    - IE7 Freezes I installed IE7 when it was new, and I've kept up with all the patches through Microsoft Update. I have XP home edition with a souped up NVidia graphics card, and my desktop system is over 2 years old so it's not the very latest. IE 7 freezes quite often when I'm on a web site. It happens on a lot of web sites, such as www.NFL.com and the flash based courses at epgy.stanford.edu. But it even happens on plain text web sites like www.zoltan.org . It doesn't seem to be related to a specific reproducible action or a common feature of the web sites. It just seems to freeze and become unresponsive. I have to terminate IE7 and it works OK when I restart it -- at least for a while. I have laptops with IE7 and they don't have the same problem.     - window.close in javascript I'm writing an extension using ATL/COM. When clicking on the button, a new browser window with a form pops up, and when the form is submitted, the server returns a page to close the window using javascript window.close method. The pop up window is created through CoCreateInstance function, and thus when window.close is called from script, the browser prompts the user whether let the script close window or not. Yes we can set window.opener to null in ie6, but this no longer works in ie7. I tried to process the WindowClosing event, but it seems only be fired when the window being closed by script is created by script. I looked at del.icio.us's script in the pop up window, and found that they're just using one line: window.close(). What should I do to achieve the same effect as del.icio.us Any help is appreciated.     - Wrap selection or IHTMLTxtRange in Font or Span tags of a given class I am trying to wrap the users selection (or a IHTMLTxtRange) with font or span tags that have a given class. The best that I can do now is: pRangeToRender.execCommand("BackColor", false, SOMECOLOR) I then use IHTMLElementCollection allEls = doc.getElementsByTagName("FONT"); and check each tag if it's SOMECOLOR. If it is, I clear the color and set the font tag's class. This is quite slow on large selection. The pending problem is that JS method is fired when refreshed or URL changed. I handled this inside my PHP code with the HTTP_REFERER. 'hope that help...     - Type Mismatch JS error when adding Object attribute I am trying to build an Object element that holds a Flash movie by directly adding an element node to the DOM. For the most part it is working correctly, as the following code will create and display the Flash movie: ads_flashElement=document.createElement("object"); ads_flashElement.setAttribute("width", "600"); ads_flashElement.setAttribute("height", "250"); ads_flashElement.setAttribute("classid", "clsid 27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000"); ads_flashElement.setAttribute("codebase", "http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0"); ads_flashElement.setAttribute("movie", "mpuClipExpand.swf"); However when I add the "quality" attribute and try to set it to "high" I get a "Type Mismatch" JavaScript error in the browser. Why am I getting an error only on this attribute I realize that these attributes are usually included as PARAM tags within the OBJECT tag, but when trying to add PARAM tags as child nodes of the object I could not get the Flash Movie to display. I found I could add the movie filepath value as a direct attribute of the Object element.     - Interacting w/tabs in IE7 FYI, if anyone is interested, I ended up using the following approach to solving my problem. As a reminder, my problem was basically to 每 from my C# Forms application 每 open url＊s in the current tab of an existing IE7 window (launching a url with process.start creates a new tab), and also enumerate all the open URL＊s to avoid opening things that were already open. More generally I wanted to do useful stuff with IE from an external application. 1) This is especially difficult in C#, so I created a managed C++ DLL to do the actual work and I talk to it from C#. 2) I use EnumWindows to find all windows of the class IEFrame. Those are just HWND＊s and cannot be cast to IWebBrowser objects; you＊ll see the point of getting HWND＊s at all in a bit. 3) I use the IShellWindows interface 每 obtained using CoCreateInstance(CLSID_ShellWindows) 每 to enumerate all shell windows on the system. I then cast each one to an IWebBrowser2. This actually works for both IE windows and explorer windows, so I need to get rid of the explorer windows. So I call IWebBrowser2->get_hwnd() on each window. For IE tabs, this doesn＊t give you the HWND for the tab, it gives you the HWND for the top-level IE window. So I check the get_hwnd() value against my IEFrame HWND list from step (1), and anything that doesn＊t match isn＊t an IE tab. 4) Now I have IWebBrowser2 objects for each tab, and if I care, I know which IE windows they belong to. If I want to enumerate open URL＊s, this is enough; I can call get_LocationURL() to get the URL from each tab. 5) If I want to open a link in the active tab, I can＊t just call IWebBrowser2->navigate() or IWebBrowser2->navigate2(), because this opens a new tab. And in fact I can＊t even ask which tab is active through this interface. So I cast each one to an IServiceProvider, then to an IOleWindow, on which I call GetWindow, which gives me the HWND for each tab. Then I can call ::IsWindowEnabled(hwnd); the active tab is always enabled and the background tabs are not. Now I know which of my IWebBrowser2＊s is the active tab. 6) I get an IHTMLDocument2 from that IWebBrowser2 (via get_document()) and call set_url() on the document, which opens a specified document in that tab (note that using IWebBrowser2->navigate() still opens a new tab, so I use the IHTMLDocument2 approach instead...) Still want to use the IE Developer Toolbar and don't want to use the Firefox/Firebug combo Than I might have a solution for you, at least it worked for me! Rather than posting this message to various (unanswered) threads complaining about the latest IE Developer Toolbar showing a pop-up debugger window, I'd rather start a new thread. Problem in short: when you enable the toolbar IE generates an error almost on every page load making IE practically useless. You'll get messages like "Object doesn't support this property or method" followed by an error code. If you start up a debugger you will find a javascript line accessing the SetQuirksMode