    - QuickTime plug in problem I have had video on web pages, using the usual object/embed tags to play QuickTime video and they were working just fine. Suddenly (I believe after switching to IE 7), I'm getting plug-in errors. When I run the page from my c: drive, I'm asked to allow blocked content and then it plays fine. But when I point my browser to the website, I don't get a prompt and I get an error message. Can anyone explain why this might be and how to correct it Many thanks.     - Can't get Explorer Bar to work in C# Hi, I have been unable to figure this out. I found a few online articles about writing Explorer bars and bands, but for some reason I can only ever get the band object to display. I don't even see a listing under View->Explorer Bars to enable it, only under Toolbars. I did check the registry entries, they look good. My code is essentially the same as posted at this article: http://www.codeproject.com/csharp/dotnetbandobjects.asp On that page it shows a screenshot with the control displayed twice on the screen. Once as a band, and then as a Horizontal Explorer Bar. I have never been able to see my system load an Explorer Bar written in C#. That's what I really want to do. I'm running VS 2005, so I manually put in the changes required for that. I'm running IE 7, it's possible it may work as an Explorer Bar in an older version, I don't know.     - How to replicate the default download process of Internet Explorer? Hey there, I would like to know how I can call the default download function of IExplorer. I implemented a custom download manager using the IDownloadManager interface because I needed to get some specific information about the file being downloaded. However, I don't want to override the whole download process. I just needed to intercept it, get the necessary information and let it carry on with the default process. Currently IExplorer is calling my IDownloadManager::Download() function everytime use clicks Save in IExplorer.     - IE7 Bug w/CSS Rounded Corners Hello Here's a quick sample page illustrating the problem: http://jeffbowman.com/boxtest/ The latest versions of Firefox, Netscape and Opera all display both boxes just fine, but you can see what's happening in IE7. When I enclose the box in a form, it goes south. Any ideas how I can hack the CSS to get it to work in IE FWIW, I chose this particular rounded corners technique because it's straightforward and compact--I suppose can change, but I'd rather fix this one if I can.     - .NET 2.0: WebBrowser, Asynchronous pluggable protocols and DisconnectedContext MDA Hi. I'v initially posted this into .NET Development / CLR, but here it seems to be more suitable, so I would like to repeat my question. Well, I have implemented a couple of asynchronous pluggable protocols (in C#) for IE. They are registered as temporary namespace handlers and used with WebBrowser controls in my WinForms project. All works fine until WebBrowser.ShowPrintPreviewDialog() is called. Then, during next garbage collection (started by GC itself or invoked by GC.Collect()), the DisconnectedContext MDA is activated while debugging or, if application runs separately from debugger, there SEHExceptions or something like are thrown. Sometimes in this case an application can simply hang (stop responding on keyboard and mouse input) without any exceptions. So what is the workaround for that The entry point method of an application is marked with STAThread attribute (otherwise WebBrowser control cannot be instantiated), and creation and usage of my objects that implement pluggable protocols proceed in the same thread, of course, the main (GUI) thread. But I'v noticed that Print Preview Dialog shown by ShowPrintPreviewDialog() uses its own thread and operates with my pluggable protocol handlers in that thread.     - IE Forms / Caret Position Bug?? I'm using IE 7, and working with an ASP.NET page. If I click on a form field (textbox or textarea on this page) at the same time that one of my regular expression validators fires (making the page move down a bit), my text caret appears in a non-editable, standard HTML section of the page. I can then type away, or use backspace to remove static HTML that was there. If I press the enter key, the text caret moves to the field I initially tried to click on.     - How to delete Temporary Internet Files Hi, My application has a provision to change the dimensions of an image. When dimensions of an image are changed, the original image is getting effected, but the image is getting loaded from the "temporary internet files" folder when trying to view it and so, the image is viewed with old dimensions. Deleting temporary files will solave my problem. So, tried a sample code to access internet temp folder. But to my surprise only one file is seen in strFiles array (desktop.ini), no other files are retrieved.     - website error msg Dear gurus, There's one website that, when I open it using my laptop at home, it loads up until the last item then hangs on there. After a few seconds, it shows the error box with 'Send the report' and 'Do not send' options.     - Managed C++ Windows Form not showing up in IE Hi, I am trying to get a managed C++ Windows Form to come up in IE. This works fine when I build a C# Windows Form Control Library (with the regular htm syntax ID=dll name.namespace.class etc) However when I try the same experiment with Managed C++ it does not show up in IE. i.e. If I create a DLL that is a managed C++ Windows Control Form Library and put it in the Virtual directory and then reference it in my web page it does not show up. The exact same thing works with C#. I thought maybe it's because the IE would need the CRT. I made sure the client machine has the CRT and its path variable is set accordingly. But that does not work either. Finally, I wanted to get your opinion on whether this is a wise thing to try. There are not many artciles about managed C++ windows forms in IE (actually none that I could find). Ideally I would like to put the CRT dll's in my virtual directory and then expect them to be deployed together with the winform dll. But is this really possible Someone mentioned this might not be possible as the manifest that contains the location for the CRT is not downloaded. Anyway to summarize: 1. Is it possible to get a managed C++ WinForm to show up in IE If so any ideas on any potential gottchas All I have is a basic button in my win form, and that is not working... 2.     - ActiveX Modal Dialogs do work in IE7 Our product is suffering some pretty severe problems because of IE7. We've starting getting calls that dialog windows become hidden. We've heard this is a threading issue. We found out that the problem is actually much worse. Modal dialogs don't seem to function correctly in IE7. You can recreate the problem using VB6 by doing this: 1. Create an ActiveX UserControl project. 2. Add a form to the project (form1) 2. Put a button on the user control (usercontrol1). 3. Add this code to usercontrol1. Private Sub Command1_Click() Dim objForm As Form1 Set objForm = New Form1 Call objForm.Show(vbModal) End Sub 4. Build the project as an OCX somewhere on your hard drive. 5. Find your control's CLSID in regedit. It is the default value in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Project1.UserControl1\Clsid 6. Create an HTML file with this code. Replace the CLSID GUID with the one identified in step 5. <HTML> <BODY> <OBJECT classid="CLSID:{ 95ED95BA-9ECB-4D15-91AE-A7809742B65A }"></OBJECT> </BODY> </HTML> 7. You can open the HTML file normally or host it in IIS if you want to get around some default security bubbles. 8. Press the button! Press it again and again!     - Typing issue IE7 with Toolbars Hello I have a laptop and a desktop in which both have IE7 on them. IE7 on my laptop is free of any toolbars. I have norton installed on my desktop along with the toolbar it decided to install(guess i didnt do the uncheck option). On my desktop when Im on my site I have to bang on the keys numerous times to type data into the forms. Other users experience this to. These other users also have IE7 toolbars installed. Is there any documentation as what code we can add in to eliminate this user annoyance I am the founder and designer of the site in which I hired a programmer to do the back end.     - Internet Explorer/websites/this is disturbing... I don't know if this is the right forum...if not, and someone could refer me somewhere else, I'd appreciate it. I was on a website that was supposed to have a message board about the retro music videos that are posted on the site (the links to which all seem to be broken in the first place, so I didn't even stream any of the videos). I hadn't been to this site for months (though I guess there was one video link I had tried earlier in the day), and had never posted to the message board before or had any public profile of any sort. In fact, I don't have public profiles posted anywhere. Anyway, the link to the message board either wasn't what it claimed to be, or it had been highjacked...in any case, the link brought up XXX content. Much to my alarm, the page said something to the effect of "Find friends in your area", and specified the city where I live. I find this supremely disturbing, because I know I'd never supplied any profile information to this site...or any site for that matter, it's just not something that I ever do--because, I thought I was protecting myself from anyone that I didn't want having information about me getting it. Apparently they can anyway. I do occasionally make purchases online, that's the only time I can think of that I ever supply my address. But it's by and large only companies like Ebay and Amazon, or textbook dealers...and I never put information into a site that doesn't bring up the secure server icon in internet explorer. I ran every spyware and virus scan I have after the incident, and cleared everything in my history/TIFs/cookies, but I don't know if that addresses the problem, since I'm not sure what the problem is. I'm just really freaked out by this. How the hell did this website get information on where I live And more importantly, is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening in the future Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.     - window.showModalDialog() controls are misplaced with IE 7 I've developed a number of modal dialogs with IE 6. The controls in them are positioned with style="position:absolute". Their placement is fine with IE 6 but with IE 7 the controls are positioned so far to the left that they are off the screen. I have an asp Panel control positioned at left:0px and all I can see of it is a piece of the right scroll bar against the left border of the modal dialog. If I position it at left:200px, I can begin to see all of it. When this is run under IE 6 the table is positioned properly. I've reread the documentation on window.showModalDialog() and I can't find anything that describes this behavior. It makes no difference if the dialog is centered or not. Is this a bug in IE 7 or is there something I'm not doing properly. Everything seems to work fine with window.open(). -Dan.     - Please help !!! - Javascript OnChange events are not fired Hi All, have one strange problem. Scenario: 1) Server with MS CRM 3.0 and some custom client-side scripts applied to CRM elements (OnChange, OnLoad handl;ers etc.) 2) PC A with IE7 installed 3) PC B with IE6 installed 4) PC C with IE7 installed Problem is, that some (not all!) JavaScript events are just not fired on PC A and PC B. At the same time, same code form same server are running perfectly well on PC C! OnLoad events are working everywhere. OnChange - almost never on PC A and PC B. I tried to make every change I could think of in IE security settings - it didn't help. During making chaotic changes to IE settings on PC A I managed to make events fire normally - but when I closed IE window and re-opened it - every problem returned back. Event handler code is written on javascript and it does not matter whats inside - even alert("test"); is not working. Does anybody have any idea, what can prevent IE6-7 to stop firing OnChange events I completely lost.. Best regards, Alexander G.     - IE 7 Uninstall/Install Issues This is not the common inability to uninstall IE 7. I have read through many of the problems other peoples have been having trying to uninstall certain versions of IE 7 to get the newest version. This is not what I am trying to do. What first started the issue was that I had installed IE 7. (Bad choice to begin with. I am a firm supporter of Mozilla FireFox.) After installing IE 7, I attempted to use the program for a website that is IE specific. However, after double clicking the IE 7 desktop icon that had been created, IE 7 had created an immediate error and had to be closed. I couldn't tell what error had been created but I know its on a different line and with a different code every time when I read the "details" of the error and subsequent shutdown. Now, I've figured to just uninstall IE 7 and revert back to IE 6. BUT, after several attempts at uninstalling, I get the following error: Setup cannot copy the file: ieakmmc.chm So I click "Cancel" and I get the following message: Do you want to continue setup without copying this file I click "Yes" and get the following message: If you cancel copying this file Windows might not work correctly. Are you sure you want to cancel this file And once again I click "Yes". What is now being referred to as "Set Up" instead of "Uninstall" continues on, but immediately after that I get another error of the same message, stating that the file "ieeula.chm" cannot be copied. So I go through the same process as I did with the "ieakmmc.chm" file and after finishing this, I get another file that can't be copied. The rest of the files that could not be copied were: iesupp.chm iexplore.chm inetres.adm html.iec After going through those files in the same fashion as I did with the original "ieakmmc.chm" file, I get a new error stating: The file 'mshtml.dll.000' on Windows NT Service Pack uninstall Directory is needed. I treat this error the same way as "ieakmmc.chm" and IE 7's uninstall creates one last error stating that the uninstall cannot be completed. I also tried clicking "Retry" but in doing so, I cannot go past the first file "ieakmmc.chm". I figure to download and install the newest IE 7, because after all that I've read, that will uninstall the previous version and everything will be fine. Well, after downloading and doubling click the installer, I get through almost the entire unpacking process of the installer and get the following error: "update\iesetup.exe is not a valid Win32 application." This error tells me about as much as "I am mad at you, and you should know why, therefore I won't tell you why." So in all of my frustration to still download IE 7, or attempt to revert BACK to IE 6, I have come thus far and am now stuck at what I should do now. PLEASE, I apologize for the long windedness, but I need some help with this. Here is what I'm trying to achieve. I have an setup.exe installer, that I'd like to get executed through IE. How can I do that someone hinted me to use activex control that calls the setup.exe but I have no idea how to do this, since I've never used activex before. Any ideas
