    - IE Toolbar on Windows Vista and IE7 Hi Martin, Usually as well as the COM registration under a HKCR key, you also add a key with a value of your toolbars CLSID to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\WebBrowser or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar But I cannot confirm that for Vista as I am using XP and Win2K. I kinda suspect that installing a toolbar without validating user access rights to the registry (ie using an installer), particuarly on a Vista platform, may cause problems when you try to write to protected keys. Also to consider is how the Addon manager detects your new toolbar. It may be that if the Addon manager does not know about your new toolbar that it will stop it from being loaded by IE. But I don't know this for sure... I think it builds a list of Addons each time IE is started by inpecting the above keys and others under Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer. There is also a limit of 16 toolbar addons that you can have installed in IE. When you install any more they will not appear in the View>Toolbars list and cannot be displayed by the showbrowserbar method. Your toolbar will not be visible in the IE toolbar until the user has choosen to show it from the View>Toolbars menu (or selected it from the toolbar context menu).     - Question on Form Spam Bots are typically hand-tweaked for each different application. There isn't a lot of variance, though. In many cases, all it has to do is send a form submission with proper field names and values provided; it doesn't necessarily need to read the original HTML at all. That's actually key to defeating them... add information to the form that the bots can't easily read. A basic thing is to vary the field names. More advanced strategies include a "CAPTCHA" filter--an image with text the user must interpret to submit a message. Advanced bots can defeat these with OCR software. So the CAPTCHA must be upgraded to mangle the image to thward OCR software but still enalbing humans to read it. It's an arms race, really. Regarding your email account, once the spammers know your email address, it'll be spammed until the end of time, even if it is inactive or deleted. If you're using the CGI module, you can use the line print $cgi->header('text/html'); instead, where $cgi is your reference to the CGI instance.     - IE7 displaying local images Unless anybody has a better solution, the only way I could get this to work was to have the user add this site to their trusted sites list: Tools | Internet Options | Security Tab Click trusted sites green checkmark and click the "Sites" button and choose Add to add the site currently being viewed.     - IE7 won't accept my cookie I've actually come accross the same problem with a website. We use the same login system for all our sites, just simple cookie / db stuff and some users with IE7 report that they cant log in, and doing a javascript:alert(document.cookie) in the address bar brings up no cookies, though this only happens with "some" IE7 users, my test box with IE7 works fine. All other browsers save the cookie fine (even IE6) I know one person who contacted me with this problem could log in fine with IE6, but after they upgraded to IE7 they couldn't log in again. And one thing i know this person did on IE6 was set the cookie settings to accecpt cookies from that website. The error points to: Internet explorer and mshtml.dll 6.0.2900.2853 We are in the process of testing our newest UI using BackBase AJAX framework 3_3_1 in QA server. A lot of our clients are using older versions of IE 6.0 and they do not want to upgrade to IE 7. We were able to work around the issue by upgrading IE6 with all High Priority patches and then upgrading to IE 7.0 and then uninstalling IE 7.0 back to IE 6.0. This “solved” the issue but why The issue is that I need a solution to fix IE 6.0 mshtml.dll failure without having to upgrade to IE 7.0 Thanks, Carlos A Acosta You may recreate problem running IE 6.0 by : 1. Using web browser: http://qa-server1.avatarlms.com/login.html#[0 ] 2. Click on “Show All Classes” on the left navigation. 3. Scroll down to the bottom of the list/page and you will see paginator “First Last 1 2 3 4 56 Next Last” 4. Click on 1 then 2 then 3 then 4 then 2 then 4 until you get the IE Report Error popup. Following are the detailed scenarios that we follow to work around this problem: 1. Install WinXP SP2 volume license from MSDN and installed no Windows update patches. Result: IE browser failed. 2. Install WinXP SP2 volume license from MSDN then installed all High priority windows updates by selecting all IE6 cumulative updates only. – Result: IE browser will work. But I do not have control over clients machine to re-install Win XP SP2 and upgrade in the “right sequence”. 3. Install WinXP SP2 and install some hot fixes first, then installed IE6 cumulative updates only. This scenario is typical of our clients. Result: IE browser failed. 4. Continue with scenario 3 and installed all high priority patches and IE6 patches from windows upgrade site. Result: IE6 browser failed. 5. Continue with scenario 4 and upgrade to IE 7.0. Result:IE7 browser works. But clients do not want to upgrade to IE 7.0 6. Continue with scenario 5 and uninstalled IE.7.0 back to IE 6.0. Results: IE 6.0 works. This is a work around the issue if clients are willing to upgrade to 7.0 and downgrade back to IE 6.0.     - IE7 InternetExplorer.Application object issues? Ok, I found out some more information..... It looks like the IE7 InternetExplorer object I am creating is opening the URL in a new window because of the https:// and it thinks it is in a different security zone (even though nothing is currently open in the browser). This seems pretty odd to me. Once I added the web site to the list of trusted sites, it no longer does this. I even reproduced this behavior by opening a new browser by hand, which has About:Blank as its home page, and then typing in an https:// address in the address bar. It wants to open it in a new window. This seems really ugly. So questions now arise - 1. Is there any way to have a new instance of IE open an HTTPS site without opening it in a second instance 2.     - Browser threads and Ajax IE will only keep open 2 HTTP(s) connections to the *same* server at once... so if you are downloading 2 large scripts, everything else queues up. Firefox realized this "old" standard was outdated (now that most have broadband) and increased it... (I think 8 or 16 ) The IE team has also indicated that in IE8, they too will increase it but choosed not to in IE7 (althought RSS connections in the Feeds section will be counted seperately) If you want to improve the speed of IE, there are extensions that will up the 2 to 10 or some other value. So, after publishing the first version of my webBrowser to a folder on my desktop, I ran the setup, and that was that. I opened the Start Menu, and sure enough my webBrowser was installed, but it is not in the "Program Files" folder, so I dont know where it is!!!

If you can find the shortcut in the Start menu, you can right-click on it to view the Properties of the shortcut. Where is it pointing