method in the ParseDoc function. On my system a screen pops up titled "Visual Studio Just-In-Time Debugger" giving me a choice which debugger to start. In my case I have a choice of 2: (1) New Instance of Microsoft Script Editor and (2) New Instance of Visual Studio 2005 My solution is really simple: just disable JIT debugging for these instances. That's it! How to disable it In case (1): Start the Microsoft Script Editor (part of Office 2003) (MSE7.exe) Select Tools/Options/Debugging Click on button 'JIT Settings...' and Uncheck 'Enable JIT debugging' In case (2): Start Visual Studio Select Tools/Options/Debugging/Just-In-Time Uncheck Just-In-Time Debugging Maybe you have different/more choices; just follow the same principle! In the IE options, security settings, under 'miscellaneous', there is an option "Allow script-initiated windows without size or position constraints". If disabled, your pop-ups are constrained. If you put your site in the trusted or intranet zone, things should work as expected. As from yesterday 14th Feb 07 - I started with a "CiceroUIWndFrame" problem in IE7, did the necessary to solve that and immediatly got the "AutoSuggest Drop-Down" problem.     - IE 6/7 Cache-Control: no cache issues Related to Document download In order to prevent cahing on the client side, I send the following Http Headers: Cache-Control: no-cache Expires: -1 (As per documentation I read on MSDN). I have a Content-Disposition header set to "inline". When I stream back a document (PDF, Word, Excel etc.) IE 6 and 7 are not able to handle the response. IE 7.0 reports, "Navigation to the webpage was canceled". FireFox and Mozilla handle these documents just fine (with the same http headers). When IE 7.0 shows the "Navigation to the webpage was canceled" page it also shows a "Refresh the Page" link. When I click on this link I do see the document. If I remove the no-cache header or replace it with "private" or any other acceptable value IE 7.0 displays the document just fine. However, the browser will likely cache the documents in these cases. Changing the Content-Disposition header from "inline" to "attachment" doesn't change the end result (that is no document is seen or a document can NOT be saved) Looking at the Response being sent (using Fiddler) I can see that the document is being sent in the Http Content and looking at the task manager I can see Acrobat is being started. But no document. If the response sends back an xml document or image (with the two headers mentioned at the start of this post) IE 6/7 show the xml document or image as the case may be. Shiv.     - MSDN Responsibility Doesn't anyone in the Passport group take some ownership for solving the Fatal Login Error. hr = 80041035, f = -2147217355 issue MSN really ruined my use of OE with their latest change to HTTP only. Finally got two systems back up and running (in good manner according tho them - in totally compromised manner according to me!). I am now on my wife's laptop and I keep getting the above message. I refuse to use OE on this system as me emails now download to what ever system connects with OE - it no longer holds my messages on the server until I pull it down to my desktop. I certainly don't need to have to police my emails over three systems, my laptop and desktop coordination is enough of a pain now that they have IMPROVED their email system. Hotmail on my wife's now gives my the above error. Total bodily waste product in my opinion. If MSN wants to change the way we do things, the very least they could do in to take responibility to correct errors associated with their control.     - Downloaded .chm doesn't show [solved] My site posts an HTML Help (.chm) file for our app. For most users it works fine, but I've had a couple of reports that when they open the downloaded file, all the topics are empty! This happens persistently for these particular users, even if they try downloading again. When these same users download and install our app's Setup program, which installs the exact same .chm file, the Setup-installed .chm file works correctly. I don't have a repro case (nor any files submitted with the reports) to compare the downloaded files against each other.     - showModalDialog - displays white space at the bottom of the dialog I have dialog pages that are displayed with a grey background. They displayed fine in IE6 but in IE7 they show with a white space at the bottom that's approx. 20-22px high. Our app is used in a trusted zone in IE and we don't display the status bar at the bottom of the dialog and the IE7 dialog address bar is not displayed at the top. How would I get this to display correctly in both IE6 and IE7 I realize that I can probably get rid of the white space at the bottom by just stretching the background down farther but that will add blank space at the bottom of the window and make it look bad.     - IE7 Crashed When it closed with two or more tabs . My program is an activex plugin, it Changed IE DefWindowsProc to MyNewIEProc when it was initialized . In the MyNewIEProc I don't process IE message except (uMsg == WM_COMMAND && wParam == 0xA220 ). When it was unload, I reset IE WindowProc to its default . It works fine in IE6 and IE7 with single tab, but crashed when IE7 with two or more tabs. I find the bug with WinDBG, the bug report show that after my activex plugin was unloaded, IE7 recalled MyNewIEProc, it caused crash. Why IE7 do that thanks ! I have installed Internet Explorer Developer Toolbar and I find the icon in the IE7.0's toolbar ,but when i click the icon,the Internet Explorer Developer Toolbar didn't open.I have installed Httpwatch,Fiddler and Nikhil's Web Development Helper, is it confict with them

Hi,

There is a limit to the number of toolbars or explorer bars you can install.. 16 of each I think. If the toolbar/explorer bar has been installed and is available to the browser then it should appear in either the View>Toolbars or the View>Explorer Bars menu.

It may have been installed as a disabled Addon (I think this was standard for some installs during the IE7 development). Check your Tools>Manage Addons menu to see if it has been disabled by default, re-enable the toolbar.

IMHO, IEWatch is probably the only debugging tool you will need. 5*.

I have found the reason.Because in the IE advance setting it don't allow the third party IE extension. if you check the option, it's ok.
