I have been getting IE7 crashes on a regular basis, on two different computers, after upgrading. Can't replicate the crashes, because they don't occur all the¡but the info from the Event Viewer follows:

On a P4¨C3.4E GHz computer with XP Pro & all current updates:

¡°Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 7.0.5730.11, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 5.1.2600.2180, fault address 0x00018fea.¡±

On Centrino 1.83 GHz Dell Inspiron6000 with XP Pro & all current updates:

¡°Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 7.0.5730.11, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x61df7730.¡±

Extremely annoying...so much so that I may go back to IE6.

Anyone have any ideas

It is most likely an incompatible extension. Try running IE stand-alone.

iexplore.exe -extoff

I have exactly the same problem since I installed the update for iexplore 7. You are right, running stand-alone avoids crashing as well as many displays. Is IE importing previous add-ons which are in conflict with the new version, or something like that

I was having the same issue with IE7 crashing. I disabled the google toolbar add-on and the problem went away for me.

I just reinstalled the google toolbar software and IE7 is not crashing anymore.

I am getting the same error - except only when I use OWA. It all works fine until I try to send a new email and hey presto it disappears. I do not have Google Installed. Server 2003 STD SP1 with IE7. Going to download Win 2K3 SP2 Beta to see if this does anything.... Will post results

After much fiddling around with IE7 Add-ons, I have found that in my case, the ¡°DriveLetterAccess¡± Add-on (filename: tfswshx.dll) installed by Sonic MyDVD Studio Deluxe Suite seems to be the cause of the constant crashing. Since disabling it in the Manage Add-ons dialogue box, I have not had any more crashes.

Hope this helps someone else.

I too uninstalled and then reinstalled the toolbar and hey presto. Interestingly enough, if it is actually interesting - when I uninstalled the toolbar it's icon in add/remove programs was the IE7 logo, when I reinstalled it was the google eyes logo - told you it wasn't interesting!

I've had IE7 for a while now with no problem until yesterday. I viewed the advanced system information error log and discovered a similar error:

Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 7.0.5730.11, faulting module awt.dll, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x0009e7b0.

Found it was the google toolbar that was causing the problem as some have experienced here. Thanks so much for the fix, it saved me a ton of time and hassles! I'm going to keep it uninstalled as it just takes up space on the toolbar and I never use it.

Uninstalling Google toolbar totally did the trick for me, with regards to the ntdll.dll error I was getting. Many thanks!!!

My IE7 would crash and freeze and only on this machine. I just disabled it and IE7 runs FASTER, and I am hoping no crashes.

My crashes were horrible, requiring me to completely shut off my machine.

Similar issues

IE7 crashes and reports a problem with "SysFader".

I happily switch off that extension - if I knew which extension it was !

If I recall correctly, SysFader.exe is part of the NVidia graphics drivers. Do you have an NVidia chipset (onboard graphics) or add-on GPU

If so, you may need to uninstall/reinstall the drivers for it.

Does running IE with -extoff fix the problem If so, it may be one of your other extensions. It doesn't have to be google.
