I am trying to set my home page through Tools->InternetOptions which is prefixed with our custom protocol. When i am clicking on 'Apply',we are getting a warning message saying the home page set is not a webpage. From IE7 documentation we found that IE7 security features does not allow to recognize unknown protocols.I tried to set through changing registry entries. But sadly it showed 'about blank' as a home page. How can i set the home page through either 'coding' or through changing registry settings

Thank you for your interest in reading this naive question.

Re: Internet Explorer Extension Development Setting home page in IE7 with custom protocol

IECUSTOMIZER

Hi Prasad,

More information please. Can you post the registry node for your custom protocol for us to have a look at.

Can you load your custom home page by entering the protocol://uri in the address bar of IE7, can you then set the homepage using the Homepage command bar button once you have loaded it in a tab/window

Info on implementing custom protocols:

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms947584.aspx

A work around may be to create a custom about: protocol command, see HKLM\......\Internet Explorer\AboutURLs

eg.

key: Microsoft value:http://www.microsoft.com

Address bar syntax about:microsoft

Regards.

Hi Rob,

1. We are able to load the custom page by entering customprotocol://uri.

2.We are unable to set the homepage using homepage command bar button.

3.We tried to create a custom about: protocol command using HKLM\.....\InternetExplorer/AboutURLs.

4.Basically we created a key and set the value as our custom url.

5.We could not get the page displayed when we typed about:key

We could not understand how to proceed further.Thank you for your help.

Regards,

Prasad
