Embedded video crashes IE 7

Since about mid January everytime i browse to a page that contains embedded video IE 7 crashes. This also affects watching Adobe flash files and other forms of video. all i get in the event logs is:

The first example was watching NBA TV Broadband and the second was browsing to a page with embedded flash.

This is extremely frustrating so any ideas or fixes would make me a happy man.

This probably isn't the best place to look for a solution your particular problem, as it supports web development issues, rather than IE usage issues.

According to the IE Support page, you can call 1-866-234-6020 (toll free) between the hours of 5:00 am and 9:00 pm (PST) during the week. On weekends, the line's open between 6:00 am and 3:00 pm.

If you prefer an online approach, try posting to the microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general newsgroup.

If I were to guess (which is the best I personally can do since I'm never run into this problem myself), I would suggest:

Clearing your temporary internet files (using Disk Cleanup)
Making sure your video and audio drivers are up to date (using Windows Update)
Your hard drives have been checked for errors (using the Check Now button on the Tools tab of each drive's property sheet)
Your system has been recently checked for malware (using something like Windows Defender)

Mind you, this is only a guess based on my personal experiences. Your mileage may vary.

(Which is why pointed you to the folks that handle issues like this all the time.)

Your post got my attention. I have precisely the same problem, and it started at precisely the same time. It is more than a minor annoyance. I will often open hyperlinks in new tabs, so that a browsing session may result in a half dozen tabs open at the same time. This problem with Adobe flash player crashes IE7, taking down all tabs at once. I deliberately avoid known sites with flash content, but often ads are flash based and cannot be avoided. Some of the things I tried were:

Delete temporary internet files

Wipe flash from my hard drive using Adobe's uninstaller and:

running an older version of flash (the popup warnings were just as annoying as the crashes!)

installing the newest version from Adobe's website

doing a thorough scan for malware, viruses, etc.

assuring that all drivers were current versions

disabling the flash player plug-in (results in a very unpleasant browsing experience - flash is everywhere)

If anyone knows of a solution, I would also be a very happy man to find how to get rid of this problem.

Looks like I'm not the only one with this issue. Yeah, I also have the same problem.

The problem must be in:

1) flash9b.ocx

or

2) IE 7.0

or

3) Video card drivers.

I have an ATI Radeon X1650 Pro with the latest 7.2 catalyst drivers.

Will be testing with Firefox to see if the problem goes away.

I just got an automatic update for Adobe, I hope that clears my faulting module flash9b.ocx error.
