    - Internet Explorer Toolbar button. I am trying to add a button to the internet explorer toolbar. It shows up on the toolbar but nothing happens when I click the button. The button is pressed. I ve been trying to get this working for weeks. I have added all the values to the registry ButtonText, CLSID, ClsidExtension, Default Visible, HotIcon, Icon, MenuText which shows up in regedit. I have registered the com object and it shows up in regedit.     - What's up with "????????????" ? Have you manually added any add-ons to IE One way to find out if it is an add-on is to go to Tools > Manage Add-Ons and disable them all. Now check a page. If it is fine, go back to the add-ons list and start enabling them one by one, each time checking the page. When the character blocks appear you'll know which add-on is causing the issue. You can then download fresh copy of it. If you download a fresh copy and the error persists, post back what add-on you think it might be, if any.     - Why does not top+bottom+left+right set the size of an element? The CSS 2 Visual formatting model ( http://www.w3.org/TR/CSS2/visuren.html#choose-position ) states the following about position:absolute: The box's position ( and possibly size ) is specified with the 'top', 'right', 'bottom', and 'left' properties. However, neither IE6 nor IE7 seem to obey that. When setting all four properties, it's only considering the top and left properties, ignoring the others. Usually, this can be worked around by specifying the width and height instead, but I need to make a <textarea> that completely occupies it's containg <div>, except an area of 40px at the top.     - Three problems with IE 7 - rollovers, cut-off text and cut-off images I have been designing and developing websites since 1995 and decided i should update myself by using the Zen Garden techniques, thereby dumping table layouts in preference of using only CSS stylesheets with maybe a touch of JavaScript where essential. I have just produced a new site using this method with a tabbed top menu. It works in IE6, Netscape 7.2, Mozilla, Firefox 1.0 and Opera 7.0, however, the client uses IE7 and apparently there are no rollover tabs visible. I can't vouch for this as i don't have IE7 because i don't believe it is functional as a business tool/browser, although i am given to understand it has many advantages for the home user as a media tool. The tabs in question are background images swapped on rollover via the stylesheet in the a:link/a:hover styles etc., they are not images embedded in the HTML page, neither are they controlled by JavaScript. My !DOCTYPE is strict, as recommended on the IE7 forums, and i also noticed on one forum that DIV end and beginning tags should have no spaces between them... not sure about this statement, but i have implemented it anyway... much to the detriment of neatly indented code. If anyone can provide any clues, tips, tricks or just plain errors on my part, i would be truely grateful. The code is currently in my secure test area and requires a password and username to access, but if this text explaination doesn't ring any bells with any IE7 CSS developers, then i will put the site out in a public area for assessment on request. Hi Russell, The symptoms you describe (button does nothing, options are all disabled) sounds to me like the toolbar's browser helper object (BHO) is not getting created. Try going into Manage Add-ons and ensuring that the "IE Developer Toolbar BHO" add-on is set to enabled. Also, I believe that BHOs are automatically disabled by default when running Windows Server 2003 in the enhanced security configuration (ESC).     - Cutomizing the IE context menu Hi, Simerjeet and John, I've been working with this as well, and ran into the same problem you did. Using the registry is not a solution that does what we want, so we have tried using other methods. The one that has gotten us the farthest at this point is to subclass the browser window, interpose our own window procedure, capture WM_INITMENUPOPUP to get the hmenu, and insert our own menu items the Win32 way. Unfortunately, the endgame for this is still in doubt. IE does not generate a WM_COMMAND or WM_MENUCOMMAND message when a menu item is clicked, and we have been having difficulty with getting even WM_LBUTTONUP messages while the menu is displayed. I'm not familiar enough with Win32 programming to know if this is a dead end or if there's a chance that we can still pull this off, but I'll let you know if it turns out well. In the meantime, suggestions from others who have succeeded inserting menu items into the existing menu would be appreciated. EDIT: It is worth noting that the Yahoo toolbar's menu items seem resilient to other toolbars/add-ons overriding IDocHostUIHandler:: ShowContextMenu, while the Google toolbar's are not. Thus, it is clearly possible (via whatever method Yahoo uses) to do what it is we're trying to do. I have changed the security setting: "Allow active content to run in files on my computer".     - IE7 Forms Auto Complete Stopped Working I had the exact same problem with passwords and user-names refusing to be remembered by the IE7 supplied with Vista. The only solution I found was to creat a new Account and copy the account settings over from old to new. Something like this:- Firstly. create a new account under Control Panel, User Accounts - give it administrator rights. Log on in the new account. On the desktop, right-click My Computer , and then click Properties . Click Advanced System Settings in the left-hand pane Click User Profiles - Settings Select the OLD User and click Copy to In the Copy To dialog box, click Browse . Browse to the root location of the new user account that you created. (i.e. where all your documents, downloads etc would be located) Click OK . It took about 10mins to copy over my account and it did NOT copy my email account info' to Outlook 2007 When all was done it started to prompt me again in IE7 for passwords etc AND remembered them!     - IE7 and getElementsByName() What tag do the elements you're looking for have I'm a firefox user, and almos never user IE, but I had the same problem recently. After some searching, I found this site http://www.toolazy.me.uk/template.php content=getelementsbyname.xml which says IE is actually following the specification: (From the linked site) " Its supported by both Internet Explorer and Firefox since it is part of the DOM Level 1 specification. Unfortunately theres a problem. From the Html 4.01 Spec, only the A, APPLET, BUTTON, FORM, FRAME, IFRAME, IMG, INPUT, OBJECT, MAP, META, PARAM, TEXTAREA and SELECT are supported which means that you can't just name all your divs, spans or rows with the same name and use getElementsByName() to return an array of items."     - Animated Gifs I also got the same problem. After doing some research I found out the root cause of the problem (atleast for my case). But I don't have any solution on how to get rid of this issue. May be Microsoft can address this. The issue is when "IE 7.0 is sending request" or "when there is some serious stuff being done on the server side" IE 7 is not able to play animation in the gif image. It is showing the image but it is not playing any animation stuff. For example in my "jsp"(JavaServer Pages) I have an animated gif image that contains progress bar kind of thing that moves from right to left (repeats) continously when user selects an file (path) and clicks upload button. The animated gif works fine in IE 6.0 and FF 1.5 but not in IE 7.0. The progress bar stands still at a position in IE 7.0 when the form is getting "submitted" (or when "sending request"). But when I open the same image in IE 7.0 directly by giving the file path in the address bar it is working perfect with all animation. So I think there is some defect with IE 7.0 with animated gif images not being played when the form is getting submitted or request is being sent.     - [IEDevTB] High DPI I've just installed the release version of the IE Dev Toolbar. Using 'Select Element by Click' draws the element ident rectangle in the wrong place, not around the element itself. I guess it's because I'm running at 120dpi, this sort of thing happens all the time! IE seems to magnify (horribly) all my web text and graphics.     - IE 6 /7 closes without warning Hi and help.. I run Xp pro v 5.1 Sp2 on a dell 6400 laptop. I've started to get a problem with IE6 where it closes down without warning (which is very annoying!) I've run through McAfee updates and viruscheckers and removed anything vaguely suspicious and no change. I purchased REGcure and ran that as well removed varoius assorted 'problems' and still have the same problem. Finally i went for broke and downloaded IE7 in the hope that this would fix things. Nope. Still i get a no warning closedown of IE& after about 3-5 minutes of normal(browsing/email) use has anyone any ideas on this The only thing that has changed in the last couple of months was that i installed 'MS Groove' which has really just been sitting there doing nothing. hi, everytime i go to close internet explorer 7 a message comes up saying it needs to close as it has encountered a problem . this happens everytime i close ie. this has just started since i started using ie7 a week ago, im no techy and dont know how to fix this proble, please help!!!

I am getting the exact same error. It just started this week. I almost think it's Flash related but I haven't tried to confirm it. I hope someone repsponds to this with a fix! Thanks

Hi, any luck with the ie7 erors yet ive tried several different websites to find a solution but so far no luck, might just take pc to local computer shop see what they can do

I see this anytime I've played embedded media in the browser--which sometimes just means Flash ads on news sites. I expect it might be awhile before a patch comes floating out....

Could be a problem with an extension or control loaded in the browser. Try disabling the loaded extensions and see if you still observe this problem. If that fixes it, you can try turning the extensions on one at a time and figure out which one is causing the problem.

In IE7, click the 'tools' button, and select 'manage add-ons' from the menu, and 'enable or disable add-ons' from the submenu under that. This will pull up the add-ons dialog that will let you selectively disable some or all of your loaded IE add-ons.

.Hi thank you very much for your advice, it appears to be a problem with the orange toolbar, i went through the list of add ons and disabled the toolbar then restarted internet explorer and so far it seems to be working fine
