Hi,

We're currently in an XP (pre-SP2) environment and I'm trying to find any information about the MSJVM and the upcoming DST change...

I was under the assumption that the MSJVM pulls the date-time information from the underlying Windows OS, thus a specific DST patch for the MSJVM is not needed.

Is my assumption correct Do we only need to worry about applying the DST patch to Windows itself

thanks!

This is probably just me being ignorant, but didn't Microsoft stop developing the MS Java 5 years ago

Yes they did.

Unfortunately I'm supporting a mix of different Windows OS's and the question was brought up about the MSJVM and if there's any solid "word" from Microsoft about the DST issue.

thanks!

Wazoo, I am trap on the same boat. Did you get your answer I have MSJVM installed and needs to know if it relies on OS for time zone or has its own compiled version of TZ files.

I think it maintains an internal data structure to calculate date and from what I heard,, YES .. DST changes affect MSJVM users!

Yes Ragesh is correct.

We FINALLY heard back from our Microsoft Rep and the official word he gave us was to switch to the Sun JRE as the browser default.

It's just HIGHLY annoying that the MS support site has zero documentation to give everyone the official word on the matter.

Oh well, regardless, yes you're going to need to upgrade your browser / desktop configuration to use the Sun JRE rather than the MSJVM.

If you're only using the MSJVM to query NTLM information from the currently logged in user, the Sun JRE has been capable of doing this for a while (but obviously double-check any applications you're supporting).

Thanks again Ragesh!

You can get a MSJVM DST patch from Microsoft under a CSA (Customer Support Agreement). At least for NT4 there is such a patch.
