem was I could not deploy it to machines that did not have VS2005 installed (using VS2005 Deployment project). As I have been tinkering with the settings, however, the BHO does not hardly work anymore, even on my dev machine. What is happening now is that the IEHelper() function is being called (popup is displayed when IE is started), but that is it. The GetSite() and SetSite() are NOT being called, thus the doc handlers are never getting registered and are not working. I am worried it is a bad reference to Microsoft.mshtml or SHDocVw.dll or something like a COM registration issue. I am totally lost!!     - IE7 Changes Session Numbers I'm supporting an application in my office that runs in a web browser and connects to a secure area of our website. The users locate customers in browser instance 1 and then click a link to log into the customer account in browser instance 2. The problem occurs when the user logs out of customer account in browser 2 and returns to browser 1 to locate the next customer. The session number has changed and the security cookies have disappeared forcing the user to log into the application again in browser 1. The user environment is Internet Explorer 7 running on Windows XP Professional. The application is written using ASP and VB Script. I've tried different methods of starting browser 2 including a form post, anchor tag and javascript window.open(). They all exhibit the same behavior. The interesting thing is that the application works fine in FireFox. Any ideas on how to fix this issue will be grealty appreciated.     - adding a button to work offline Hi, I added a button to Internet Explorer's toolbar and pointed to the executable without any problems. The executable modifies the registry value: My.Computer.Registry.SetValue ("HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings", "GlobalUserOffline", 1) This works if I restart IE or open a second instance of IE. It doesn't work in the currently opened IE instance. I want this button to work as if it's done from IE's File menu > Work Offline Is it possible to accomplish and how I looked in msdn library and found a Offline property: "Offline Property Sets or gets a value that indicates whether the object is operating in offline mode.     - IE7 cookie problem Can anyone help with the following. When I log on to a web page, a session is created and saved using in-proc cookies which are saved in the IE7 client browser. When a new window is opened in the same session and then closed, the cookies are deleted and the session is lost, even though the first window is still opened. The session was not closed. This happens only on certain PCs, not always and only with IE7 . This problem is only with IE7, all other browsers are ok.     - Issue with Internet Explorer 7 - Security Prompt I have programmed an application that uses WMI Scripting to check the Serial Number of the Hard Disk Drive. The user connects to the Web Server and then the Web application should check and show the Serial Number. However, this works in Internet Explorer 6 (the browser asks the user if he/she allows to run ActiveX). In Internet Explorer 7 a Prompt appears and disappears and the user cannot tell the browser if he/she allows or not ActiveX execution (this is if the IE is configured to ask the user, because if it's configured to allow execution, the application works, but there is a security issue and the company will not alllow this).     - IE Font Rendering Inconsitency on Select Elements I've noticed that there appears to be an inconsitency with how text is rendered in elements on IE7. I have a web page that is encoded in utf-8, and contains japanese code points. All text looks fine except text in select elements. In a select element the text is rendered as squares. I can fix the problem by explicitly selecting a font that contains these code points (e.g. MS Gothic) However, that doesn't seem to be required for any other element. So what gives Is this a bug If it is, is there any chance we'll see a fix Thanks.     - IE7 Start up problem Hi, I am having problems starting IE7. When I start IE7 it hangs for ages, maybe a few minutes before starting then everything runs OK. I don't think IE7 is the problem because when I start my network connection (tiscali broadband) explorer hangs too and nothing will run until it clears itself, several minutes later. When I boot Windows (XPSP2) iexplorer.exe runs at boot and tries to connect to the internet but I have no applications that call this program at startup, (except maybe McAfee and JavaSun scheduler). I have checked the registry and it seems clear (as far as I can see!) I have tried running McAfee and AdAware but they dont find anything. Have even tried a rootkit analyser but it also says nothing amiss. It is as if a program runs IE7 invisibly in the background and the explorer/system can only start properly when this has finished. Does this sound like a trojan Had the same problem before I upgraded from IE6. I have tried disabling add-ons but no improvement. One other thing is it will not play videos when called from flash web page application, otherwise they play normally. I have latest flash player installed. Does anyone else have this problem Or can anyone suggest a fix I would really appreciate any feed back / support. Hi,

We have help.chm file. help.chm file calling from the Java script file for displaying the help.

The Help.chm file contains index on leftside and contents on rightside. Contents designed with html tags.

When user clicking on the help icon, help file displayed on the seperate window. But it displays yellow error information bar on the top-right corner of help window(Content window) also.

Error Message: " To help protect your security, Internet has retricted this webpage from the running scripts and ActiveX controls that could acces your computer. Click here for the options"

This happens on IE7 not in IE6.

Can any one give solution to avoid error information bar.
